Plans for Increasing Book Distribution

By the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness

While ISKCON, the GBC, and the BBT are independent entities and thus the GBC cannot instruct the BBT trustees, the GBC humbly appeals to the BBT trustees to kindly get involved in pushing this process forward and making sure that the development of these plans actually happens. The Indian BBT and Indian GBCs are exempted from this resolution as they are already doing such powerful book distribution. Of course, they are welcomed and encouraged to present a plan for the coming year if they wish.

“SRI ISODYANA” Nandana Acarya’s House - Where Lord Nityananda and Lord Caitanya Met The First Time

By Chandan Yatra Das

I perpetually worship Sri Nityananda, the root of the tree of Krishna-Bhakti, who wandering around in Bengal approached the door of every home. With upraised arms he exclaimed: “O Brothers! Please constantly chant the holy names of Hari. If you do so, I will take the responsibility to deliver you from the ocean of material existence.”

WSN December 2013 - Wow! Another year better than the last one: over 8 million books distributed! The highest total since 1995!

By Vijaya das

Look what New Delhi did: 641,898 book points! And look what Juhu did: 453,396 book points! Incredible. And Mayapur: 325,423 book points. And look what the simple temple, Sri Sri Radha-Gopinath in Chowpatti, did: 309,661 book points–amazing. All of these temples increased by 999% above their monthly average. I think the book distributors in these temples were in samadhi, especially Madhusundara Prabhu in New Delhi who did 31,410 book points. He should be in the book distributors hall of fame if such a hall ever manifests.

Fulfilling our longing for love

By Chaitanya Charan das

Love is our innermost longing. Gita wisdom declares that our longing for love is best fulfilled when we learn to love Krishna. Let’s understand this central Gita teaching in five parts: Loving Krishna enables our love to break free from all limitations, Krishna is eminently lovable, Krishna loves all of us impartially, Krishna’s love for us is unconditional and Krishna engages his omnipotence to help us when we choose to love him.

My journey with Food for Life – A summary of 40 years

By Priyavrata das

I could hardly imagine Food for Life being so successful when I first became a volunteer way in 1984. Back then I worked as an assistant cook and server at a free food cafe called, Gopals in Parramatta, Australia. That was one of the first free food cafes set up by the Hare Krishna movement in Australia and it was a forerunner to other Food for Life projects throughout Australia.

All ISKCON temples should purchase the books of His Divine Grace from the BBT exclusively!

By Tamohara Das

It has come to our attention that there is some confusion regarding the purchase of Srila Prabhupada’s books for mass distribution. It is the policy of ISKCON, clarified by Srila Prabhupada in the accompanying letter, that all ISKCON temples purchase the books of His Divine Grace from the BBT exclusively. “If temples print independently it will be at the cost of the books I am myself printing, and could eventually cause the financial ruin of the BBT, meaning I could not order new books from the printer or have sufficient funds for construction of temple projects.”

Isn’t renunciation a sign of frustration?

By Chaitanya Charan das

Doesn’t renunciation indicate an absence of the will to keep fighting amidst frustration? Not necessarily. Renunciation can also be a sign of realization; it can indicate the presence of the insight that there is more to life than fighting futilely for perishable material pleasures.

Bhakti Charu Swami’s Research of Shastras and Udayananda’s letter to him

By Udayananda Dasa

I recently received an email from one of our Godbrother’s. It was a copy of some excerpts from a talk you gave on November 14, 2013 regarding “The Glorious Position of Srila Prabhupada”. The paper was seven printed pages long and gave amazing vijnana realizations of the appearance and pastimes of Srila Prabhupada supported by appropriate shastras. This was very clear, relevant and accurate forecasting of HDG by the shastras themselves.

Where Do Our Departed Vaisnavas Go?

By Kesava Krsna Dasa

At a recent farewell gathering for a departed Vaisnava, God brothers spoke. One sannyasa-guru Godbrother said that his Godbrother has gone Back To Godhead. Another sannyasa-guru Godbrother said that his Godbrother has gone to take another birth in Krishna or Gaura-lila, which seemed to put a dampener on things. Are they saying two different things?

Depending on Krsna’s Protection

By Inmate Bhakta Joseph P.

The time I spend chanting the Maha-mantra in the quiet early mornings is one of my most favorite times of the day. It is that special time spent in direct association with our dear Lord Sri Krsna. But there are days when I don’t feel anything special, that even in this most auspicious transcendental activity, I feel alone, and oh, so far from my dear Lord. When this happens, it is easy to wonder if I am actually receiving His mercy; if there is purpose to my chanting or if I am just wasting my time.

Science, Society, and Kṛṣṇa Consciousness

By Krishna-kirti das

For many devotees, and especially for non-devotees, a doubt may arise as to the authority of the Vedic scriptures over the body of scientific evidence produced by the social sciences. Over the years, the hard sciences have produced many discoveries—powered flight, heart transplants, telephones, cars, computers, and so forth. In previous eras these would have been considered miraculous. For the social sciences, the expectation is held that if science is applied to the study of humanity similar miracles will be produced.

2.5 million names of Krishna chanted during the 16th annual New Year’s Japathon, 2014 in New Biharvan Dham, Boise

By Sri Arjuna das Brahmachari

When the first Japathon was held on January 1st 1998, the goal was to chant one name of Krishna for every resident of Boise; the population of Boise then was 100,000 people. As the Temple community grew, we started to chant one name of Krishna for every resident of Idaho, which meant chanting at least 1.5 million names, and since then every year has been a tremendous event, with newcomers and congregation members joining together before Sri Sri Radha Bankebihari to chant together.
