PATNA: The chant of “Harey Krishna, Harey Krishna, Harey Krishna Harey Harey….”mesmerized Patnaites who pulled the rath of Lord Jagannath at the Jagannath rath yatra organized by International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) here on Wednesday.

The 40-feet grand rath, where idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baldev and Subhadra were seated in, was rolled off from ISKCON temple and the yatra, while crossing through Dak Bungalow Road, Frazer Road, Gandhi Maidan, Exhibition Road reached Mahavir Temple at Patna Junction. From there, the procession again moved forward passing through GPO roundabout, Harding Road, R Block, Beer Chand Patel Path and IT roundabout to reach ISKCON temple in the evening.

Men and women of all ages, including children, participated in the yatra and danced on the tune of prayers and received ‘Prasad’. “Like every year, the response from devotees is very good and with every passing year number of devotees joining the yatra is increasing and I am sure when the construction work of the ISKCON temple is completed, we will have the yatra with much more grandeur,” Krishna Kripadas of ISKCON, Patna unit, told TOI.

In fact, onlookers and passers-by too offered their service to the yatra as women were seen voluntarily sweeping the path with broom. Ashwani Singh, a businessman, with his family and associates offered free sherbet to the devotees. The yatra concluded with ‘mahaarti’ in the evening and distribution of ‘mahaprasad’. State’s food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak and former health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, another rath yatra was organized by Bhikhamdas Thakurbadi Nyas Samiti at Bakarganj.
