Colorful Candan Yatra Festival 2019 – Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara – Bali
By Gadadhar das
The Candan Yatra Festival was observed for seven days in Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara Temple, Bali. The festival started on the 5th of May and ended on the 11th of May 2019. This function is one of joy, especially for the children. For few days before devotees prepared sandalwood pulp to be applied to Lord Sri Krishna and Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai every day.
Devotees decorated the pool (kunda), stage and pandal with beautiful and fragrant flowers. It was difficult to tell there was water in the pond as it was completely covered with water. Devotees were joyous this year as they had the opportunity to hear Krishna katha from HH Subhag Swami Maharaj for two consecutive days.
During the boat festival Their Lordships were taken to the altar in the middle of the kunda. Devotees offered flowers and varieties of fruits. Whilst the offerings were going on, melodious kirtan was led by various kirtaneers. Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara had smiling faces accepting the offerings of Their devotees whilst circumambulating the pond in Their boat.
After the boat festival, devotees listened to Krishna katha with rapt attention. On the first day, Maharaj narrated the pastime of how Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu celebrated the boat festival in Narendra Sarovara and how the Lord and His associates sported together in the waters. The following day Maharaj spoke on the life of Madhavendra Puri. Maharaja mentioned how he was instructed by Gopal in a dream to bring sandalwood from Orissa and his reciprocation with the Lord. His Holiness concluded his class by quoting Srila Prabhupada, ‘Every day in Krishna Consciousness means a festival; chanting, dancing and feasting.’
On the last day of the festival, devotees invited some local Government officers and they were happy to attend the festival. One of the representatives of the Parliament also spoke and appreciated the beauty of the festival.
On behalf of the festival committee, who took charge of the festival, we offer our gratitude to Sri Sri Radharasesvara temple committee and all the devotees who had been participated and supported the festival. We would like to thank HH Kavicandra Swami and HH Ramai Swami, the GBC’s of Indonesia for their continuous support. We would also like to thank HH Subhag Swami for his association during the festival.
