Although it was not in his written will, Jayapataka Swami had verbally made Bhakti Purusottama Swami the executor of his living will. Thus, in the case that Jayapataka Swami should enter a state of unconsciousness, Bhakti Purusottama Swami will make decisions related to his health.

Devotees from around the world are writing to Jayapataka Maharaja offering him solace and encouragement during his health crisis. We have found that many of these letters contain sweet remembrances and moving expressions of vaisnava sentiments. With a special intent of helping his disciples through this very difficult time, we are posting some of those letters here.

Today I went to see him in the morning. Kavichandra Maharaja, Bhaktisiddhanta Maharaja, Brajahari Prabhu and I walked to his bed in the Critical Intensive Care area. He opened his eyes when I held his hand and spoke to him. As I anticipated, his condition seemed to be much better than yesterday. I told him who all were present there. He acknowledged everyone. He was visibly excited to see us all.

There are different conceptions of outreach, and we may not agree with another view. I am giving one perspective here, and contrasting with what I don’t feel is effective outreach.

By now most of you must have heard about the positive health developments of HH Jayapataka Swami. Maharaja has become more conscious, is moving his limbs, and attempting to talk.

The spiritual path can be a rewarding yet difficult one. There comes a time when all of us need a shoulder to lean on, a friendly push in the right direction, or a few strong words of encouragement.

The devotees who are with HH Jayapataka Swami, including doctors from BHAKTIVEDANTA HOSPITAL, notice that he is hearing very nicely. Sometimes he opens his eyes for a while. This morning for 20 minutes.

Maharaja's rate of improvement is very slow. His blood pressure, blood sugar, platelets, etc. are stable. We have consulted other neurologists and surgeons in India, from Delhi, Bhubanesvara, Tirupati, Mumbai, Bangalore, etc. Everyone is of the same opinion: the situation is very critical.

Bhakti cures this devastating illness of the conscience, but we must seriously engage ourselves without ego-centred plans to reach the highest purpose, Love for God and for all living beings.

We never cease to be amazed or shocked. Thinking that nothing really surprises us anymore, the shock-value of what could happen to us, intrudes impolitely into our sense of peace and harmony, when fellow devotees are struck by sudden death, accidents, illness and coma.

In this lifetime, I only got to see Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada one time. For an instant. Sometimes I feel as my entire life thereafter evolved or unfolded from that moment, like a tiny seed germinating before sprouting forth from the spiritually fertile Dust of His Lotus Feet.

Genuinely Krishna Conscious true leadership is the only real solution for the actual benefit of all the people. Same as it ever was. Institute alone (of any type) cannot be an automatic substitute for the real inner pursuit of the Absolute by the truly spiritually astute.
