Regulations for Commencing the Service of Diksa-guru in ISKCON

By the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

“Any person who is seriously desirous of achieving real happiness must seek out a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of a spiritual master is that he must have realized the conclusion of the scriptures by deliberation and arguments and thus be able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken complete shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, are to be understood as bona fide spiritual masters.” (SB 11.3.21 quoted in SB 4.29.55 purport)

For him, Back to Godhead was both the means and the end

By Chaitanya Charan das

Lokanath Swami: Baladeva Das was not just a tireless BTG distributor; he was also a prominent supporter and fundraiser for the Prabhupada Ghat project in Pandharpur and an active preacher in the Alandi-Pandharpur Dindi yatra (an annual mass pilgrimage of tens of thousands that lasts for nearly a fortnight). By his exemplary devotion, I am sure that he returned back to godhead.

Maintaining Steady Devotion during Unsteady Practice

By Dulal Chandra dasa

George Harrison’s lyrics to My Sweet Lord drew many to the path of Krsna Consciousness and also provide insight regarding states of mind conducive to steady advancement - patience and confidence. The advancing bhakta [sadhaka] must remain equipoised when confronted with the realization that meaningful spiritual advancement “takes so long” on the one hand, and fully confident that mercy is forthcoming through Krsna’s pure devotees, “it wont take long” on the other.

Iskcon Alachua’s Festival of Colors 2014 a grand success!

By Mukhya Devi Dasi

The Festival of Colors 2014 was a grand success with more people than last year and many more attendees from outside the devotee community coming over to play Holi. Devotees invited colleagues and friends; we networked extensively on Facebook; advertised on Google, in local print publications, press releases all over Florida and on radio, too. We borrowed friend’s mailing lists, and the word went around. We shared our community, chanting the maha mantra, prasadam, and Krisha consciousness with hundreds of people who had never even known we were tucked away in Alachua.

Anti Racism Demo Trafalgar Square London

By Parasuram Das

The dictionary informs us that racism “a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.”

Surrender

By Srila Prabhupada

If I am thinking, “I am suffering,” it is also Krsna’s grace. We should take like that. Even in my consideration, I am in a position which is apparently suffering, we must accept as Krsna’s grace: “All right, I have surrendered to Krsna. If Krsna is giving me suffering, that’s all right.” That is surrender. “Oh, I have surrendered to Krsna, and now Krsna is giving me suffering? Oh, leave Krsna consciousness.” That is not surrender. Surrender means in any condition you’ll remain surrendered.

Real Self or Iskcon Self

By Kesava Krsna Dasa

For instance, a ‘strict’ brahmacari gets into managerial positions and manages for the betterment of ISKCON, but in doing so also polarises a number of devotees and congregation members with his ‘take-it-or-leave-it approach. Later, the brahmacari is awarded the sannyasa order. At his sannyasa ceremony, he apologises for any hurt he might have caused. Would that apology be an institutional apology or a self-apology? It is an institutional apology. Are we to expect that this type of apology will absolve him of all offences committed on a personal self-level? In the meantime he might feel safe knowing he is ‘exonerated’, but Vaisnava realisations teach us that the offences will remain until they are forgiven on a person-to-person self-level.

Chant Hare Krishna—–No Loss

By Srila Prabhupada

So Narayana is so kind that consciously or unconsciously, if you chant the holy name of the Lord, it goes to your credit. Just like sometimes when you walk in the street, people say “Hare Krsna!” So this is also going to their credit. When they offer their respect to a Vaisnava, that goes to their credit. When one comes in this temple, offers his obeisances, it goes to their credit.

Massive Prasad Distribution in Brussels

By Parasuram Dasa

I was talking to one very respectable lady from Emerates, she was busy chopping vegetables for my subji. It was her first time to Europe, she was to attend some diplomat meetings and had only two days before returning home. She told me that she was loving the chopping service and this was a much more important way to spend her time. I could understand from this that the living entities are by nature servants of the Supreme, and real happiness can come from a simple thing like chopping veg.

“Back to Godhead” means Back to Godhead

By Sita Rama dasa

The original home of the living entity and the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the spiritual world. In the spiritual world both the Lord and the living entities live together very peacefully. Since the living entity remains engaged in the service of the Lord, they both share a blissful life in the spiritual world. However, when the living entity, misusing his tiny independence, wants to enjoy himself, he falls down into the material world

Understanding the difference between science and scientism

By Chaitanya Charan das

Consider the experience of seeing a beautiful sunset. We can directly experience the beauty of the sunset. But can any scientific experiment measure that beauty? Science could perhaps measure some parameters like the intensity of the sunlight, but such measurements would do little to convey or explain the actual experience of the beauty.

Sri Sri Tota Gopinatha Temple And Sri Gadadhara Pandita

By Chandan Yatra Das

Sri Tota Gopinatha is exquisitely beautiful self-manifested Deity of Lord Sri Krishna. Sri Tota Gopinatha is also a most unique Deity because He is the only Krishna Deity in the world “sitting down” and playing His flute. Sri Tota Gopinatha has such a charismatic bewitching quality that draws one to His darshana over and over again. Srila Vrindavana Thakura extols His power: “Even an extreme atheist will be changed upon seeing the Deity of Gopinatha.”

What is the difference between the past ages and the present age?

By Chaitanya Charan das

Lord Chaitanya, the Kali-yuga incarnation of Krishna, inaugurated this golden age and Srila Prabhupada expanded its golden influence all over the world by his tireless outreach efforts. Each one of us has the fortune to receive and share this divine legacy and thereby become models and messengers of integrity amidst this age of perversity.

The subject of Vaisnavis initiating in ISKCON is further tabled until additional discussion at the 2014 GBC Midterm Meeting. In the meantime the GBC Eexecutive Committee will work on the following process:
1. Creating a committee of devotees who have no pre-determined view on this topic who will gather documents from all sources on the subject of female diksa-gurus.
2. The committee will sort, summarize, and categorize all documentation. Categories could include Srila Prabhupada’s quotations, varnasrama-dharma, history within our sampradaya and other Vaisnava sampradayas, etc.

Lenin would be proud of us!

By Ghanashyam das

On wednesday as part of our initiative to distribute prasadam at least once a week to the residents Navadwipa we set out to the village on the other side of the Jalangi river named Lenin colony. West Bengal for so many years was governed by the communist party hence the reference to one of its icons - Lenin. Not sure if he ever had piping hot kitchari for lunch but all the residents of the village named after him certainly relished it with great enthusiasm.
