ISKCON GBC Executive Committee’s Letter to Ukrainian Devotee Refugees

Hare KrishnaBy the GBC Executive Committee

On behalf of the Governing Body Commission of ISKCON, please accept our prayers to Lord Krishna for your protection, as well as our deepest affection and concern for your well being. We are following the events in Ukraine in the media with heavy hearts. We have heard directly from Niranjana Maharaja about some of the great challenges, dangers and threats that you have undergone. By the Lord’s mercy many of you have survived close encounters with bomb blasts, militia attacks, and other terrible effects of living with war at your doorsteps. We know that the leaders of ISKCON in Ukraine are doing all that they can to assist you and to offer you spiritual guidance in this difficult time. Many of you have relocated, and have had to leave behind your homes, jobs and temple communities.

Black Holes And Gaping Mouths

Hare KrishnaBy Kesava Krsna Dasa

The famed Time Machine is now a serious inevitability, according to many. One scientist says that he wants to go back to the past to see his deceased father and possibly help him with present-day medicine. If Krishna says that He is Time and is the destroyer of all things, including our karma, then what type of power or technology can oppose this? Going back into the past means to undo karma and to undo history.

ISKCON Boston Hosts Interfaith “Field Trip”

Hare KrishnaBy Bhaktin Elle Mitchell

Dr. Catherine Cornille, Chair of the Department of Theology and Professor of Comparative Theology in Boston College, and author of numerous books on inter-religious dialogue, phoned ISKCON Boston with a request: Could she bring a large group of theologians to the temple on a site visit to experience a non-Western religious tradition? The answer was a strong “Yes!” The devotees were also thrilled to know that Prof. Diana L. Eck, a long-time friend of ISKCON and co-director of the conference, would be among the visiting scholars. Dr. Eck is a leading scholar specializing in religious diversity and inter-faith relations, serves as Professor of Comparative Religions at Harvard University, and is author of several texts exploring India and its bhakti traditions.

Hare KrishnaBy Mayapur.com

Nearly 6500 students from 115 schools participated in the 1st round in their respective schools. Students from each school were divided into 2 groups, class 7th to 9th, and class 10th to 12th. In each group the three best students were selected. These students along with their parents were invited to stay in Mayapur and receive the golden opportunity to have darshan of their Lordships Sri Sri RadhaMadhava, Lord Sri Narasimhadeva, Sri Pancha-tattva, and Srila Prabhupada.

Incorporation Of ISKCON

Hare KrishnaBy Satswarup dasa Goswami

“We shall call our society ISKCON.” Prabhupada had laughed playfully when he first coined the acronym. A friend had suggested a title that would sound more familiar to Westerners, “International Society for God Consciousness,” but Prabhupada had insisted: “Krishna Consciousness.” “God” was a vague term, whereas “Krishna” was exact and scientific; “God consciousness” was spiritually weaker, less personal. And if Westerners didn’t know that Krishna was God, then the International Society for Krishna Consciousness would tell them, by spreading His glories “in every town and village.”

Krishna Consciousness in Iceland

Hare KrishnaBy Sarvabhauma Dasa

I live in hot and humid Houston, Texas, a world away from Iceland, the unique North Atlantic island nation born entirely from thousands of volcanic eruptions. Despite attempts by devotees to preach there over the years, Iceland is one of the last Krishna conscious frontiers in the Western world, with no established temple or preaching center. Earlier this year, however, I discovered that Iceland has not at all been forgotten by Srila Prabhupada and Lord Caitanya.

Delicious Sins

Hare KrishnaBy Chirag Dangarwala

One such sin which every one of us commit in ignorance is related to eating food hence the name Delicious Sins. Although it sounds astonishing that how come eating food be sinful, since everyone tends to think that all the food in the world is meant for human consumption.

Hare KrishnaBy Alexey Eremenko

The Hare Krishna movement has been trying to build a temple in Russia since 1990. They still don’t have one. “They are just too bright and noticeable,” said Filatov, who works at the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

New NV Garden Manager Takes Step Closer to Sustainable Vision

By Madhava Smullen

Local food production was, of course, a major goal for New Vrindaban’s founder Srila Prabhupada, and was emphasized in the community from its inception in 1968 until 1979. But in the 1980s and ‘90s it began to taper off and then all but disappeared, until a smaller scale of farming was re-introduced in 1998 by the Small Farm Training Center.

ISKCON Baroda’s 33rd annual Jagannath Rathayatra festival 2014

By Basu Ghosh Das

The crowd gathered at the beginning of the procession continues to be quite large and impressive. There was a group of thousands that accompanied the Rath from the Railway station, through Sayajiganj, in front of the Maharaja Sayajirao University campus, to the Kala Ghoda (”black horse”) Circle, near the Sayaji Bagh (public garden, named after locally famous Maharaja (King) Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III - who lived from 1863-1939)

Prosperity of the Earth Culture

Hare KrishnaBy Varsana Swami

Cow protection, as set forth by Srila Prabhupada was not merely that the cow and the bull lead a full and natural life, but that they also be jolly, as a member of a family would feel. Cows and bulls are happy to be fed and brushed. While cows like to be milked, the main source of pleasure for the ox has been obscured by the tractor. An ox is a bull who has surrendered his procreative potential, transforming that energy into a submissive and manageable temperament capable of being trained and utilized for agricultural and transportation services. As a father figure he loves to provide for his family of humans by pursuing his occupation in the field which assures a source of income and prosperity to mankind.

Tomatoes from Heaven

Hare KrishnaBy Nityananda Ram Das

ISKCON farms have some great successes, and some great failures too, but with the money ISKCON now has, and the large congregation of young devotees, it has tremendous opportunity for self-sufficient farms. The idea that the modern age has changed the opportunity for simple living and high thinking on farms is not true. Self-sufficiency as it was on 1950’s farms could be easily replicated today by any young and very hard working devotee couple.

News from the Bhakti Yoga Club at Washington University in St. Louis

Hare KrishnaBy Jaya Subhadra Devi Dasi

For the first few years the average attendance was less than 5 students, generally just 1 or 2 students would participate in the weekly events. In recent years, however, the attendance has grown significantly to where 10 or more students participate on average. Weekly yoga sessions were added that helped to bring in more students to the core program of hearing, chanting and honoring of Krishna Prasadam. The St. Louis temple is soon to close on a purchase of a property a block away from the University to serve as a ‘Krishna House’

Detroit Ratha Yatra 2014

Hare KrishnaBy Lauren Abdel-Razzaq

On Saturday, the roads near Novi’s civic center and public library became a 2½-mile parade route for the divinities Lord Jagannath (Krishna), his brother Lord Balabhadra and his sister Devi Subhadra. The celebration in Novi is a scaled-down version of what took place in India at the end of June. Three chariots, each four times as high as the one in Novi, are pulled through the streets with close to a million attendees watching. Each deity gets its own chariot.

A whopping 150,000 downloads later, we feel this program was a success! Now that we have Srila Prabhupada’s English language books converted, we’re working diligently on all the languages the North European BBT publishes. And we’re beginning to upload other material to the site - audio books (the first volume of the Brhad-Bhagavatamrta is up, narrated by Kesava Bharati Maharaja along with a number of recordings of Srila Prabhupada’s books), podcasts, and BBT art images.

Lost paradise football

Hare KrishnaBy Patitapavana dasa

In the Srimad Bhagavatam lecture 1.7.16, Vrndavana, Srila Prabhupada explains that some fell down from playing football in Krishna-loka. “Just like spiritual atmosphere, Krsna’s friends, cowherd boys, they’re playing with Krsna. That is also playing. And here in this material world the boys they also play football play. But these two plays are different. One is spiritual and another is material…”

Calm the hungry and angry heart

Hare KrishnaBy Purushottam Kumar

Material attachment weakens our heart whilst spiritual affection strengthens it. Most of our material desires remain unfulfilled. And if somehow some gets fulfilled then soon we find that it does not give us same pleasure as we had expected and soon we get bored. This is why great minds in the past and holy scriptures have always spoken about the futility of material cravings. Then why to waste our invaluable life running after worldly things? Instead let us take a bold decision, step out from the material mindset and look towards Krishna.

New York City Hari Nam Report

By Abhiram Das

Ramaraya Prabhu has been valiantly singing the Holy Names of Krishna in Union Square Park for the last 2 and half years and has built up a team of steady team of devotees to help, so that we regularly have Hari Nam parties of 25 or more, every single day, without fail on the streets of New York City. When he began this yajna, things were not so easy; already in his mid-fifties, he started this with only a few devotees and had no financial support or even a place to stay. Today they stay in a brand new ISKCON Hari Nam Ashram, just 30 minutes from the center city and boast a team of 18 steady Hari Nam Warriors.
