Looking for evidence to convince my family that eating eggs is bad for health

Sri Krishna Charan Das: Haribol prabhujis, matajis.

I am an aspiring devotee following all the 4 regulative principals. However, my family does eat eggs. Based on what they read and hear on internet and media around them, they believe it is essential for healthy living. Based on some articles I could find on the internet, they have stopped/reduced eating egg yellow, but continue eating egg white. Is there any resource that you could point me to that will help convince them to give up eggs completely?

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Hare Krishna,
Sri Krishna Charan Das

There are things to consider. First, eggs have been touted as a good source of balanced protein. This was promoted in a book entitled Diet for a Small Planet, which demonstrates how harmful the cattle industry is to the planet. However, it fails to highlight the cruel conditions that chickens are kept in for producing eggs. When you investigate this, then you will not like to share in the karma involved in that abuse. That is one thing. Secondly, our vaishnava line has placed the eating of eggs in the lower modes of nature. The three gunas permeate everything in the world, including food and eating. Therefore, not being in the mode of goodness, one could cloud their intellect by this activity. Being a recommendation of Srila Prabhupad, one also comes closer to one’s Gurudeva if they follow his prescription for spiritual growth. Placing oneself more in the mode of goodness opens the heart to higher knowledge and joy.
Another thing to understand is the concept of sacrifice itself. Krishna states in the Bhagavad Gita, bhoktaram yajna tapasam…He is the enjoyer of all sacrifices. When one makes a sacrifice for Krishna, then it is pleasing to him. Whether it is simply the act of sacrificing something one personally likes (like eggs or sensual activity) for the satisfaction of Krishna, please know that Krishna is witnessing everything. This is how one becomes close to the Supreme Lord. It shows Him that you are serious about Him. Your choice, your free will, when exercised to please Krishna is bhakti, by definition. Pustakrishna Prabhu has given the perfect answer, eggs can not be offered to Krishna.Besides this,
The yolk of just one large egg contains 186 mg of cholesterol, a waxy, fatty compound that builds up as plaque on the walls of your arteries. The recommended maximum daily consumption of cholesterol for a healthy adult is only 300 mg, so that leaves little room in your diet for other cholesterol ,basically it puts on at higher risk for stokes and other heart problems. Well for the egg white , many chickens are given antibiotics that is not good for anyones health, plus Salmonella is a risk. Anyhow eggs are such a nasty thing, who in their right mind would eat this? It is bad karma, bad for health and nasty nasty nasty…Krsna
will not accept the socalled devotion of anyone that takes eggs

The menses of lady hen is the egg, and when she unites with a cock she produces a viable egg which she later hatches to produce the chick. So to those who feel that there is nothing more better and tastier to eat than the menstrual waste of a chick…what is there to be said?
Here are some scientific facts to further the case. The egg contains all the components needs to produce a chick and so is loaded with cholesterol. An egg a day will sure keep the doctor away because soon you will be dead with all the fat in your body. Not to forget avian virus and other such nice diseases to be gained from the egg which could terminate your life faster if you are lucky to eat such an infected egg. Oh by the way I am a vet and i am not sure if death is only due to virus or there are other harmful chemicals and disease causing organisms that may enter your body via the egg and produce the inevitable.
So stay away from the eggs and the chick will thank you and you will thank your lucky stars.

If Sri Krishna Charan Prabhu is an Indian or Indian origin devotee, then I can understand his problem. Lots of traditional vegetarian families in India have now accepted eggs as being vegetarian. Indeed, I have heard that one Chief Minister of a South Indian state has publicly stated that eggs are vegetarian. So there is lots of propaganda for eggs to be included into a vegetarian diet.

There are so many Western influences which creep into Indian culture with subtlety. One such example is a law that girls under 18 years of age are not allowed to marry. Their reason is that parents should be forced to give women a fair change in education and careers.

As a result of this, we see girls becoming sexually active at earlier ages and out of marriage as it is difficult to curtail sexual desire after puberty. If not checked, it will only be a matter of time before India becomes an over sexualized country just like the West.
