Who can be a siksa-guru for ISKCON's members and what are that person's qualifications? What is the siksa-guru's relationship to the diksa-guru and to Srila Prabhupada? Can Vaisnavas outside ISKCON act as its members' siksa-gurus? If so, how? If not, why not?

I am writing in response to the article on Dandavats.com entitled “Nine Reasons to Change the Design of the TVP.” I will not answer the nine reasons point by point because Ambarisa Prabhu has already done that. Instead, I would like to give one reason that may ring a bell with devotees concerned about the topic. Please bear with me.

When we speak of steadiness we speak of a certain degree of purification of the heart which has its threefold symptoms, according to Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura: steadiness of mind, speech, and physical activities.

Thirty years ago I was doing the Prabhupada marathon at the Chicago airport. One afternoon, we devotees were so intoxicated by distributing books that we decided to show that one doesn't have to speak to sell books, that book distribution just depends on our state of consciousness. So we didn't speak.

You don't need to say, "Oh welll, I'm a Hare Krishna, I've offered it to Krishna, and therefore I'm free from the reaction." It is questionable if you're free from the reaction. Why? Srila Prabhupada has made it clear that our duty is cow protection.

Srila Prabhupada said that this very common type of exchange was there but the responsibility of this goraksya, is it the duty of just some people? Some very very exclusive people? Is it the responsibility of all vaisyas, or is it for all grhastas or all devotees?

Arrived safely in Kaz and went straight to the farm. Arrived 2am and was horrified by the sight of destroyed uses. I am living in Govinda Maharaja’s house and it feels like living on the edge of a ghosttown.

I often have to encourage devotees, especially those not living in the temples, to rise early in the morning and come to the temple for the morning program, or to have one at home. Devotees should generally rise by 4 am, which means that their lives must be organized in such a way that they get sufficient rest, meaning taking rest early.

This is the wonderful return of Krishna to Vrindavan that happens at this time of day. Learned Vaisnavas who try to think about the Lord meditate upon this pastime. In fact, Krishna’s pastimes as they happen throughout the twenty-four hours of the day are the subject of absorption of both practicing devotees as well as perfected devotees.

For almost five years I had seen and known Prabhupada visually from photos. His pictures were on the altar, vyasasana, books, magazines, framed on temple walls, in fact everywhere. But I had never seen Prabhupada in person. My first impression was that here was that same photo, but now it was moving.
