LORD SRI CHAITANYA MAHAPRABHU, is Lord Krishna Himself, in the form of His own devotee. He appears in this world to spread love for Krishna through the congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord (Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare). He appeared in Sridhama Mayapur, West Bengal, in 1486. His activities and teachings are described in detail in the book “Teachings of Lord Chaitanya” and the multi-volume “Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita.” (See also Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.5.32.)
ISKCON was founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in the 1960s in New York. Srila Prabhupada spread the mission of Lord Chaitanya to many parts of the world including U.S. and India; and the disciples and devotees have been continuing the work. ISKCON’s home center is in Mayapur, India (where SRI CHAITANYA MAHAPRABHU was born), and has hundreds of branches all over the world.
