The son of John Lennon pleads support for Tulsi Gabbard.
A New York man with famous parents posted a message on Twitter on Saturday night, urging people to donate to the 2020 presidential campaign of U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii.
The request came from Sean Ono Lennon, the 44-year-old son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
“Even if you are skeptical of Tulsi Gabbard you can’t say she doesn’t deserve to be part of this race,” Lennon wrote. “She is the primary candidate who is adding to a conversation around ending unnecessary wars.

    Hare Krishna!
How is this news related to a Krishna conscious website?

    Hare Krishna,

Tulsi Gabbard is a vaisnavi running for President of US. Sean Ono is surely bearing the values of his father at heart. Promoting peace was one of them. Peace is essential individually and collectively to pursue God consciousness. This alone is enough to relate it to a Krishna conscious website.

After all, Lord Krishna says in Bg 2.66 "How can one be happy without peace?" This is true individually and collectively.

In kali-yuga men are constantly disturbed by externals (SB 1.2.10). Trying to diminishsome ill effects of externals, where is the harm?

The SB source should have been 1.1.10.

    Thank you.

    Prabhava Vigraha Prabhu,
    Please accept my humble obiesances.
    All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
The context of BG 2.66 is Krishna telling Arjuna, peace is not possible unless one is connected to Him by performing their service without attachment to the result; and whether it is attractive to the mind and senses or repulsive. In this case Krisna is saying Arjuna cannot be peacefull if he does not engage in war. How do you relate this to John Lennon's antiwar activism and Tulsi Gabbard's anti- interventionists position?

Mundane politics is too confusing for me to get involved in. But to be fair, I think I should explain what I know of Tulsi Gabbard, as a devotee. I saw a talk she gave at the Boston Temple. It was clearly not rehearsed. She mostly looked directly at the Deities. She turned to the audience enough to maintain a personal connection. This indicates an inner mood of looking to Krishna to direct her speech. She eventually came up with " We have a chance to reflect the love Krishna has for us by dealing lovingly with each other. Which is easier said than done." Then she led Kirtan. She was not flashy or showy in the least. There was no campaigning. I was impressed and inspired. I can say she is a good candidate for pure devotional service. Does anyone know her sadhana schedule- does she do daily rounds, is she initiated etc.?

Thanks for you thoughtful reply. I was actually expecting exactly that kind of reply. And that is why I specifically wrote "This applies individually and collectively."
Srila Prabhupada has explained once that the material world is full of Hitlers, war makers, and Ghandis, peace makers or at least peace seekers. So one has to see on which ground one is taking action and how worth it is either from the material standpoint or the spiritual standpoint. When one is a devotee, he/she will know which ground or level one's actions will impact. As Srila Prabhupada has explained in Sri Isopanisad, a pure devotee will take care of the spiritual, but it includes the material as well. And in SI also he has written that every "ism" should be done in the spirit of isavasya. That makes it worth it as it becomes a form of karma-yoga (mantra 2, SI).
So you take these arguments and apply to the subject matter at hand. As I already mentioned Tulsi is a vaisnavi, not ordinary vaisnavi. She has the guts to go for the highest run of office and from there try to see what she could do. If she is doing that, she already knows what she has in mind. No need to get into details for this at this point. After all this is politics. One thing for sure, Srila Prabhupada has explained that the need of government support is essential to spread godly values or teachings. In SI, SP gave the example of Emperor Asoka, and the successful spreading of Buddhism because of his support.
Hope this makes a little sense to you. Hari, Hari bol.

    Prabhava Vigraha Prabhu,
Okay. I am certainly not against her becoming President. But I wish we could be a bit more realistic in our comparisons. The influence of the religious beliefs of the U.S. President is not comparable to that of an Emperor. Also, I recently spent 7 years in academia and I must say that for her to spread godly values, at all, she will have to be at odds with mainstream liberalism. So maybe the problems with her and the democratic party are a good sign.
