Dear Jayadvaita Maharaj and Hriday Chaitanya Prabhu,

Namonamaha. Jaya Srila Prabhupada!

Over the past few days I’ve read the many sincere and well written testimonials that have appeared on dandavats. com in praise of Sriman Gopiparanadhana Prabhu, who passed away untimely at holy Govardhan a few days back.

Certainly he was an emblem of scholarship and humility and his departure is a great loss for the ISKCON movement. Hopefully the important work he began at Govardhan will be will be carried on by the efforts of the BBT, the GBC and Gopi Prabhu’s well wishers.

However, there is something missing, and I would like to publicly make a humble submission in this regard.

It would be appropriate, in my humble opinion, that the BBT and/or the GBC set up a fund to look after Gopi Prabhu’s family, in view of his sudden and early departure. After all he was a grihasta, and has left behind a relatively young widow and young son. It would send a very positive signal to the “body of devotees” if such a fund was set up to particularly support his dependents in his absence, especially in view of the fact that he devoted his life to so many important scholarly works.

Besides setting up such a fund, it would be fitting if the income and expenditure of the fund be recorded publicly on dandavats. com (although if donors wish to remain anonymous, their wishes should be respected) for the information of the devotees and Gopi’s well wishers.

At this time I would like to announce an initial donation of Rs. 25,000/- to this fund - which I hope would be set up at the very earliest - on behalf of ISKCON Baroda.

Thanks very much for your kind consideration of the above.

Hoping this meets you both in the best of health and jolly spirits.

In the whole history of ISKCON there has never been a devotee who is more concerned for the well-being of his godbrothers than Shriman Basu Ghosh Prabhu. He never poses as a saint, he acts like an average Joe who is interested in your friendship. Yet he is intimately associated with Shrila Prabhupada and Shri Krishna and is always praying for the benefit of his fellow members of ISKCON. He is a deliverer aof fallen souls. If we were all as selfless as Shriman Basu Ghosh Prabhu, then how nicely this great family could progress. I offer my humble obeisances in the dust of the lotus feet of Shriman Basu Ghosh das Prabhu again and again. The few moments of his association I have had with him over the years remain with me and pull me closer to Shrila Prabhupada’s lotus feet. I am honored and humbled to be his godbrother.
