TRANSLATION: O sinless Vidura, all of a sudden, while Brahma was engaged in thinking, a small form of a boar came out of his nostril. The measurement of the creature was not more than the upper portion of a thumb.

TRANSLATION: O descendant of Bharata, while Brahma was observing Him, that boar became situated in the sky in a wonderful manifestation as gigantic as a great elephant.

TRANSLATION: Struck with wonder at observing the wonderful boarlike form in the sky, Brahma, with great brahmanas like Marici, as well as the Kumaras and Manu, began to argue in various ways.

TRANSLATION: Is this some extraordinary entity come in the pretense of a boar? It is very wonderful that He has come from my nose.

drsto ‘ngustha-siro-matrah ksanad ganda-sila-samah

TRANSLATION: First of all this boar was seen no bigger than the tip of a thumb, and within a moment He was as large as a stone. My mind is perturbed. Is He the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu?

PURPORT: Since Brahma is the supermost person in the universe and he had never before experienced such a form, he could guess that the wonderful appearance of the boar was an incarnation of Visnu. The uncommon features symptomatic of the incarnation of Godhead can bewilder even the mind of Brahma.

Kavicandra Swami: We have a lot of people despite so many going on the parikrama. Welcome everybody. I’ll try to get your mercy to say something that will invoke more Krsna consciousness in all of us. Srimad-Bhagavatam is completely transcendental. It is all auspicious for everyone. We are very fortunate to have it and somehow or other, we hold these classes everyday. Many people watch on the internet or they are hearing on the radio all over the world, from all different parts of the world. If we can become absorbed in this Srimad-Bhagavatam, we can actually understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead and understand the Bhagavatam for what it is.

Devananda Pandit, who was over in what is now Navadvipa, he was a teacher of Srimad Bhagavatam, so-called professor. Srivasa Pandit heard him speak. He heard Bhagavatam verses, and became overwhelmed with ecstasy. He started rolling on the ground, so the followers of this Devananda, they didn’t understand the Bhagavatam properly, so they threw Srivasa out as a disturbance and a serious whatever it was.

Later, Nimai, Lord Caitanya, was passing by. He just started shouting at Devananda Pandit, “You’re a rascal! You’re a fool! You don’t understand a word of Srimad-Bhagavatam! You’re just a disturbance to society!” Very loudly shouting outside his school.

Later, this Devananda saw a kirtan with Vakresvara Pandit. Vakresvar Pandit was a great devotee, and especially a great dancer. If you have read Caitanya-caritamrta, you know that he could dance for seventy-two hours. He was lamenting that no one could have kirtan for seventy-two hours. He was praying that some Gandharvas would come and he could dance. So when this Devananda, in spite of his dull-headedness, he saw Vakresvara Pandit dancing in ecstasy and chanting, he became attracted. Vakresvara would be sweating like anything. He would fall on the ground, get all muddy. Devananda started to help him. He would pick him up, wipe his face. He would stay behind him when he was dancing so if he fell over backwards, he would catch him. He would get on the ground, get dirty. Lord Nityananda used to do that for Lord Caitanya.

So he started hearing from Vakresvara Pandit and becoming attracted. Next time he saw Nimai, Caitanya Mahaprabhu, he asked him, “What is the real meaning of Bhagavatam?”

Lord Caitanya told him, “It is all bhakti, only bhakti, and nothing else.” He took it and he became a great devotee.

Any house where the Bhagavatam is kept, there cannot be any inauspiciousness. Any house is protected by Srimad-Bhagavatam, but we want the entire set of Srimad-Bhagavatam in every house and then we want to get the people to somehow read the Srimad-Bhagavatam, not just keep it, although even keeping it is also good. People understand that about spiritual books.

Sometimes we tell people that they don’t have to read it because many people say, “I do not read. I do not want to read.” Tell them it has its own vibration. It will benefit you even if you do not read it, which is true because they will think about it. Eventually, someone will read it.

Even in Israel, I met a rabbi from the Kabala and he gave me their book. They have one set of books called Zohar, I think it is, big box of books written in Aramaic language that very few people can read, but he said that you do not have to read it. Its vibration will benefit your house. I was thinking we should remember that. But we want to follow up when people get books, we want to read them ourselves, so that we can explain these kind of things, so that people can accept what is Krsna, so that it is not something that is inconceivable that he can come out of the nose of Lord Brahma.

The materialists, even they study Vedic scriptures, academics, they think even Lord Brahma is mythological, what to speak of Varaha, Krsna. Once I spoke in one university, in the University of Minnesota, I think. It was mythology class. They were the only class that would invite us. The teacher said, “You believe in these things?”

I said, “Yes.”

“Stupid guy that you believe in Krsna, that you really believe that he did these things.” To create even one universe is inconceivable, but for Krsna it is one little universe out of billions of universes. That is nothing compared to the spiritual. And the real thing is the lilas, pastimes.

The boar is one. You are familiar with this example of the Lord’s concern and compassion for the people on the earth. Because of the disturbance of the demons the earth had fallen in the ocean, the mud, the Causal Ocean. The boar is very good at digging in the mud, right? Do you know that?

In Samoa, they use the boar to till their garden. They keep running the pigs back and forth to dig it up. Their feet dig it up and they can plant their gardens. So they are experts at digging in the mud. The big ones have those big tusks. He can pick up the earth. He is so big, he can pick up the entire earth, put it back in its orbit.

If you do not understand the orbit and everything you can get some books from Danavir Maharaja about that, right? It will explain all about the planets and how they are moving around. That is inconceivable. No one can really observe what is going on because we are in such a small position, but the scriptures tell everything.

The main thing to know about Krsna of all these opulences is that he is so beautiful. His opulence of beauty regulates everything else. It is overwhelming to everything else. The Deities are opening up and a lot of you have your back to the Deities, which is not recommended in Nectar of Devotion. In fact, it is one of the offenses in Deity worship. Try to turn sideways.

Krsna is extremely merciful in this age of Kali. The incarnation of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, that is the most merciful and most inconceivable of all of them. Although he appeared apparently as a human being and took birth, like Nrsimhadeva, Varaha, many of these, they just somehow appear out of pillar, out of the nose of Lord Brahma, not mothers and fathers, Lord Caitanya appeared to take birth from a mother, grew up, and got educated. Prabhodananda Sarasvati is saying that all the other incarnations, whatever they did, killing demons, this is nothing, insignificant compared to Caitanya Mahaprabhu who came to give krsna-prema freely to anyone who would take it in the form of the Holy Name.

Kali yuga, nama-avatara, the Holy Name is the avatara. This is the age, of course you know, religiosity is very down. Irreligiosity is very up. Sometimes people say, “Well, why doesn’t Krsna come?” He comes when this happens. He has come and he is all over the world in his form of the Holy Name and the Deity, especially the Deity of Gaura-Nitai is appearing more and more and giving love of God freely to anyone who will take it. Those who have it feel they want to give it, they want to share it. That is when we get mercy. Bhaktivinod Thakur is singing:

kabe nityananda, more kori ‘doya charaibe mora visayera maya

When we get the mercy of the feet of Lord Nityananda, then namera hatete dibe adhikar, then we get the power, the privilege to distribute the Holy Name. It is not something we have to do, chant the Holy Name, “We have to chant.” We are fortunate that we have this privilege, special mercy that Krsna will appear anywhere if we just chant the Holy Name. If we give the Holy Name then he is even more pleased. That is a special privilege given to anyone who is fortunate to take shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda who is going all over, of course, starting all over Navadvaip and chanting all day:

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Actually, I don’t know if Vakresvara Pandit was there, but Lord Nityananda, when he was at Panihati, after that feast of Raghunath, he went to the house of Raghava Pandit and he had a seventy-two hour kirtan. Everybody forgot eating and sleeping, everything. Even children, everybody was absorbed in the flow of the nectar of the Holy Name and the mercy of Lord Nityananda. These things are going on, even Kadamba flower bloomed on a lemon tree or something. All kinds of things happened. Raghava Pandit’s house was famous for all the things they would cook for Lord Caitanya, all the sweets. He would send them to Puri because they were sweets and could last a long time.

This is our mission, to hear the Srimad-Bhagavatam. All of this is very important. The boar, of course we know that story. Hiranyaksa and Hiranyakasipu. When they were born, there were earthquakes and hurricanes and all the things we read about in the news nowadays. If it is not some war, there is some sort of hurricane or earthquake or volcano or tsunami. All of these things happen all over the universe due to the birth of these big demons. Bhagavatam explains these are signs of demons taking birth.

We can understand that demons are taking birth because it’s a good place for them now. So many people are anxious for the things the demons have to offer: gambling, intoxication, illicit sex, meat eating, and animal slaughter. Devotees are trying to make the place less attractive to demons. The demons do not want to take birth where there is chanting of the Holy Name. They do not like the chanting of the Holy Name, according to Arjuna, “The world becomes joyful, but the demons flee.” The more we are chanting, the more the demons have to flee until there is no space for them on the planet.

We can see even from this festival people are coming from all over the world, they are all chanting Hare Krsna, we can all get along, kirtan. That is our way to push back the influence of Kali. Kali, this is his age, the age of quarrel. He is everywhere causing quarrel, between husband and wife so divorce rates are just inconceivable, between nations, between planets probably, everywhere quarreling. Even he comes in the society of the devotees to try to create quarrel so that we won’t have enough energy to preach. We will be busy quarreling deciding how to preach [laughter] or who should preach. We have to fight about it instead of just getting together and chanting the Holy Name:

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

When I was younger, I was at that time older than a lot of the devotees, but we had some quarrel in the temple. The Temple President was not happy that I was telling everyone to go on book distribution. He was saying that there would be no one to take care of the temple, creating this consciousness. Prabhupada said, “He is right. Everyone should go on book distribution. One person can take care of the temple.” But he said, “You are intelligent and if you cannot settle your differences just forget everything and sit down and chant.”

Then Kali will leave, when there is kirtan. We want to have always kirtan, twenty four hours kirtan: satatam kirtayanto mam. The devotees are always chanting, then they are always happy, always joyful, always talking about Krsna. If we go out and chant publicly, then Krsna is even more pleased. If we want to get the mercy of Lord Nityananda, then go out, chant, get as many people with you as you can. If you cannot get anyone to go with you, go out by yourself. Somebody will join. New people will join or old people will join.

The sankirtan movement, that is what we are here for, to help arrange and be compassionate. Vanca kalpa tarubhyas ca, full of compassion for all living entities. That means all living entities, everyone is a devotee, but especially the devotees are devotees. We made a new committee for the GBC. “Caring for Devotees.” Caring means compassion. It means trying to help. But how do we help people? Charity begins at home. Devotees are happy, they will want to go out and bring other people. Other people that see the devotees will want to join. Caring means we make all arrangements to help people to chant Hare Krsna. It might mean we have to take care of their health. I might mean we have to, like in Chowpatty they have a group to help people find jobs, devotees. They are learning.

Like in Japan, the Toyota company, they are very smart. They have forty percent of the car sales in Japan, forty-five, I think. It is very hard to find a parking place in Japan. You cannot register a car unless you have possession of a parking place within two kilometers of your house. So Toyota has a special division to help you find a parking place so that you can buy a car. Otherwise you cannot buy the car. Nobody has a time to go out and find their own parking place.

We learn from that to help devotees in every way. Chowpatty is a perfect example of that. They even have a bank where devotees can borrow money at low interest and they can deposit their money and get more interest. It is called the Yamuna-something that means the bank of the Yamuna. [Laughter] That is where Krsna is dancing, yamuna-tira-vana-cari. He is playing on the bank of the Yamuna. It is making a big profit and helping in great ways a lot of people because everybody is just thinking how to serve devotees.

vaisnava-seva, nama-sankirtana
dui kara, sighra pabe sri-krsna-carana

Lord Caitanya said by chanting the Holy Name and serving devotees, then very quickly, sighra, we get the lotus feet of Krsna. By chanting the Holy Name, vaisnava-seva, nama-sankirtana, these two things, dui kara sighra pabe, sighra means quickly. Like our Sridhar Maharaja used to tell people, life members, “Subhasya sighram, if it is auspicious, do not wait. Do it right away. Do it quick. Surrender to Krsna. Give everything. Give your life.”

That is what is going to really help us. That is what really helps anyone else, when we give them Krsna. Giving Krsna that is our assistance. Krsna is the supreme controller. He is providing for everything. If we connect with Krsna, then we do not have to worry.

He is the Laksminatha, Lord of the goddess of fortune. Lord Caitanya, when he asked Srivasa Thakur, “How is it that you do not work but you have a big family and a big house and everybody is comfortably living and there is no shortage of anything?” He said, “That is because you have faith in Lord Nityananda.” First he asked him, “How can you keep this crazy guy in your house, Lord Nityananda, no one knows anything about him. He is acting mad, dancing naked, talking crazy.”

So Srivasa was explaining that he did not care what Lord Nityananda did, even if he went in a liquor shop or married a Muslim girl, there is a whole list, still he knows who he is. It is all for Krsna. Lord Caitanya was very happy. He said, “Because you have this faith in Lord Nityananda, even if Laksmidevi, the goddess of fortune becomes a beggar and has to go house to house begging some food, your house will never have any shortage.”

It’s all there, like Sivarama Maharaja was explaining yesterday. We just take the order of the spiritual master, Founder-acarya, Srila Prabhupada, preach the Holy Name, use everything, do it more, and Krsna just keeps giving. Krsna wants everyone who is surrendering. He is indiscriminate, especially Lord Nityananda is indiscriminate. Krnsadasa Kaviraja said, “I am very fallen,” speaking of himself, “but only Lord Nityananda could save me because he is crazy.” He is a madman, drunken. He cannot discriminate if a person is qualified or not so he rescues everyone.

Most of us, not all of us, but most of us, if we think about where we took birth, what kind of early life we had, we can understand that mercy of Lord Nityananda, how Prabhupada manifested that mercy and reached out to everyone. He gave the Srimad-Bhagavatam, such exalted literature, for everyone in English. Then arranged for it to be translated in so many languages and books are still, new books. The BBT is now working on one hundred and ninety new books. Is that the right number? Something like that, one hundred and ninety-something new books in so many different languages, Bhagavad-gita in almost every language, but other books are way ahead, we have a long way to go.

The Christians analyze there are something like thirty-six hundred languages. They are thinking which one to do next. The books that are in the most languages is Mickey Mouse [laughter], so there is competition. We need to think how to go to everyone. In any language, most of the people have never heard of Krsna, they have never seen the Srimad-Bhagavatam, even Bhagavad-gita, they have never heard the Holy Name:

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

I was distributing books in Osaka in a rather degraded area, which is especially degraded in a degraded area, but there are a lot of nice people there. Most of them do not know anything, but they become interested. One man came up behind me. He did not fit in there. He was dressed very nicely He was sober. He was chanting walking behind me, “Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna”.

I said, “Wow! What is this?” I showed him a book and he got really excited.

He said, “How much?”

I said, “Give a donation.” He gave me a hundred dollars. I should have asked for more, but I got bewildered [laughter] because usually ten is big. He just loved the books. I said, “Where did you learn to chant?”

He said, “From Boy George.” It was far out. Then he was gone.

People all over the world, they want to be devotees. They are looking for devotees. They might not even know who devotees are. We like to show, “Here we are.” In America now, England, so many countries, people see us, they say, “Where have you been? We do not see you. We thought there was no more Hare Krsna.”

I saw the list of cults from the Christian anti-cult and we were not on the list. And everyone else was, the Jehovah’s Witness, Yoga, Vegetarian, everything was a cult, but no Hare Krsna. I thought, “Oh, we’ve convinced them we’re good guys. I told Trivikrama Maharaja. He said, “No, they think they’ve finished us off.” [laughter] They never see us any more so they think we’ve got rid of them.

Of course there are more devotees than ever spread out all over the congregation, you can read these magazines, but we want also to be out, we want to reach out to everybody, all the people everywhere with the harinama. Even in this area people love to see the harinama. Everywhere they love it and join in. In Athens, there are a lot of stray doges and there are a couple of them that always come and join. They sit really nice and follow along. Finally the girl dog comes and they run away.

People ask, “What drug are you taking, how can you be so happy? What are you doing, please tell us, give us the secret.” Hare Krsna, that’s the secret, it is the mercy of Lord Nityananda, eternal bliss. That is what the Bhagavatam is all about. It is all about bhakti, Lord Caitanya is showing us what is bhakti, chanting the Holy Name. That is surrender. The more we give it, Prabhupada stressed, controlling the mind means thinking how to give the Holy Name to everyone. That is controlling the mind. It does not mean stopping the mind like we learn when we try to be Mayavadi meditators or Buddhist meditators, stop thinking, dull your mind.

People end up taking intoxication because that’s a much easier way to dull your mind and stop it from functioning. They think that a coma is like ecstasy, it is the goal of life or something to be in a coma. The goal is to be thinking of Krsna all the time. That is controlling the mind. Fill it up with Krsna, the Holy Name, Srimad-Bhagavatam, all these pastimes. The pastimes are the topmost meditation but they are easy to remember. We can do dramas about it.

Lord Nityananda did dramas as a child of all the lilas of Krsna, all the avataras, everything. Even five years old he was organizing all his friends. Everyone thought, “How do you know these things, you’ve never read a book?”

He said, “These are my lilas. Of course I know.”

They thought he’s just a child, he’s talking away. They didn’t realize who he was, but Lord Caitanya knew who he was and now we know he was. We have Panca Tattva here. It’s a great fortune to spread this movement all over the world, take the mercy of Lord Nityananda, get the power to distribute the Holy Name, to represent our Founder-acarya, Srila Prabhupada, by really studying his purports, studying the lilas, studying what he did, so we can give it to everyone. Then the world can become a place that doesn’t attract demons so much, the demons will be running away. More and more devotees will take birth, many devotees are taking birth also. We see these children.

The other day I was walking through the garden and there was a Calcutta family and the little girl just started reciting Bhagavad-gita and then she recited the whole Siksastam and then she started chanting the Isopanisad and she was five years old. She was touching my feet, trying to get mercy, but I should get her mercy. All over we see like that. We went on Harinam in Kalna and this little Rangini was jumping up and down like this for two hours on the back of a rickshaw. All the people were like, “What is this!”

These devotees are taking birth also everywhere. We need to take care of all the devotees so they can be healthy, materially healthy, spiritually, mentally healthy to go out and show people that this is good, you surrender to Krsna, you don’t lose anything, you gain everything. You’ll be happy and you don’t have to work so hard to be happy.

People work so hard to try to get happy, but it never works. What do they offer? In Nigeria and Ghana they have beer. They have so many signboards. One beer they say is the “ultimate.” The other one says “experience the greatness, be great, drink beer.” The other says “Reward yourself, you’ve worked hard, drink this beer, you deserve it.” The goal of life, you work hard and you can get beer. [laughter]

And who is ultimate? Krsna is the ultimate truth, the Absolute Truth. We have also a lot of devotees there. One devotee has a radio show called the Absolute Truth, it’s very nice. People are being misled and bewildered. It’s Kali-yuga, they are unfortunate. Their minds are very disturbed, but they can be saved very easily by the Holy Name, getting prasadam, get purified, by chanting the Holy Name, hearing the Holy Name, seeing devotees in ecstasy, the become attracted. They get a book, this year in Delhi the Radha-Parthasarathi temple distributed two hundred thousand Bhagavad-gitas in December.

Another temple in Delhi, Punjabi Bagh, distributed one hundred and twenty five thousand in one month. Some of them were corporate, one guy bought like forty thousand Gitas. This should be happening in other countries. In Bombay, same thing, everywhere. India distributed 75% of the books in the world this year. The rest of us have a lot to do to catch up and give that mercy everywhere because the books will purify people, give them real knowledge. Otherwise they are getting just cheated by these so-called. . . .

So take the mercy of Lord Nityananda, join in all the different kirtans around here, parikramas. Get the mercy of the holy dham so we can take it back and give it to everyone, spread it. The more we chant here, then when we go back we will be empowered to overcome the demoniac influences in all the other parts of the world and elevate everyone to Krsna consciousness.

Thank you very much. I don’t know what time it is. Exactly right? Very good. I heard Dravida the other night. I didn’t know who it was, it sounded so blissful I had to go in. So thank you very much.

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

We don’t have time for any questions.
