Bhakta Dave: Hare Krishna Prabhus and Matajis!

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to the devotees of IPM!

Recently I decided to begin sending preaching reports to all the IPM devotees. I will be doing this on a monthly basis (hopefully). Below is my preaching report for the month of October. I would like to offer the following results to His Holiness Jayapataka Swami. I pray that Jayapataka Swami be granted a speedy recovery and that he be allowed to remain on this planet for many years to come.

In October I:

Wrote 25 letters Received and processed 6 letters (this total will increase) Distributed 44 books (this includes 11 Srimad Bhagavatam volumes) Distributed 28 BTGs

This brings my totals for 2008 to:

164 letters written
127 letters received
268 books distributed
102 BTGs distributed

Other notable items sent out in October are:

1 set of chanting beads
2 BBT calendars
16 devotional pictures (of Srila Prabhupada, temple deities, Krishna Lila, avatars, etc.)

Donations received:

6 Books- Bala Gopal/ Lalita Sundari
10 Stamped Envelopes- Bhakta Jason Matthews

I am regularly corresponding with an average of about 10 incarcerated bhaktas a month.

The month began on an auspicious note. New Dwarka was blessed with the presence of His Holiness Candramauli Swami. I was fortunate enough to attend the Srimad Bhagavatam class that he gave and conversed with him afterwards. By the mercy of Bala Gopal and Kishore Madhava (two devotees in LA), it was even arranged for me to drive Candramauli Swami to Giriraja Swami’s ashram in Santa Barbara. I thank Candramauli Swami for allowing me to render this service as well as for his support and guidance within the prison ministry.

I am constructing a similar email as this and will be sending it to IPM supporters in LA. Right now I have 19 people on that list. Although all of these devotees know that I perform service for the prison ministry, I realized that many of them probably don’t know exactly what I do. These emails should serve to inform them of the many service opportunities within IPM as well as to provide them with inspirational news regarding the ministry.

Over the past few months I have been asking inmates if they would like to receive Back to Godhead issues and/ or Freedom Newsletter issues on a regular basis. If they say yes, I put them on my subscription list. Right now I have 13 BTG subscribers and 16 Freedom Newsletter subscribers. Thank you to Shyama Priya for sending me new issues of BTG as they come out. Just to note: I am printing out Freedom Newsletters from my computer to save printing and shipping costs to Bhakta Jerry.

Many thanks to Chandrasekhara, Shyama Priya, Bhakta Jerry, and Bhaktin Heather for sending me items for my upcoming scrapbook. I now have various inmate letters, photos, and artwork as well as supportive letters from prison chaplains. I am planning on compiling these items along with some articles and excerpts from inmate letters into a scrapbook which I can display at a Sunday Feast table. I would like to inaugurate the Sunday Feast table during the Prabhupada Marathon.

I’ll close with an excerpt from one letter I received:

“I am not an intelligent devotee. The only true intelligence is seeking Lord Sri Krsna. The more I study, I am humbled and see what a mudha I am. I am so unworthy of any mercy from Lord Krsna. You are my God-brother prabhu. I am so thankful and blessed by your continued association.”

Bhakta Ben Phoenix, AZ

I thank you all for your inspiration, encouragement, and guidance. I pray that I always have the association of devotees. May Srila Prabhupada and Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai continue to shower Their blessing upon the prison ministry!

Your humble servant,

Bhakta Dave
