Varnasrama College Course in South India

Hare Krishna Akruranatha Prabhu,

Thank you very much for your encouraging words and concerns. It is very nice to know that you are interested about Varnasrama Mission. I also invite you to take part in the online GLOVESCO conference at pamho.net.

Keeping with the Vedic tradition, the whole course is free including boarding and lodging. If the students and like-minded would like to voluntarily give dakshina, they will be accepted.
Hope you will be able to participate sometime in future. Devotees in all levels of asramas are welcome, as is devotees interested in various spheres of farm life.

Thanks again for these important discussions. You guessed it right. The curriculum, the infrastructure, the teachers, students and the resources to train an individual for the making Vrndavan Villages has been well thought and laid out. Things will more refined step by step and this should be thought of as a pioneering stage.

Overall there is great enthusiasm in trying to fulfilling what Srila Prabhupada wanted many years back and so much he told about each temple having a Varnasrama Collge. I end with a comment. Thank you again. Hare Krishna

Your Servant,
Bharat Chandra Dasa

Prabhupada: …[The politicians'] business will be to exploit the poor
citizens. And they will be embarrassed and harassed so much: by one side, no
sufficient rain, and therefore scarcity of food, and the other side,
taxation by the government. In this way, the people will be so much harassed
that they’ll give up their home and go to the forest. Very [pitiful]…
Unless they take to Krsna consciousness, they’ll not be saved. The
varnasrama college has to be established immediately. Everywhere, wherever
we have got our center, a varnasrama college should be established to train
four divisions: one class, brahmana; one class, ksatriya; one class, vaisya;
and one class, sudra. But everyone will be elevated to the spiritual
platform by the spiritual activities which we have prescribed. There is no
inconvenience, even for the sudras.

Iskcon’s four movements

What is Classless Society mean?

Srila Prabhupada’s presentation of “Classless Society” or in other words “Varnasrama Society” is as follows:

“The fourth item is to organize the much discussed caste system as a solution of natural division of the human beings all over the world. Nationalistic division of human races is artificial but scientific division of the caste system as envisaged in the Bhagavad-gétä is natural. We shall have to pick up brähmaëas and others not only from the Indian people but from the peoples of all over the world. The vitiated caste system of present India is never sanctioned by the scriptures. But the caste system is made by God according to quality and work of the subject and it was never designed for the benefit of accidental birthright. Thus whatever is made by God cannot be destroyed by man. Destruction of the caste system, as contemplated by some exponents, is therefore out of question. By the modes of nature different persons are imbued with different qualities and the scientific way of division of human society, from the qualitative aspect, by the caste system is quite natural. But the basic principle of such caste system is to serve the plan of Godhead and by doing so the four orders of caste system make headway by the co-operative method. When such spiritual progress is definitely made, the materialistic progress is automatically effected as a matter of course. That makes a real classless society.”

While the first three “movements” or phases within ISKCON remain active and developed with (1) regular book printing and distribution promoted all over the world, with (2) continued new temple construction in major cities on different continents and with (3) on-going congregational preaching such as MIHET, BI, Bhaktivedanta College, BYS, IYF, etc., as well as Nam Hatta programs and Bhakti-Vriksa programs, the fourth area (4) Varnasrama communities, or more specifically establishing the ideal social model of Village Organization receives but little attention, promotion and commitment. There seems to be an increased concern, interest and commitment on the part of some in regards to cow protection, which is an essential component for developing varnasrama communities. However, the need for establishing self-sufficient communities, specifically the order given by Srila Prabhupada must be taken up more seriously to succeed in firmly establishing Lord Chaitanya’s mission.

New Books on Varnasrama by Varnasrama Book Trust

Hare Krishna Prabhu,

Yes I agree that we need a “renaissance of Varnasrama Projects”. It is very nice to hear about the translation project. We are trying to get the same book be printed in an economic edition in India from BBT.

Translations of the following resources to Hungarian and Russian would be very helpful too:
1. MAKE VRNDAVAN VILLAGES – By His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Maharaj
2. VARNASRAMA EDUCATION – His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Maharaj
3. IMPLEMENTING VARNASRAMA – His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Maharaj

Upcoming books by VBT are:
1. TRADITIONAL EDUCATION
2. JOINT FAMILY CONCEPTS AND ADVANTAGES
3. VARNASRAMA RESOURCE DIRECTORY

your servant,

Bharat Chandra Das
