December was a very successful ending for 2006 with over half of the years points being done in that month alone. What a great marathon! India of course was the main reason for that turn out, Srila Prabhupada predicted that India would be a country where book distribution would be a great success, and so it has.

Thus, based on the dharma and sva-dharma teachings of Gita, Bhagavatam, and Cc, ISKCON gurus and brahmanas should engage everyone in sankirtana-yajna. They should engage householders who dovetail one percent or more, and brahmacaris and sannyasis who give one hundred percent.

This morning my wife, Kamalagopi devi dasi, had given 'Billie' some Maha Flowers offered to our beloved Sri Sri Radha Neelmadhava deities. She was smelling those flowers again and again and thanked us profusely and especially my wife. She put on those flowers on the dash-board of her car.

Prabhupada's eyes opened wide at the description of the fight. "Accha!" he said in surprise, shaking his head in wonder at the risks his men were taking on his and Krishna's behalf. Hamsaduta was laughing and shaking his head in awe and he read on.

Moral: We should always carry books with us. This way we can be an effective instrument of Lord Caitanya. If we are prepared for receiving mercy then only we will receive mercy. So please add books in your items of daily grooming.

Srila Prabhupada once said "What your 10 minute lecture will do? But if they read one line of these books - even they only touch the book - they will receive great benefit!"

Offer your time, your money or your assistance - to the men and women who are going out each day this month. Trust me - YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE - even if but for one soul only. And remember - once upon a time - in the not too distant past - that one soul - WAS YOU!

Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

Not only did Bronson become a devotee, but after reading “The Perfection of Yoga” he explained it to his mother and *she* became a devotee. In India it is not uncommon for a devotee to preach to his mother and bring her under the shelter of Lord Krsna, but in the West it is very rare.

I was recently inspired. It was the 2nd day of our GBC meetings this year. I was completely absorbed the whole day, which for me is not something very easy. I am not so inclined to meetings, but on this 2nd day of our GBC meetings, there was only one subject, and that was book distribution.

Now I have 170 names, and every year I go to visit at least 50 of them. Every year the month of January is dedicated to follow-up. After the Christmas marathon I relax for one week and then I start to prepare follow-up, making the phone calls to the busiest ones. Then I start to prepare all the sweets. My wife is helping me with that.

At first I was afraid of how people who knew me would react, but soon I saw that this was an advantage in book distribution. After a while the Lord gave me even more mercy and courage, and I started saying a new mantra to all the people who I didn't know: "Are you from this town?"

Real Sankirtana must be infused with selflessness, with the intense desire to share the rich virtues of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition. Without this mood of giving, it is only a shadow of Sankirtana. I therefore recommend that all devotees cultivate an inner mood of giving – giving what we have been fortunate enough to receive, but, more, to give what we never had.

“I see this taking off everywhere. It’s the future, because many temples now have fewer temple devotees but more congregational members. This encourages the masses to participate. Even those who can’t go out for book distribution directly can help by offering service or donating Laxmi for the cause.”
