A paper recycling unit has been installed in Vrindavan under the project of Vrindavan Kuda Prabandhan Pariyojna. The recycling unit was inaugurated on the auspicious day of Shivratri, 23rd February, 2009 at Friends of Vrindavan’s office campus situated in the Chhota Munger Mandir. The plant was jointly inaugurated by His Holiness Acharya Shrivatsa Goswami, Swami B.A. Paramadvaiti His Holiness Baba Sevak Sharan in the presence of many devotees and residents of Vrindavan.
The inauguration of the hand made paper unit is an important milestone in the pilot project of Cleaning the Pilgrimage town of Vrindavan. It will help to minimize the garbage generated in the project areas and find livelihood for many unprivileged families. Friends of Vrindavan has been actively engaged in the garbage management operation in Vrindavan and set examples of the community partnerships in keeping the town clean.
FoV has already been recycling the bio degradable waste into organic manure and recycling the plastic carry bags into hand woven baskets, bowls etc. Now, several new products will be made out of the recycled papers. The sale of these products helps to sustain the Street Cleaning and waste recycling activities. The programme is being supported by the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme and the support has also been leveraged from Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Yash Birla Group, World Vaishnav Association and other philanthropic agencies.
