Gold from a ‘dirty’ place – the football field

Hare KrishnaBy Praghosa dasa

I recently read a letter which was eloquently penned by Bhakti Charu Maharaja which really struck me, so much so, I became inspired to write a few words about it. It struck me for a couple reasons, one the simple essence of Maharaja’s letter being the glorification of other devotees, which is always an inspirational meditation to see in action, one devotee glorifying other devotees. The other aspect that I found equally, if not more eye-catching, was an analogy that Maharaja used.

Hare KrishnaBy Gadhadara das

Devotees along with Lord Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra arrived from Hare Krishna Centre, Medan, a day ahead of the festival at Binjai to make the necessary arrangements. The festival was arranged at the Mariaman (Mother Durga) Temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples at the heart of Binjai City. The stage had been prepared; the chariot was going through final adjustments; the devotees, around fifteen to twenty, were eagerly making arrangements for prasadam, bhoga offerings and decorations. So many fruits were placed on the chariot for decoration as well as for distribution.

Ukraine refugee relief effort: The focus moves to Russia

Hare KrishnaBy Niranjana Swami

By Lord Krishna’s grace, the first phase of our refugee relief effort in Ukraine has been very successful in transporting, securing, and sheltering the lives of over two hundred of His devotees, including a large number of children. Ukrainian leaders managed to relocate and accommodate the refugees’ families, provide adults with temporary or permanent employment and single mothers with adequate maintenance for them and their dependent children. Unfortunately, due to disrupted communications in areas of combat, we cannot provide an exact number.

I’m a qualified accountant, I work in Croydon at the Home Office, and people there call me Ash but at the Hare Krishna temple I’m Acyuta. I got involved with the Hare Krishna movement in my last year of uni about 10 years ago. A few monks came down, and gave a class on karma and why bad things happen to good people, and I found answers I had been looking for. I was initiated in 2007, and given a baptism name: Acyuta Charan Das.

Krishna Lunch Forever Strengthens Ties with University of Florida

Hare KrishnaBy Bhaktin Amy

As most devotees can attest to, not every town receives its local Hare Krishna community with arms wide open. But through Srila Prabhupada’s plan, Gainesville has proven itself to be incredibly favorable. A quiet college town, Gainesville welcomed the University of Florida (and its 102 students) in 1906. Today, UF is known as one of the nation’s top universities, enrolling 50,000 students, many of which have heard the Holy Name, associated with devotees, and taken prasadam on the UF campus since 1971. Krishna Lunch is an integral part of the student experience at UF with students being introduced to Krishna Lunch during official campus tours and alumni reminded of Krishna Lunch in alumni magazine.

Reject the high cost of milk in Cow protection

Hare KrishnaBy Dusyanta dasa

The differences between milk produced in a modern conventional setting and a cow protection project are diametric opposites. They could not be further away from each other even if they tried. And the idea of paying money in a cow protection herd for milk that they produce is one of the reasons that cow protection does not work. If we try to mix up the way modern day dairy herds operate by making money and turning milk production into a type of business then we have misunderstood the holistic principles of cow protection.

On behalf of the Governing Body Commission of ISKCON, please accept our prayers to Lord Krishna for your protection, as well as our deepest affection and concern for your well being. We are following the events in Ukraine in the media with heavy hearts. We have heard directly from Niranjana Maharaja about some of the great challenges, dangers and threats that you have undergone. We know that the leaders of ISKCON in Ukraine are doing all that they can to assist you and to offer you spiritual guidance in this difficult time. Many of you have relocated, and have had to leave behind your homes, jobs and temple communities.

News from the Bhakti Yoga Club at Washington University in St. Louis

Hare KrishnaBy Jaya Subhadra Devi Dasi

For the first few years the average attendance was less than 5 students, generally just 1 or 2 students would participate in the weekly events. In recent years, however, the attendance has grown significantly to where 10 or more students participate on average. Weekly yoga sessions were added that helped to bring in more students to the core program of hearing, chanting and honoring of Krishna Prasadam. The St. Louis temple is soon to close on a purchase of a property a block away from the University to serve as a ‘Krishna House’

Essentially, he is the instructing spiritual master for everyone within ISKCON.

Hell’s Angels

Hare KrishnaBy Prabhupada priya devi dasi

On one of Srila Prabhupada’s visits to London, a young women had inquired, “Srila Prabhupada, do they preach Bhagavad-gita in Hell?” His face was serious as he replied with a rhetorical question, “This London is not Hell?” The woman was puzzled and thought perhaps Srila Prabhupada had not understood her question so she repeated it. Srila Prabhupada responded even more emphatically, “I am saying, this London is not Hell?”

Appreciation of Madhudvisa Das by the ISKCON GBC Executive Committee

Hare KrishnaBy ISKCON GBC Executive Committee

On behalf of the ISKCON Governing Body Commission and the entire International Society for Krishna Consciousness we, the Executive Committee of the GBC, join the chorus of tributes from around the world to honor His Grace Madhudvisa Prabhu, who departed from this world on August 5, 2014. Madhudvisa Prabhu was one of the earliest disciples of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada and immediately applied his enthusiastic nature to the Sankirtana Movement. As a prominent figure of the original Hari-nama sankirtana groups of devotees in the United States, he would often lead the public chanting and would play the drum for up to ten hours daily. Later, after being chosen by Srila Prabhupada to accompany him when he first toured India with his Western disciples, Srila Prabhupada appreciated his contributions and named him the “Emperor of Sankirtana” [or “kirtan-samart” - the monarch of kirtans].

A Thousand Lectures on the Absolute Truth

Hare KrishnaBy Indradyumna Swami

“Last year,” the young man continued, “I went to Woodstock and met you people there. I went to the Questions and Answers tent and listened attentively. Suddenly I had all the answers to the questions of life that I had been asking. It was as if a light had been turned on. Seriously. I wanted to buy the book that the speaker was quoting from, the Bhagavad Gita, but I had no money. I have been waiting all year to buy the Bhagavad Gita. I was so surprised to find you people in town today. In fact I just walked into this festival by chance.”

My dear Godbrother Madhu-dvisa Prabhu

Hare KrishnaBy Hridayananda das Goswami

One evening, the Berkeley devotees were on the third floor of our center, chanting in the temple room. Suddenly the house began to shake as if there was an earthquake. Our president asked me to go downstairs and see what was happening. I found the cause: Madhu-dvisa Prabhu and the all-brahmacari San Francisco temple had come to visit us and they were doing kirtana downstairs. Among these devotees was the famous Jayananda. The kirtana, led by Madhu-dvisa, was literally shaking a three story house.

The annual festival organised by ISKCON is the second largest festival of this type in country and has been running for 17 years. For the first time in its history the festival began at the newly acquired Hare Krishna Centre on Granby Street. To start off the procession Sir Peter Soulsby and community leaders smashed coconuts.

Montly Sankirtana Festival (MSF) of Get Sets & GO @ ISV

Hare KrishnaBy Balimardana Dasa

It is not by working hard or by accumulating wealth that one may find satisfaction in this life or the next. Rather, it is one’s purity of purpose and diligence in repeating the transcendental mantra received from the bona fide spiritual master that fulfills all of one’s desires. “O Brahma, do thou practice spiritual association by means of this mantra; then all your desires will be fulfilled.” Sri Brahma-samhita 5.25

An Appointment with Mr. Death

Hare KrishnaBy Vraja Vihari Dasa

As the evening arati started and the deities were greeted amidst loud chanting and the blowing of conch shells, indicating auspiciousness, Rohini Tanaya cast his last loving glance at the devotees and, while prayerfully looking upon the deities, departed from his body. Devotees cried and rejoiced simultaneously, for this was an extraordinary, inspirational departure. Devotees had witnessed that Krishna consciousness is not simply a theory but a practical science. Rohini Tanaya had just shown by his example how a devotee fixed in Krishna consciousness receives Mr. Death cheerfully

Black Holes And Gaping Mouths

Hare KrishnaBy Kesava Krsna Dasa

The famed Time Machine is now a serious inevitability, according to many. One scientist says that he wants to go back to the past to see his deceased father and possibly help him with present-day medicine. If Krishna says that He is Time and is the destroyer of all things, including our karma, then what type of power or technology can oppose this? Going back into the past means to undo karma and to undo history.
