When you’re tired of wasting money, cell phone mintes, and, most importantly, your time due to phone systems that require you to press 10 or more options in order to reach a real person and spending many minutes or even hours on hold, consult the GetHuman database of secret phone numbers and codes that immediately get an actual, live person on the line for customer service at nearly 1000 major companies.
I needed to talk to Time-Warner / RoadRunner about cable modem problems this morning.. I looked them up on the GetHuman list, got a number, sure enough, it got me DIRECTLY to technical support without going through an option tree from Hell.. it was a number that they don’t advertise anywhere.. I’ve spent literally half an hour or more navigating their ridiculous phone trees to get to someone in the past, listening to muzak and advertising.. if you’ve ever gone through that torture, and who hasn’t.. by the time you finally finagle your way to a person you’re so pissed off all you want to do is yell at them.. so if you need to call some huge company you do business with (or want to) in the future, and you’re tired of them insulating themselves from you (figuring you’ll just give up and hang up..) .. forcing you to try every option you can think of including pounding Zero over and over (and on many companies’ phone systems, Zero goes nowhere and isn’t even an option!).. try looking them up on gethuman. com it is a VERY valuable resource.. it would be time well-spent to also look around the other “tabs” on their Web site, especially the FAQ, the About, and the Blog tabs to see how they suggest which companies “get” Customer Support, and which don’t.. there’s a fascinating table in either their About or FAQ tab if you scroll down, that shows the different kind of responses you can get from these corporate phone systems, such as “please listen carefully as the options have changed”, or “your call will be the next answered” or “press 1 for English”.. and what these things REALLY mean.. did you know that selecting the option for Spanish will often get you to a bi-lingual human FASTER than if you select the English-only option?..
Their online Blog is also fascinating to read through.. people telling stories about company phone systems from Hell, asking for more companies to be listed, (and the guys who run gethuman. com DO dig up the information and DO answer those people..) .. and also their own discoveries of “secret” phone numbers and hidden dial options to get to a human instead of sitting there watching yourself age while you punch one number after another and get nowhere..
People should NOT have to suffer through this baloney.. one’s time is NOT worthless.. all it does is cause frustration, anger, and stress..
The prices for what we pay for everything keeps going up, and our business is valued less and less by the companies we pay more and more to.. because of all these corporate buyouts, companies that used to have a lot of competition and actually cared, now have less competition, so they care less.. as if Sprint cares if a customer has to sit on hold for an hour.. or get shuffled from one person to another when they have 60 million customers.. they DON’T care..
My late Dad was not only a Dean of Humanities at CSUDH, but he was a very tenacious consumer advocate.. he taught me about how to get satisfication, instead of getting jacked around..
Too many people just throw up their hands and say “that’s the way it is, you can’t do anything about it”.. I couldn’t disagree more..
And if a resource like gethuman.com saves people time, anger, and stress, than passing the word around about it is worth it.. and the people who put it together deserve our Thanks..
