Karatalas: Weapons of mass inspiration!
The Sanskrit word “kara” means hand and “tala” - a rhythmic pattern. Literally, karatalas - a hand tool to maintain the rhythm. However, this instrument is considered to be a divine instrument. Ratha-yatra in Surabaya, Indonesia (Album with photos)
Kavicandra Swami: Surabaya is the 2nd biggest city in Indonesia. They have a yearly beautiful flower festival parade. The government is kindly allowing us to join with Jagannath Ratha Yatra. As per the rules, the Ratha is covered with flowers.
Outside of India, I have never seen so many people waiting to see the Lord’s ratha coming. The population is majority Muslim with many Christians and some Hindus. The is no racial tension and all are friendly.
