Plans for Increasing Book Distribution

By the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

While ISKCON, the GBC, and the BBT are independent entities and thus the GBC cannot instruct the BBT trustees, the GBC humbly appeals to the BBT trustees to kindly get involved in pushing this process forward and making sure that the development of these plans actually happens. The Indian BBT and Indian GBCs are exempted from this resolution as they are already doing such powerful book distribution. Of course, they are welcomed and encouraged to present a plan for the coming year if they wish.

Somehow or the other Prabhupada gave association to his devotees, and these devotees gave association to their devotees. These devotees gave association to other devotees. By this, mercy is coming down in the disciplic succession. And whoever is jijnasu, whoever is really interested, whoever is the real human being, whoever is really tatva jijnasu, they can achieve the merit, the benefit of this association-by getting books, by getting prasad, by hearing kirtan, by doing parikrama, from many other ways. But unless you come in contact with these devotees, how will we make our life success?

Harinam at the foot of Big Ben in London

By Vicaru Das

Chanting at the foot of Westminster’s Big Ben clock tower certainly draws the international tourists.

Sri Sri Radha Londonisvara are so kind to place us right on the high street one of the worlds most famous cities. From here we can inundate the whole world with the trancendental mellows of Krishna’s Holy Names. In order to fulfill a desire of Srila Prabhupada a New Temple is being designed to give a permanent home to Their Lordships in London. The Radha Krishna deities presently at 10 soho Street were the first Radha Krishna deities to be installed in the Hare Krishna movement that Srila Prabhupada brought to the west.

Statement of HH Bhakti Vijnana Swami on the latest developments in Ukraine

I would like to say a few words about the situation in Ukraine and in Russia. With great pain, anxiety and excitement I’ve been watching how the situation develops, and feel the need to call upon all the Vaishnavas to ensure that discussing this conflict, we remembered about the basic, fundamental provisions of the Vaishnava philosophy.

Srila Prabhupada wanted this land in Mayapur, but so many people failed to try to get anything because there was so much opposition. So he turned to Tamal Krsna Goswami, ‘get me this land’! So it took a long time and when he finally came back to Calcutta with the deed, it was late at night, Srila Prabhupada did not go to sleep, he was so concerned, he was just sitting, waiting. The light was on. Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaja came in and said “Prabhupada, you have the land!” In Mayapur dhama, here is the deed. Srila Prabhupada with tears in his eyes embraced Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaja, thank you very much.

Reflections on the Older Brother

By Giriraj Swami

HH Tamal Krishna Goswami played the role of the older brother to so many godbrothers and godsisters in ISKCON, and he played it exceedingly well. He was loving, caring, expert, and resourceful in many, many ways. He could give expert advice and practical support on the physical plane—medical, architectural, financial; on the emotional plane—psychological, social, marital; and on the spiritual plane—chanting japa, singing bhajanas and kirtana, studying and teaching sastra, associating with devotees, worshiping deities, going on parikrama, preaching, distributing books, writing books, engaging different kinds of people, and so much more.

Mahabharata & Our Generational Challenge

By Sankirtana Das

In 2012-13, as I was bringing my book – Mahabharata: The Eternal Quest - to completion, I kept asking myself: what about the Mahabharata would be most relevant to today’s readers. The book has endured for thousands of years. It’s revered by millions of Hindus all over the world. But what does it have to say to anyone else? Is Mahabharata just for Hindus or does it have a place in world literature, or in the very fabric of our diverse cultures?

Humans of Krishna Lunch Project Gains Attention from University Community

By Amy Hollis

Two or three times a week, I take a break from serving Krishna Lunch prasad and approach a student who is enjoying their Krishna Lunch. Camera phone in hand, I take their picture and record our five minute conversation as I ask them, “When was the first time you had Krishna Lunch?” or, “Why do you come every day?” or, “What do your friends think of it?” And then I listen as they praise Krishna’s remnants, usually having to stop them when they’ve gone on too long.

Now we are going to hear how the Lord actually feels about us. Each and every one of us. The Supreme lord said: “Welcome, welcome my dear boy. I am fortunate, most fortunate to meet you here. For so long I have been eager to see you. My dear friend you have passed many lifetimes without paying any attention to me at all. So I transgressed my eternal code of conduct and arranged for you to take your current birth”. That birth was in Govardhan.

Sinhalese Preaching Breakthrough in Sri Lanka

By Kodandarama Dasa

Just a few years ago, when the civil war between Sinhalese (Buddhist) and Tamils was raging, nobody would imagine that a Hare Krishna program would be held in the heart of Buddhist culture in Kandy. At the beginning we were little skeptical but later on when more than 500 hundred people joined our nagara-sanirtana all anxiety went away. Finally around 2500 people participated in the program.

The encouraging, more encouraging and most encouraging messages of the Gita

By Chaitanya Charan das

“I am my worst enemy.” Some of us may have felt like this when we came under the grip of sudden, irrational impulses, and spoke and acted in ways that hurt others or ourselves or both. We make plans and efforts to change our illogical, uncongenial behavior, yet the heat of the moment often overpowers us. When we repeatedly succumb to the same self-defeating behavior, we may become possessed by the gloomy thought: “Maybe this is just the way I am; maybe this is my unchangeable nature.”

The Glories of the ToVP: HH Jayapataka Swami

Prabhupada at that time mentioned that how each previous acaraya had done something for Mayapur dhama. Then Prabhupada he mentioned that he also was trying to do something for the dhama. And he had predicted that there would be a temple here and he wanted to be sure that he started it. So actually in 1977, he laid another foundation stone for the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium. And that time he was weak and so he sent someone else, he took the Ananta Sesa in his hand and gave it to one disciple to put it into the pit. So he actually laid the stone for the foundation of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium.

I recall one incidence when some individual was challenging Srila Prabhupada, ‘Why are you building these temples?’ This was soon after Vrindavana temple was opened, Krishna Balarama temple was opened. It was actually in 1977 in Hrisikesh Kumbha Mela. This person was questioning Srila Prabhupada, asking Srila Prabhupada in a rather challenging way, “Why are you building new temples when there are so many temples, old temples needing renovation?”

Bhakti is about knowing the heart of Krishna, knowing what is there in the heart of Krishna. Because this is the only thing which will please Krishna. If we do something which is against the heart or the intention of Krishna it will not be pleasing to Krishna. And bhakti as we know is anukulyena krsnanusilanam. This is the essence of bhakti, anyabhilasita sunyam.

So,in our process we have everything. We have the acts of surrender and we have the philosophy. We have knowledge. Sometimes Prabhupada would say, if you just chant Hare Krishna that’s sufficient. And if you want to understand from a philosophical point of view, we have so many books to convince you. Either way. It’s not that everybody is necessarily philosophical minded. Although at least those who take initiation they should try to be, even if they are not necessarily philosophically inclined, they should try to become that way. And so they’ll read Prabhupadas books. That will help them tremendously.

I myself have personally given birth to 10 children: 5 boys and 5 girls. And I have to tell you, at the birth of each of my children, I personally offered them at the lotus feet of Prabhupada. And every single one of those children have helped me to surrender more to the lotus feet of Sri Sri Radha Krishna. Because I knew that I was totally helpless to take care of this person, I was totally helpless to give them Krishna consciousness and that I had to be totally dependent on Prabhupada and Radha Bankabihari, my istadev, to do the work for them, and caused me to surrender and always be prayerful. So, yes having children was a burden and a challenge but I wouldn’t trade it for anything, because it is those children that help me now to appreciate Krishna consciousness more. It is those children that are my offering to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada.

In a couple of years 2016, we will be celebrating a very important event. What is that event? ISKCON’s 50th anniversary. That’s a very very big deal and if we all join together and make that an emphasis along with the other services we have, we are going to be getting a lot of attention from the governments, the media, from religious leaders. They are going to look at us more and more and they are going to expect more and more from us. So we should be careful to think and to look and to do everything we can, will we be up to the task of showing them an example and of representing Srila Prabhupada and Lord Caitanya. That’s not a cheap thing.

“My devotee only asks for one thing, let me serve You! So therefore, how can I give him anything, he doesn’t want? But still I must give him something. I must give him something which is valuable. Something which he’ll appreciate or value. Something that will mean something for him. He doesn’t want wealth. He doesn’t want follower. He doesn’t want beautiful women. He doesn’t want anything from me. But let me give him something that he’ll accept. So what do I give him. I give him My heart. My devotee has my heart. And you are asking me have a heart! And I am saying, I am sorry. I don’t have one. I can’t even think. My devotee has My mind, he has My heart. You want My heart, You have to go to him”.

The Advent of Pancha-tattva in Sri Mayapur Dham Feb 21st-23rd, 2004 - living again the bliss of Their appearance!

By the Hare Krishna Today Magazine

Models of the Pancha-tattva were made after researching the scriptures on the exact dimensions, proportions and qualities of each member, who were made in accordance to the descriptions found. It was decided that each deity should have an individual pose. Thus each is holding His hands differently. Lord Chaitanya with His hands wide open worships Lord Krishna to teach all the conditioned souls how to take shelter of Him.

Ramachandra went to the ocean. So He wanted to test, “by writing My name stone is floating. If I put a stone what is happening?” Ramachandra picked up a stone and threw it in the ocean and the stone drowned into the ocean. And Hanuman, clapping from behind, “Oh My Lord, now You understand. You are testing Your power. But see, Your Holy Name is more powerful than You. You threw the stone, the stone drowned. But when we are writing Your name, the stone is floating”.

A Golden Brick for the Golden Avatar!

By Radha Jivan das

This year is very special since it is the 10th anniversary of the installation of Pancha tattva. There will be a maha abhishek performed on March 3rd which commences every 5 years. We are offering 1008 Golden bricks with the names of the sponsors engraved on them which will be put on the platform of Mahaprabhu’s altar in the new temple which is now under construction. These are limited to 1008 and many devotees who have come for the festival are sponsoring these bricks as a donation towards the construction of the new Temple.

It is very challenging to be a servant, to have the mood of the servant and also adopt the mood of a leader. Sometimes we think, they are both anathema, they don’t go together. In the world, people are all wanting to be leaders. They want to enjoy lordship. They want to enjoy mastership. They want to lord over people and many of them they do that for the sake of getting a subtle happy thrill of being able to control others and whatever servant leadership or whatever they may advocate, ultimately it is meant for them to enjoy leadership. But actually servant leadership as Prabhupada has mentioned here is sacrifice, is about giving yourself to others. First be a servant and leadership follows as a byproduct of it.

In one morning walk, Srila Prabhupada said that our worship of Radha-Krishna is our own private business, but actually, in terms of preaching, our business is to dismantle the materialistic philosophy, such as evolution, which the material scientists have actually bewildered the whole world with. And this Temple of the Vedic Planetarium is the emblem of the instrument which is meant to achieve that.
