ISKCON GBC Executive Committee’s Letter to Ukrainian Devotee Refugees

Hare KrishnaBy the GBC Executive Committee

On behalf of the Governing Body Commission of ISKCON, please accept our prayers to Lord Krishna for your protection, as well as our deepest affection and concern for your well being. We are following the events in Ukraine in the media with heavy hearts. We have heard directly from Niranjana Maharaja about some of the great challenges, dangers and threats that you have undergone. By the Lord’s mercy many of you have survived close encounters with bomb blasts, militia attacks, and other terrible effects of living with war at your doorsteps. We know that the leaders of ISKCON in Ukraine are doing all that they can to assist you and to offer you spiritual guidance in this difficult time. Many of you have relocated, and have had to leave behind your homes, jobs and temple communities.

Gold Euphoria In Indonesia!

By Bhakti Raghava Swami

One devotee from Bali became so inspired that he committed for 16 Golden Bricks on the spot and paid the full US $ 26,930 the next day. This inspired others to also come forward to make their pledges and payments. As we went from temple to temple in Bali, we also distributed the Rs. 1,000 ToVP Currency Notes. Our first temple program in Klung Kung scored 18 notes, in Gianyar, 9, in Singaraja 28, in Radha Gopinath an astounding 124, in Radha Raseavara, 23, in Jagannath Gauranga, the last 20 notes we had. We exhausted all the ToVP Currency Notes we had.

My First Puri Rathayatra

By Deena Bandhu dasa

The next day was Gundicha Marjana. Many times I have cleaned the temple from top to bottom in whatever temple I was in. But today we all went to do Gundicha Marjana at the very site where Lord Chaitanya had personally done it five hundred years before. We were all very excited. Unfortunately, they don’t allow foreigners inside. So I told Bhadra Charu Prabhu, a very nice devotee who was in charge, to get me a couple of baskets so we could at least clean the front entrance. All around the entrance they were selling brooms and clay pots, but no baskets. But somehow he got a couple.

The Chorus Of One-siders

By Kesava Krsna Dasa

It is known that Srila Prabhupada was not fond of ambiguities like “maybe, perhaps, could be…” and so on, and we often follow suit to express ourselves in absolutist terms, convinced of our infallible statements. The problem with this is that in the face of Srila Prabhupada’s varied and nuanced teachings our utmost one-sided certainties can expose us as certain and total fools who actually expose our political and biased natures.

Waves of Sankirtana

By Sri Ramadasa

Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur, The Seventh Goswami, pioneered the spread of Lord Chaitanya’s teachings in the West, sending copies of his works to Ralph Waldo Emerson in the USA and to Reinhold Rost in Europe in 1880. He is the first acarya in our sampradaya to propagate the waves of the nectarean ocean of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s unparalleled divine mission to places outside India. Following in his lead, His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada had translated, printed, and published volumes of sastras to propagate the mission of Lord Chaitanya throughout the world.

We Are Their Good Fortune!

By Parasuram das

Once on a morning walk in St James’ Park in London (1972/3) after passing a hippy sleeping on a park bench, Srila Prabhupada said “By good fortune they can all come to Krsna Consciousness”
Wishing to understand further what His Divine Grace meant by ‘good fortune’ I said: “Srila Prabhupada, we understand from your books and teachings that nothing happens by chance, can you please explain what you mean by ‘good fortune’ After walking on for about a minute, all of a sudden Srila Prabhupada stopped, turned and looked me directly in the face, and stated firmly: “We are their good fortune”

Tamala…

By Deena Bandhu Das

No one imagined our beautiful stout tamala tree would leave us so soon, but one day he fell to the ground and was gone. No one could imagine that our Tamala would leave us so soon, but one day he left us in the Holy Dhama and was gone. Now we sit here and weep with only memories of our Tamalas to keep us alive.

Importance of Bhagavad-gita in This Day and Age

By Sri Nandanandana dasa

Besides being the classic Eastern text that it is, and the summary of most Upanishadic information, it is the core of the deepest levels of spiritual knowledge. It is also like a handbook for life. Just as when you purchase an appliance of some kind, like a refrigerator, television or computer, you get a manual that teaches you how to use it. So in the same way, if God created this world and put us here, doesn’t it seem that He should also tell us what is the purpose of this life and how to use it accordingly?

My Initial Response to the Concerns of HH Bhakti Vikash Swami

By Mahatma das

I welcome the opposition and the opportunity to discuss issues of male/female relationships because in Iskcon, our marriage tract record is not good and if our discussion can help improve our marriages, then such discussion is welcome. So I am glad to have raised a few eyebrows and that I thus received the opportunity to address, in depth, the roles of men and women and their effects on marriage.

The Glories of Ratha Yatra

By Jagannath Das

When Srila Prabhupada was five years old, he desired to hold a Ratha Yatra festival like the one held annually in Jagannatha Puri, attended by millions. When he heard his father could not afford a new wooden ratha, he began to cry. This attracted the attention of a passing Bengali women who kindly let him buy her old ratha. Srila Prabhupada enlisted the help of the neighbourhood children and their mothers in an elaborate eight-day spiritual festival that he continued annually during his boyhood. This same festival would eventually be established by Srila Prabhupada on five continents.

Bonfire Kirtan… a humble effort

By Gadi das

We have been fortunate at Murari ‘s Kirtan Valley to have the opportunity, through kirtan, to make friendship with many spiritually oriented people from the Nashville area. This unique event, the idea to appeal to our western born countrymen, was, even for our first of many bonfire kirtans, a great success. We were visited by no less than 40 guests throughout the day.

Japa Affirmations

By Mahatma das

I happily and enthusiastically welcome the holy names every japa session. I easily chant my prescribed number of rounds with focus and attention. When I chant, I chant. I get to chant, I want to chant, and I love to chant. I treat the maha-mantra as Radha and Krsna, fully present in sound. I receive and feel Krsna’s presence, mercy and love in His holy names. I chant in full awareness that the holy name is my greatest treasure.

‘Whose Fault is Divorce?’: Mahatma Prabhu’s Response to Bhakti Vikasa Swami, Part 2

By Mahatma das

Prabhupada says that generally divorce is the woman’s fault. Chastity is one of a woman’s most important virtues, so husband and wife should not divorce. The premise of my article ‘Husband as Guru’ was that men are rarely entirely innocent. Some said this contradicts Prabhupada. I still stand by my statement. Yet, I do not agree I have contradicted Prabhupada, for by saying “generally,” Prabhupada doesn’t deny that men can have their share of responsibility in a divorce.

I am going to get run over by Lord Jagannath!

By Bhaktin Jessica

When the idea of going to the NY Ratha Yatra was brought up in an email by a devotee from my local temple it was met with the realization that I really had no expectation of ever being able to attend it. It appeared to be a logistically impossible endeavor as all sorts of various factors seemed to get in the way of going. Just getting to the temple in the morning to catch the bus was a problem considering the fact that my husband and I have only one working car at the moment.
