I think that this is very good idea to put footnotes in regarding to Srila Prabhupada statements in regards to “woman that like to be raped”. I had doubt when I first read this statement. But this made me very thoughtful. I was never into what my generation people following sexual liberation were into. But I observed that what Srila Prabhupada said it was right. Ladies got drunk in bars and they knew in this condition they will be easily exploited by man. They didnt even remmember next day what happened and with how many man they had sexual relationship. This can not be taken to represent the whole population of ladies in the world, although this behavior is clearly visible in society. Sometimes they even show ideas of man being raped by woman that in other side represent the completely degraded state of the modern civilization. The only hope we have is to make them correctly to understand Srila Prabhupada’s statements without us trying to water them down and cover the reality.

BOOK DISTRIBUTION OF COURSE YES! BUT THEN……
Damana Krishna dasa:
If we want to know which activity pleased Srila Prabhupada the most then definitely book distibution will have a special place in the heart of Srila Prabhupada, who could overlook the faults of a devotee trying to distribute his books and gave him unlimited mercy.
ISKCON was first started on harinam sankirtana and then expanded through book distribution. It was do to this book distibution that devotees joined even in such environment like former USSR and other former comunits countries.
But sometimes when we look the precentage of people who get interest in our books and then people who actually are practicing Krishna Counsciousness we see that book distribution has a primary role in bringing people closer to Krishna, but we should not forget to cultivate any soul which shows little interest.
We are hearing many times of wonderful sankirtana lilas who a “searching soul” got Srila Prabhupada book, but then we see that somehow no one took care to water the creaper of devotion of this special soul.
ISKCON definitely is taking turn to take care of this matter and developing a good follow up and congregational building program, seing that only distributing hunderds of thousands of books doesnt automatically result in more devotees.
All ISKCON yatras should enthusiastically preach and distribute books but then not forget to give the addresses of interested people to someone who will really personally take care, keep contact, be available personally for questions, encouragement and building friendship.
Without personal care there is rarely long term result. We should try to build up a network of devotees who can give some personal time to help people who got Srila Prabhupada books to help them to develop deeper and ongoing engagement in devotional service. In this way we can develop a system with front and back part. Sankirtana in front bringing people in contact and follow up, personal care in the back part. I think it is of great importance that sankirtana devotees see their activity in this broad way so that they can enthusiastically connect intersted people with someone who will care of them. Sometimes we are happy to distribute a book, and we keep this person on Krishnas care, but most of the time this struggling person even in begining enthused can not even reach his way to the temple.
I think this is a very important meditation to conclude Srila Prabhupadas marathon even more successfully.

It is amazing thing that such horror can happen. I didnt get clearly the background of this incident as why this RSPCA entered the ground of ISKCON and killed the cow. Certainly there is no hope for this world until the majority of people will come to sattva guna- pious. People are campaining for dophins and dogs. Unfortunately there is no more exploited animal then cow. Feed with drugs and hormons to grow and give milk then mercilessly slaughtered. Lots of preaching to be done yet for us and future generations.

I had also my doubt that such performaces are useful for propagating the KC philosophy. Rasa dance is a very intimate personal activity of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Caitanya never spoke about it in public. Dramas he performed in association of devotees he considered to be qualified enough for such performances. Madhva, Ramanuja, etc never discussed even about this. Srila Prabhupada also at least to my knowledge didnt put any rasa lila performance on stage. My opinion is that it is doubtful that people who get attracted by nice appealing movements of oposite sex will be able to apply something of our spiritual practice. Maybe they will come to get married to some of this performers, but not neccesarily they will have interest to stay practicing even if they success in their effort to marry or even live together. Maybe even they will get the wrong idea of Krishna’s activities. In India there are many performances of such dances, but doubtfully any of this made some practicing devotees. Srila Prabhupada could attract people by purity and straight preaching with pure knowledge. If people see enjoying devotees they may get a shock when asked to follow 4 regulative principles. I have many times observed that Matajis especially those new coming are very much attracted to “go on stage” where they can be observed by oposite gender. But the enthusiasm for other at least so powerful services like book distribution doesnt seem there. So could be this makes a wrong habit in devotee. Maybe its same for male, but I have not seen many male performances so far. I am very happy this topic was brought to the discussion by HH Bir Krishna Maharaja.

Thank you very much, Praghosha Prabhu for addressing such important issue in a very expert way. We can not form strong devotee communities and build up strong preaching by example if this problems are not solved.

I think that initiation for woman shouldn’t be a problem. But certainly it is a very sensitive matter that is discussed here. Marriage means first of all a team project, team work. Two individuals are struggling to come to some cooperation. Here the spiritual masters have to be very expert in helping the two to become more successful in this endeavor. Sometimes it is even better that a renounced sannyasi Guru appoints some expert grhastha to deal with personal matters. There is problems if a individual is too ambitious to archieve something without involving the other partner. Or even both are ambitious to get some recognition from spiritual master or devotee community on account of their “spiritual archievements”. In this way also there is no proper example for the children who often have to suffer their parents quarrels or disagreements. I have heard of circumstances when gurus had two opinion of what disciple should follow and gave instructions in this way, so that it came to strong fight and even danger of separation. I personally think that Gurus should not have such big difference in opinion and if there is doubt there is Srila Prabhupada’s advice to follow. Srila Prabhupada told many times to lady disciples that their first duty is to take care of children. Certainly this is many times less ecstatic job then changing diapers and run after children who are doing all kinds of nonsense. It is much better to do some great service and get fame and recognition. But on the long term then parents they have to suffer the neglect of investing energy in children and their relationship. I think that Gurus should appoint some grhastha they have trust instead to manage the lives of families personally. This can be many times difficult to do ” renounced nature” of a spiritual master. Then there is no problem with woman taking initiation and all other issues.

Very important topic indeed. Thanks a lot for addressing it. From any point of view as scriptural, following Srila Prabhupada, and also from the point of view of healthy life Ekadasi prasadam on Janmasthami is to be followed. After all day fasting then midnight heavy grain prasadam makes you next day not able to follow Srila Prabhupada appearance properly. Means no morning program ,proper chanting etc. It would be interesting to hear why certain devotees have problem to follow this. We should not look how to avoid things but how to follow properly to attract full Srila Prabhupadas mercy. Thank you again for this article.

Thank you very much Maharaja for this important article. I also feel that we are trying to arrange for so many programs to preach through to people outside which are not directly connected to the chanting of Holy Names. This may be also useful, but for sure we have to give more importance to the chanting and street sankirtana as this was Lord Caitanyas primary action. I am trying to chant more rounds but have also to think how to involve in street chanting more taking inspiration from this article.

There are conspirancies in every government following the idea of “isvaro ‘ham aham bhogi siddho ‘ham balavan sukhi adhyo ‘bhijanavan asmi”. USA being in some sense the nation who wants control the bigger part of the world to get some profit is involved in international politics with such interest also. There are good parts of USA democracy but we should also not forget the bad part means propagating the unlimited sense gratification and way of free life which they try to transfer also to the other part of the world simply to increase the economic profit of certain people who have the power. So therefore there are policies of covering the truth and propagating certain public opinion as well in democratic governments. I dont see also much use of giving the time to such conspirancy theories but give the people KC. This will help people to save the world in all regards.
Srila Prabhupada used the fact that all world imitated the american way of life and therefore they would also accept the KC which has taken root in USA. But also within ISKCON USA has to be careful as many of compromising ideas take root also there in the deep rooted free way of thinking and keep the duty to remain fully focused on SP teachings.

When Narasimhadeva was fighting Hiranyakashipu then Lakshmi was still present as Srivatsa sign. This we should not forget. Krishna is never separated from his pleasure potency but this may not be visible to our limited eyes. Srila Prabhupada had perfect vision of Krishna’s pastimes and we may come up with so much of theoretical knowledge about rasa and all higher level of rasa tattva but did we cross the material existence, do we have transcendental senses? What about if Radharani is manifested as pleasure potency when Krishna is serving his friend Arjuna as driver. Isn’t it that Radharani is giving pleasure to Krishna and all other pleasure Krishna is experiencing because of Radharani’s presence as His pleasure potency. Can we ever separate Krishna’s pleasure potency from Him as well as can we separate heat from fire? It would be really interesting what SP would comment on this topic.

I always try to chant more rounds. I observed that actually difference between devotees who stay fixed many years in devotional service and those who slack down is how they are serious about chanting their rounds. If we see that Lord Caitanya asked his followers to chant 64 rounds and in previous ages on had to do so many austerities for thousands years, then we should be able to alot the neccesary time for chanting. Its is like breathing for the soul, and its better to live more simple then sacrifice rounds for material success.

Interesting is that here it is stated that jiva is supposed to be removed from Krishna’s association, but this actually is not possible. As the jiva in no circumstances can be separated from Krishna and is followed by the Paramatma in the heart. We can therefore conclude that the jiva is always with Krishna but not aware of his presence in his conditioned state. I aggree that this article would need much more scriptural backup and doesnt really solve the jiva issue.
