We are honoured and happy to get an opportunity to participate in this very important function which is bringing together the go-seva bhaktas from all over India. The Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, gave tremendous emphasis and importance on cow protection and the Vedic simple lifestyle centered on villages and the principles of self sufficiency.
The very principles of Sanatana Dharma actually begin with the protection of cows:
namo brahmanya devaya go-brahmana hitaya ca jagad-dhitaya krishnaya govindaya namo manah
“My Lord, You are the well-wisher of the cows and the brahmanas, and You are the well-wisher of the entire human society and world.” (Visnu Purana
We all know that Lord Krishna, whose name is Govinda, is the best well-wisher of the cows. Actually, without cows no society can sustain itself. Therefore all of you who are here today participating in this very important conference have a very high responsibility because of the critical condition in which we are faced today. As we all know, cows are being neglected, abused and sent mercilessly to the slaughter houses all over the world. This is totally against the principles of dharma and therefore there is tremendous work to be done to rectify this situation.
So we are very pleased that this conference is taking place. We would request the kind blessings of the Lord so that the following few days of discussions and exchanges that will take place will be fruitful and the cause of cow protection all over India, and eventually all over the world, can be taken up very seriously and effectively to ensure that the cows and the principles of dharma can be protected.
The best blessings we can actually request and expect from the Lord is that all of us can chant together the holy name of the Lord at least one time to purify our individual consciousness and also give blessings to this conference.
So everyone can kindly repeat after me by raising your hands:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
