Plans for Increasing Book Distribution

By the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

While ISKCON, the GBC, and the BBT are independent entities and thus the GBC cannot instruct the BBT trustees, the GBC humbly appeals to the BBT trustees to kindly get involved in pushing this process forward and making sure that the development of these plans actually happens. The Indian BBT and Indian GBCs are exempted from this resolution as they are already doing such powerful book distribution. Of course, they are welcomed and encouraged to present a plan for the coming year if they wish.

By Dulal Chandra Dasa

This seventh verse from the 2nd cloudbank of Sri Visvanatha Cakravarti’s Madhurya Kadambini delineates two kinds of devotional service, the unsteady practice [anistha] of one just beginning and the steady practice [nistha] of one who has attained eligibility to easily tread the path of sadhana bhakti by prolonged and steadfast practice.

A day of music with the Krishnas

A few seconds into the event and I already feel right at home. The Krishna family have done it again; made a journey of self-discovery the most entertaining highlight of your week. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) are colloquially known as the Krishnas. The presence of the Krishnas on campus is more than welcome; the Krishnas are pleasant and friendly, the constant chanting’s lyrics are calming, and their vegetarian dishes are renowned for being especially delicious, even to regular meat-loving omnivores. However, the 12-Hour Kirtan Music Festival lunch and dinner feast was truly a sight to behold, a wonder to taste, and, as for the music, phenomenal to hear.

Theistic interpretations of empirical observation

By Jaganmohini Devi Dasi

When one studies the life and works of several prominent scientists, such as Newton, Planck, Pasteur, Einstein and Schrödinger, one discovers that they were inclined towards spirituality in comprehending their worldview of nature and reality. Their reflections are thus great assets to the works of Bhaktivedanta Institute that focuses on ‘Theistic interpretation of empirical observation’.

Sri Krishna Chaitanya (Gauranga) Mahaprabhu - Appearance

By Srila Bhaktivinod Thakura

I know no one but Krsna as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He handles me roughly by His embrace or makes me brokenhearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything, for He is always my worshipful Lord, unconditionally.

International Women’s Day, March 2014

By Parasuram das

A disciple of a prominent spiritual leader once said to Srila Prabhupada. “My spiritual master said to avoid women and never go where there are women”. Srila Prabhupada laughed and said “that’s impossible, there are women everywhere”. Then coming back to the temple and watching two women devotees bow down to him, he said,” by associating with these women, you will be purified”.

Trained up to think of Kṛṣṇa twenty-four hours

By Srila Prabhupada

Generally, we work for our sense gratification. “I have got this money. I must use for my sense gratification or for my relative’s sense gratification or for my country’s sense gratification, for my society’s sense gratification.” So this is materialism. But when the same thing is turned for Kṛṣṇa’s sense gratification, that is spiritual. That is the difference between prema and kāma.

Reality, Poetry, Consciousness, Enlightenment, Metaphor and Srimad-Bhagavatam

By Akruranatha Dasa

In Srimad-Bhagavatam culture, there is not such a breakdown between prosaic reality and poetic metaphor. Actual reality is far more enchanted and magical and strange than our modern scientific, mechanistic, deracinated conception. Things that we think of as concepts — like fear, love, intelligence, decay and so on — are actually living beings who can interact with other, similar beings. The universe is full of demons, demigods, ghosts, goblins, sages, yogis, siddhas, gandharvas, caranas, apsaras, humans, animals, plants, and all kinds of mystical beings.

From Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir! HH Bhakti Purusottama Swami

By Bhakti Purusottama Swami

Lord Krishna is known as Rasraja Krishna. Rasaraja Krishna means He is made up of mellows. The ingredients used to create Krishna’s body is made up of sweetness. This is Rasaraja Krishna. And Srimati Radharani is mahabhava svarupini, is made up of Krishna prema. Krishna is made up of sweetness mellows and Radharani is made up of Krishna prema.

Isn’t it better to be spiritual instead of being religious?

By Chaitanya Charan das

Religion without philosophy is sometimes fanaticism: Just as people can be healed by different treatments, people can become lovers of God by practicing different religions: Christianity, Islam and Hinduism, for example. The decisive test for a religion is whether it enables its followers to become spiritually healthy, to become lovers of God. In this light, religious fanatics are like narrow-minded proponents of a particular medical therapy who are ready to destroy the books and the infrastructure associated with other therapies.

Please help this project for the Health and Welfare Ministry

By Prahladananda Swami

I am writing to seek help with a project for the Health and Welfare Ministry. Over a year ago I wrote a book that contains two parts. The first part is a complication of all the instructions that I could find about Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on health for ISKCON devotees. The second part is comprised of different articles I have written about health. I have not been able to find a devotee who would be able to layout the book and therefore it has not yet been published.

Maintaining Steady Devotion during Unsteady Practice (the Psychological Stages of Spiritual Advancement)

By Dulal Chandra Dasa

While treading the path of sadhana-bhakti, scorching rays of contrary mentalities burn in our head; our feet stumble on pebbles of misconception; thorny bushes of material desire obstruct our passage. Although our mind screams with good reason to retreat, we somehow push on. Stumbling to the ground we notice something shimmering on the roadway. Reaching out we grasp a polished gemstone - Is this meant for me? Suddenly the entire pathway is paved with such gemstones, fragrant flowers line our path and a cloud bank of amazing sweetness shades us. How magical. How has this happened? Who has manifested this mystical oasis?
