Yadavendra Das: Nirmala Devi Dasi was a senior member of the Brisbane Iskcon Hare Krishna Community both by age and service and an initiated disciple of HH Indradyumna Maharaja.
She used to come to the Brisbane Iskcon
temple with clock regularity during Deity greetings or Guru Puja and
perform her cleaning service in the Deity paraphernalia room for many,
many years. She was a pleasant person to associate with and she had a
good sense of humor. At times, she told me some confidential
information about her family members. If I am not mistaken, she kept a
cat too. She was a very excellent and reliable book customer of mine.
I find that all persons who buy Srila Prabhupada’s books are very
excellent personalities. She definitely was one of them. Those persons
who decide to buy and read Srila Prabhupada’s books have evidently
made the most judicious and vital decision one could ever make in
one’s life. Not only was she an avid reader of Srila Prabhupada’s
books, but she was in fact a book distributor as well. By Krishna’s
grace, I just found at the last minute, an invoice in her name dated
30 August 2009, when she purchased 20 copies of “Coming Back”. If
these were not for distribution, then what were these for?
Just a few days before Janmastami, I received an email from our
secretary HG Syamarani Devi Dasi, that she had suffered a stroke on
29th July 2012. A second email came with relatively good news, that
things were better and stable. Then a third piece of information came
that things had taken a turn for the worse. I am told that her
relatives exhorted her to leave on Janmastami day. She did just that.
All glories to her decision! Srila Prabhupada appeared on Nandotsava
and Srimati Nirmala Devi Dasi decided to depart on Janmastami, the
appearance day of Lord Krishna. Could she have made a better decision?
Not at all, under the circumstances, this is the best possible
decision she could ever have made. All glories to Nirmala Devi Dasi
and her fortitude! Srila Prabhupada mentions an old lady in Vrindavan,
who would daily fetch water for the Yamuna for Deity worship, year in
and year out. This steady service would take her back home, Back to
Godhead, Srila Prabhupada said. So we may conclude the same destiny
awaits Nirmala Devi Dasi and if my own words have any weight in this
affair at all, I may say that:” Nirmala Devi Dasi has got my full
blessings and thank you very much for being such a nice Bhaktivedanta
books customer.” All glories to Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acarya
of Iskcon and Institutor of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust!
