Madhavananda’s Holy Departure
By Ramacandra das and Madhavananda’s caregivers
Dear Vaisnavas and friends,
please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
We would like to add some details and humble realizations about the recent departure of our dear Madhavananda prabhu, after 4 long years fighting against Hodgkin lymphoma.
Last Sunday’s night at home he had a massive crisis and requested to be taken to the nearby hospital where his breathing functions started to getting worse. His affectionate mother Citrarupini mataji informed the vaisnava community and many devotees came from all over Italy to offer their love, support and prayers. The first day HH Sivaram Swami reached Madhavananda by phone and shared wonderful inspiring visions of the spiritual world with him.
We informed Madhavananda’s beloved Guru HH Radhanath Swami who immediately phoned us and spoke such merciful and encouraging words and even sang a sweet kirtan in his ear to help his consciousness to prepare for the final journey. In the next hours the bhajans and prayers intensified and on the morning of November 29 th, Madhavananda appeared very relaxed and peaceful.
Mother Citrarupini started to prepare the place by sticking on the wall of his room the Simhacalam Prahlad Nrishimha poster which was very dear to Madhavananda. She placed around his head sacred Pavitra from Mayapur Dham, the pictures of his dear Guru Maharaj and of Sri Sri Radha Ramana, the local temple deities, and sprinkled on him the holy dust from Vrindavana and Tulsi maha prasada leaves. She also anointed his forehead with Lord Nrishimha oil from Mayapur.
After some time Madhavananda’s breath began to slow down and the group of devotees around him increased their chanting and prayers and invited his pure soul to take shelter in the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada, Gaura Nitai and Radha Krishna. At this point in a very simple and natural way our dear Madhavananda left his body on the sound of Srila Prabhupada’s bhajans and the Mahamantra and the waves of love and gratitude of so many devotees and wellwishers took him to his eternal service to Guru Krishna and Vaisnavas. After washing his body with holy waters and decorating it with Tilak, we dressed him with vaisnavas clothes and took him to the temple for the darshan of Srila Prabhupada, Sri Sri Radha Ramana and Nitai Gauranga.
After some sweet bhajans we made him circumambulate the Deities 3 times, accompanied by a kirtan and flowers offering and then we took him to his home to offer more prayers and kirtan to thank him for his dedication and service in Srila Prabhupada’s mission and to express our feelings of deep separation from his sweet, unassuming wonderful personality. Since yesterday bhajans and visits from devotees and friends are going on constantly.
A memorial service is being held in the Sri Sri Radha Ramana temple at Villaggio Hare Krishna, this evening, December 1st 2012, from 5.00 pm up to 8.20 pm local time.
We would like to thank from the core of our hearts the devotees all around the world for their loving support and we humbly request to pray and bless Madhavananda’s soul so that he can achieve the supreme goal. In a Srimad Bhagavatam class in the early 1970s Srila Prabhupada describe: “For a devotee, death is just like sleeping. He closes his eyes and when he opens them, there is Krishna. It is so nice.”
We would like to express our deep gratitude and admiration to Madhavananda’s wonderful mother Citrarupini devi for her ultimate sacrifice during these long years of terrible anxiety and sufferings who has been one of the main causes of Madhavananda’s success. Please pray also for her in these painful days of separation from her dear son. All glories to Srila Prabhupada’ s wonderful movement.
