On the 8th of May 2019 an International Seminar was held on Communications, Religion and Culture (ISO-CRC) at the prestigious Sekolah Tinggi Agama Hindu (College of Hindu Religion), Singaraja, Bali. HH Subhag Swami was invited as the keynote speaker to attend the seminar and discourse on, ‘An Introduction to Religion and the Essence of Vedic Knowledge.’ An audience of 200 students, faculty chairman and faculty secretaries were present.
‘…it is nice that you are infiltrating into the schools and colleges. These are the best customers for our philosophy. Give them nice philosophy.’ Letter to Danavir 12th December 1971
The seminar began with singing the Indonesian National Anthem and various Bali Hindu prayers invoking auspiciousness. After the event was officially inaugurated His Holiness was invited to address the audience. Maharaj delivered a PowerPoint presentation and spoke for an hour and covered a variety of topics. He stressed the importance of living a simple life in relation to God for peace and prosperity by implementing the teaching of Bhagavad-Gita in our daily life.
Being an International Seminar there needed to be at least 3 speakers from different countries. Nila-kamala das from the United Kingdom spoke on the importance of Vedic culture in today’s day and age. Agus Widiantara (Lecturer, Journalist and the Leader of the Hindu Youth of Bali) from Indonesia spoke on uniting everyone together regardless of external differences. ‘’
The next part of the program was questions and answers from the audience. A ray of hands shot up to ask questions to Maharaj. A range of questions were asked, ‘What is the difference between Bhagavad Gita as it is and other editions of the Bhagavad Gita? What is the ideal model of Vedic education to the youth of today? How can one connect with the soul?’ Maharaj answered the questions perfectly quoting scripture and also giving the practical side of the equation. The audience were satisfied and they offered a warm round of applause in appreciation.
The president of Sekolah Tinggi Agama Hindu presented certificates to the speakers and spoke a few words of gratitude. Wonderful prasadam boxes were distributed to the audience and devotees distributed Srila Prabhupada’s books to some fortunate souls. Maharaj personally signed the 25 books that were taken, including 16 Bhagavad Gitas.
‘Wherever my books are distributed profusely, our work is successful.’ MWC, Denver 28th June 1975
We thank all the devotees, especially Singaraja Devotees who helped in facilitating this seminar. We express our gratitude to HG Dattatreya das (ISKCON Singaraja president) and Vaikuntha-nath das (Lecturer at Sekolah Tinggi Agama Hindu) for organizing this event and working hard in order for things to go smoothly. We hope Srila Prabhupada is pleased with our small efforts in trying to share the valuable wealth of Krishna Consciousness to others.
