Regulations for Commencing the Service of Diksa-guru in ISKCON

By the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

“Any person who is seriously desirous of achieving real happiness must seek out a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of a spiritual master is that he must have realized the conclusion of the scriptures by deliberation and arguments and thus be able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken complete shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, are to be understood as bona fide spiritual masters.” (SB 11.3.21 quoted in SB 4.29.55 purport)

Govindas at college campus

By Premanjana Das

Govindas offers a rich menu for a fair price. Available is a variety of the traditional South Indian cuisine, such as dosas, vada, idli, samosas, vada-pao, different kinds of rice dishes, sandwiches, mixed in with some Chinese preparations. To complement the meals a nice selection of juices and milk-shakes are served. Govindas obtains their milk from the ‘Nareshwadi cow farm’ which is located in Palghar. Not to forget, Lord Jagannath likes His sweets to complete a satisfying meal. A full fledged combo will only cost you a whooping Rs. 45!

On this page is the personal data and the devotional history of the present sannyasa candidates. If you know any of these candidates and would like to express something positive or negative pertaining to their candidacy to the Sannyasa Committee, please send us your comments via the comments page of the website

Trained up to think of Kṛṣṇa twenty-four hours

By Srila Prabhupada

Generally, we work for our sense gratification. “I have got this money. I must use for my sense gratification or for my relative’s sense gratification or for my country’s sense gratification, for my society’s sense gratification.” So this is materialism. But when the same thing is turned for Kṛṣṇa’s sense gratification, that is spiritual. That is the difference between prema and kāma.

Reality, Poetry, Consciousness, Enlightenment, Metaphor and Srimad-Bhagavatam

By Akruranatha Dasa

In Srimad-Bhagavatam culture, there is not such a breakdown between prosaic reality and poetic metaphor. Actual reality is far more enchanted and magical and strange than our modern scientific, mechanistic, deracinated conception. Things that we think of as concepts — like fear, love, intelligence, decay and so on — are actually living beings who can interact with other, similar beings. The universe is full of demons, demigods, ghosts, goblins, sages, yogis, siddhas, gandharvas, caranas, apsaras, humans, animals, plants, and all kinds of mystical beings.

Lord Krishna is known as Rasraja Krishna. Rasaraja Krishna means He is made up of mellows. The ingredients used to create Krishna’s body is made up of sweetness. This is Rasaraja Krishna. And Srimati Radharani is mahabhava svarupini, is made up of Krishna prema. Krishna is made up of sweetness mellows and Radharani is made up of Krishna prema.

Isn’t it better to be spiritual instead of being religious?

By Chaitanya Charan das

Religion without philosophy is sometimes fanaticism: Just as people can be healed by different treatments, people can become lovers of God by practicing different religions: Christianity, Islam and Hinduism, for example. The decisive test for a religion is whether it enables its followers to become spiritually healthy, to become lovers of God. In this light, religious fanatics are like narrow-minded proponents of a particular medical therapy who are ready to destroy the books and the infrastructure associated with other therapies.

Please help this project for the Health and Welfare Ministry

By Prahladananda Swami

I am writing to seek help with a project for the Health and Welfare Ministry. Over a year ago I wrote a book that contains two parts. The first part is a complication of all the instructions that I could find about Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on health for ISKCON devotees. The second part is comprised of different articles I have written about health. I have not been able to find a devotee who would be able to layout the book and therefore it has not yet been published.

Prasad Distribution in the “Land of saints and scholars”

By Parasuram das

Last week we took on the challenge of cooking subji and popperdoms for 5,000 people in Cork city. Our team consisted of Dharmatma Prabhu, Sanaka Prabhu, and Achintya Rupa Prabhu. Srila Prabhupada says in the Srimad Bhagavatam: “The Krishna consciousness movement is based on this principle: chant the Hare Krishna mantra every moment,as much as possible, both inside and outside of the temple, and, as far as possible, distribute prasad. This process can be accelerated with the cooperation of state administrators and those who are producing the country’s wealth. Simply by liberal distribution of prasad and sankirtana, the whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.”

Prabhupada said that. Prabhupada said at the end of one class, to go back to Godhead you have to be 100% pure, all the devotees were like - me, 100% pure, don’t know about that! And Prabhupada noticed and said, at least 90%. And devotees were still - leaves me out. Prabhupada said at least 80%. Still it was the same. And Prabhupada said just take hold of my dhoti and I will take you back, I have the key to the back door. (haribol)
