Sep 23 2006 Caring For Devotees: The Spiritual Counselor System

Hare KrishnaBy Radhanath Swami

A devotee has given his whole life to serve this mission, and then he becomes very sick. He needs help. He lays sick on the floor “I can't do my service.” And we say, “You are in maya. You are not the body.” “Thank you. Philosophically it's true: I am not this body and I am in maya, but I need your help to get out of maya and transcend this body. I need the love, support and care of a Vaisnava to take me through this.”

Hare KrishnaBy Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja

I am not qualified, but when my Guru Maharaja gives me a task I should make myself qualified, otherwise I will lose what I have. Krishna is like a brightly burning effulgent sun. If you do not deserve, if you don't qualify yourself, how can you remain before this blazing sun? You'll be burned to ashes. First, qualify yourself.

Sep 21 2006 “We Are Always With You”

Hare KrishnaBy Giriraj Swami

Our relationship with our spiritual master, our relationship with Krsna–these are eternal. We might be in brahmacari-asrama for some time, we might be in grhastha-asrama for some time, and then we may enter vanaprastha-asrama, and in the case of some, sannyasa-asrama. Those are external, and those are part of the gradual process of purification.

Sep 21 2006 “Give More Than You Take”

Hare KrishnaBy Indradyumna Swami

Our spiritual master said that in this material world a boy naturally desires a girl and a girl naturally desires a boy, and they come together in holy matrimony to make it sacred, and they advance in material prosperity and spiritual prosperity together. I think that is a nice definition of love: “to be concerned about the needs of your beloved.”

Hare KrishnaBy Hector Diego

Did you know that Harrison's Something was actually written about Lord Krishna? George changed he to she in that song so that people would not misunderstand what he was trying to say. Unfortunately I believe it is just taken as a beautiful piece of music. And Here Comes the Sun was George's way of singing about how his meditation on Krishna had cleared up some very dark periods in his life.

Sep 20 2006 Yogesvara prabhu’s recent interview on the Dr Rus Show

In one letter that came to Tamal Krishna Maharaj in Bury Place in 1970, there was an admonition. Tamal had asked, "What is more important, sankirtan, rounds, devotional service, or our health?" Prabhupada answered, "The highest principle is to save yourself"

But also those who don’t get married and those who have already surpassed this phase of life will greatly benefit by knowing the basic dynamics, the rapport of weights and measures, the values of family life in the Vedic-Vaisnava civilization.

There were several prasadam tables that were busy all day and all the guests were very happy to be in such a pleasing atmosphere .

Apart from spiritual training through the morning program, scriptural study and senior guidance, there seems to be a need for learning skills such as inspiring and energizing devotees, respect for devotees from diverse backgrounds, and adapting to rapid change.

Sep 14 2006 Friendly Fire

Hare KrishnaFrom the Mediator's Sanga Conference

The only real possession for a devotee is whatever sincerity they can muster up in Srila Prabhupada's service. And even though the person criticizing may not be questioning the other's sincerity, it is often taken that way. The result: We feel discouraged, we sometime lash back at the critic, and often we think: "I'm doing all this hard work, and all I'm getting is questioned and criticized. Is it worth it? Is serving in ISKCON worth it?"
