    Pundarika Vidyanidhi dasa :

Today I saw a posting about 5 books being released. One of the book descriptions says one can learn why Govardhana Hill was cursed to sink every day. This is not very accurate, however, as Govardhana Hill is not subject to anyone’s curse.

This may be understood from the incident related with Saubhari Muni cursing Garuda. Srila Prabhupada writes in connection with Saubhari Muni cursing Garuda in the Krsna Book, Chapter 17: “It may be noted that Garuda is directly related to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and is so powerful that he is never subject to anyone’s order or curse.”

Also in the Caitanya-caritamrta (Adi 17.64) it is stated: “Any faithful person who hears of this brahmana’s cursing Lord Caitanya is delivered from all brahminical curses.” Curse may have been there, but can Govardhana be subjected to anyone’s curse? This is not very reasonable.

There is, however, historical evidence that Govardhana Hill is sinking, but the actual reason is not due to anyone’s curse. Srila Sanatana Gosvami in his Brhad Bhagavatamrta (1.6.121 purport) directly states that Govardhana Hill is sinking into the earth out of separation from Lord Krsna. Therefore devotees are encouraged to relieve Govardhana of this separation by circumambulating Govardhana while chanting the holy names of Krsna.
