Regulations for Commencing the Service of Diksa-guru in ISKCON

By the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

“Any person who is seriously desirous of achieving real happiness must seek out a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of a spiritual master is that he must have realized the conclusion of the scriptures by deliberation and arguments and thus be able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken complete shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, are to be understood as bona fide spiritual masters.” (SB 11.3.21 quoted in SB 4.29.55 purport)

A Golden Brick for the Golden Avatar!

By Radha Jivan das

This year is very special since it is the 10th anniversary of the installation of Pancha tattva. There will be a maha abhishek performed on March 3rd which commences every 5 years. We are offering 1008 Golden bricks with the names of the sponsors engraved on them which will be put on the platform of Mahaprabhu’s altar in the new temple which is now under construction. These are limited to 1008 and many devotees who have come for the festival are sponsoring these bricks as a donation towards the construction of the new Temple.

From Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir! HH Bhakti Vinoda Swami

It is very challenging to be a servant, to have the mood of the servant and also adopt the mood of a leader. Sometimes we think, they are both anathema, they don’t go together. In the world, people are all wanting to be leaders. They want to enjoy lordship. They want to enjoy mastership. They want to lord over people and many of them they do that for the sake of getting a subtle happy thrill of being able to control others and whatever servant leadership or whatever they may advocate, ultimately it is meant for them to enjoy leadership. But actually servant leadership as Prabhupada has mentioned here is sacrifice, is about giving yourself to others. First be a servant and leadership follows as a byproduct of it.

By Ravindra Svarupa Dasa

This work, “Srila Prabhupada: The Founder-Acarya of ISKCON”, authored by Ravindra Svarupa Dasa, is officially endorsed by ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission (GBC). The GBC requests all devotees and friends of ISKCON to give deep and careful attention to this work. To do so will broaden our collective understanding of, and appreciation for, the position of Srila Prabhupada and his unique role in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

The Glories of the ToVP: HH Sivarama Swami

By Sivarama Swami

In one morning walk, Srila Prabhupada said that our worship of Radha-Krishna is our own private business, but actually, in terms of preaching, our business is to dismantle the materialistic philosophy, such as evolution, which the material scientists have actually bewildered the whole world with. And this Temple of the Vedic Planetarium is the emblem of the instrument which is meant to achieve that.

Taking the Pulse

By Radha Bhakti Devi Dasi

To give an idea of how devotees attending the ISKCON Leadership Sanga are feeling, we asked a few of them for their thoughts and experiences after the completion of Day 6 here in Mayapur dham. Here’s what they had to say…

The compassion of the liberated soul

By Gadi Das

The pure devotee of Krsna cannot bear to watch the unfortunate souls of this world squander their lives in the useless pursuit of temporal, painful enjoyments. Seeing such “enjoyments” as the binding karmic links to an endless chain of births and deaths….The pure devotee cannot bear to see their suffering.

Celebrating Innovation!

By Vrndavana Vinodini Dasi

Day 5 of the ISKCON Leadership Sanga (ILS) has come to a close and there is a spring in everyone’s step here in Sridham Mayapur. Today was the appearance day of Bhaktisiddanta Saraswati Thakur and so after a wonderful Srimad Bhagavatam class by HH Bhakti Caru Swami, devotees headed to the main pandal since it’s a day where one fasts until noon. There, after a few quick announcements, HH Devamrita Swami took to the stage to deliver a powerfully relevant class on Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur and the topic of innovation.

Celebrating ISKCON’s 50th Anniversary

By Vrindavan Vinodini Dasi

“Landmark celebrations are a great way to speak to people that don’t really know about us,” says Ajay. “We can tell the world that we haven’t just been here for 50 years, but we’ve contributed to society in real positive ways over the last half century. We’ve contributed on a social level, a community level – we have made a very positive impact to the world.”

HH Radhanath Swami on Devotee Care

By Radhanath Swami

At 26 Second Avenue, the very foundational beginning of Hare Krishna movement in the West, hippies were coming, people who weren’t following the four regulative principles, didn’t have any conception of God, but they were taking interest and Srila Prabhupada saw them as devotees because he saw the potential. Prabhupada was cooking for them, cleaning for them, he was taking care of their health and he was nourishing their souls with his philosophy, with his kirtans, which was like medicine administered with such compassion.

From Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir! Speaker: HG Krsna Ksetra Das

By HG Krsna Ksetra Das

I don’t know about you, but I am a card carrying member of the fault-finding club. Actually I am an honorary member I am embarrassed to say but I am trying to learn to overcome this habit and one thing I find is that if I am self-critical then there is no more steam left to be critical of others because there is plenty of work for me to do on myself.

From Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir! Speaker: HH Sivarama Swami

By Sivarama Swami

Welcome to all of the members of the ILS festival that is taking place. This a leadership seminar and I have been asked to give class on a theme that I am not so versed on. Not that I am versed on many things but not on leadership. And this was the verse that was given to us, a very well-known verse from the Fifth Canto. I remember when the Fifth Canto came out, this Fifth Chapter was one of the ones that the devotees were very fond of learning and memorizing.

Certificate of appreciation

By Dhananjaya Krishna Das

Chief Minister of Haryana in a glittering ceremony awarded ISKCON Food Relief Foundation THE “Certificate of Appreciation”. The State Government’s highest decoration was conferred on ISKCONfor the selfless work done by the foundation in partnership with the State Government.

Festivals to primary schools

By Dhirabhakta Das

Unlike high school’s there is no direct learning outcomes set by SACRE (Standing Advisory Committee on Religious Education) which frees the primary teachers to explore in their own unique manor; those requesting visits have asked me to cover festivals. Which raises a unique challenge, I cannot just put together one presentation that covers all; (a one size fit’s all approach which many feel comfortable with) but a multiple layered approach given the vast age range.

That Muslim Girl

By Premanjana Das

I met her on a leading social networking website, her name was Nazia Mujeeb and she had a picture of Krishna in her profile, it surprised me that how a young muslim girl living in Mumbai had Krishna’s picture on her page. I sent her a friend request which she accepted as even I had Krishna in my profile, I started telling her more about Krishna and ISKCON on that website.

From Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir! HH Devamrita Swami

By Devamrita Swami

Krishna explains in the Bhagavad Gita, as soon as there is lust there must be frustration, anger, there is no way around it because you are not the body, you are not the mind, your dedication to material desires must cause problems. So we can see that in the case of the phenomenon we are describing of the middle class being the ones who are shaking everything up, not the proletariats as Marx predicted, not the poverty stricken persons that we thought to be the constant source of trouble.

The Glories of the ToVP: HH Gopal Krishna Goswami

By Gopal Krishna Goswami

Prabhupada opened many temples around the world but only Mayapur that he addressed as the world headquarters. The spiritual capital of ISKCON or the Vatican of ISKCON. And Prabhupada in many of his letters highlighted the importance of Mayapur. I collected three extracts from Prabhupada’s innumerable quotes that I would like to share with all of you.

Gratitude at the ISKCON Leadership Sanga

By GBC Community Relations Office

It is February 23rd, the eighth and final day of the ISKCON Leadership Sanga here in Sridham Mayapur. In the beginning, delegates were excited, hopeful, and enthusiastic for what the coming week would bring. They participated in numerous seminars, workshops, classes, kirtans, lunches, dinners, dramas, a Vedic fashion show and more. Everyone’s batteries have been recharged and the leaders from around the world are “fired up” to bring what they learned home to their respective congregations.

The Glories of the ToVP: HH Radhanath Swami

By Radhanath Swami

The Temple of Vedic Planetarium will show us the principles of the lower states of consciousness going up and up to the higher levels of material consciousness, to the siddhis, to the impersonal Brahman, to the Vaikunthas, and ultimately, to Goloka Vrindavana.

I am

By Damodar Prasad Das

It was a momentous winter’s day when Descartes sat down with the sole intention of demolishing all of his opinions. Descartes began by rejecting all knowledge gained from the senses, as the senses sometimes deceive. He concluded that whereas the empirical sciences can be classed as dubious, the abstract sciences such as arithmetic and geometry cannot. However, so determined was he to call into question all of his knowledge, that he conceived of a cunning and powerful demon, who was exerting all of his power to deceive him, even in matters related to the abstract sciences.

WSN January 2014 - World Sankirtan Newsletter. Look out, Bhaktivedanta Manor book distributors!

By Vijaya Dasa

It looks like some temples got so much good momentum going during the marathon that they just didn’t want to stop. Simhacalama (Germany) is one of these. The team consists of brahmacaries traveling around Germany in a bus to distribute the mercy. In January, with 3,425 book points, they came very close to doubling the January results of the first-place temple in Western Europe for 2013, Bhaktivedanta Manor. And last year they were only about three thousand points behind the Manor. So look out, Bhaktivedanta Manor book distributors! The Germans may be seeking that first-place spot this year.

Lecture called Living the Matrix by Gadadhara Pandit Dasa

By Rev. Jim Hetzer

Thank you, Gadadhara Pandit Dasa for being an authentic human being. Gadadhara Pandit Dasa is the first Hindu to be part of the campus ministry at Columbia University through the Union Theological Seminary. Pandit gave a lecture on Feb. 14, 2014 at Yoga on High in Columbus. The goal of the lecture was to relate some of the philosophical questions raised in The Matrix movie to traditional Hindu beliefs as expressed in the Bhagavad Gita, which is considered to be the major Hindu holy text.

Feeling Supported!

By Vrndavana Vinodini Dasi

Among the numerous seminars, incredible prasadam and darshan of Sri Sri Panca Tattva, Radha Madhava and Nrsimhadeva, a sense of family and community is being developed among the leaders. As Day 4 of the ILS came to a close, devotees gathered in the prasadam hall for a movie night where talented devotee directors had the opportunity to showcase their efforts to share Krsna with others through the arts.

For the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada this file contains the following North American results for the month of January

An Appeal for restoration of Srila Prabhupada’s diksa sthali at Prayaga

By Shyamananda Dasa

Owing to the widespread misconception that Srila Prabhupada’s diksa took place at Sri Rupa Gaudiya Matha at Prayaga as well as other reasons both circumstantial and providential the actual location of Srila Prabhupada’s diksa which was a rented house belonging to a Bengali family has now become a three-star hotel by the name of Hotel Ramayana.

First Book Distributor

By Pandava vijaya dasa

Although Srila Prabhupada wanted his disciples to be as eager to distribute Krsna consciousness literature as he was, no one of them knew how to do it. Distributing a magazine and asking for small donation was one thing-but a big hardbound book? When the entire shipment of “Teaching of Lord Caitanya” had arrived in New York in April of 1967. The devotees had hired a truck, picked up the books at the dock, and unloaded them at 26 Second Avenue. They had then shipped them to ISKCON centers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Montreal, and elsewhere. And there they remained, in the temples.

By Baladev Das

Seeing a congenial time for all devotees to meet, a BOOK MARATHON FESTIVAL GET TOGETHER was organized in the 2nd week of January in the Ashram. Like Every Year H.H Radhanath swami maharaj was present to grace the occasion and to hear devotees share their experience and finally to distribute gifts to all book distributors

24 hrs …… Murari……no fluff

By Gadi das

We’ve had the most frustrating exchange with the most intelligent, determined rats this planet can produce…we have sealed over any and all entrance routes with tiles, cement and metal….they will not be deterred, they even eat through cement….they will not enter live traps… And when they can’t get into the kitchen, they chew the water pipes, 3 to be exact… until water shoots them in the face, and then we have a half day repair on our agenda that wasn’t on the agenda…
