Should ISKCON Devotees become Vegan?

by Administrator
By Hrdaya Caitanya dasa

This is not an official ISKCON presentation. I became concerned when I saw many devotees, especially in the west, becoming vegan, without looking for alternative solutions, such as developing farms with protected cows. These are my personal views based on my understanding of Srila Prabhupada’s teachings. Veganism is a broad topic, in this presentation we mainly discuss about milk consumption.

Why I am not vegan

by Administrator
By Priyavrata Das

Consuming dairy from a loved, respected and protected cow is perfectly in line with the essential ideology of veganism -- non-violence. But if you're a fanatical vegan, you won't bring yourself to accept such a possibility. So it is best to avoid trying to press that ideal into a new form of the ideology, but rather accept the fact that veganism in the strictest sense of the term is flawed.

The Vegan Threat to Bovine Welfare

by Administrator
By Mayesvara Dasa

As director of the American Vedic Association and a practicing Vegetarian I have embraced the tradition of honoring and protecting the cow as one's own mother for nearly 40 years. I therefore share with the Vegan community their outrage at the cruelty inflicted on commercial dairy cows. I don't however agree the Vegan gospel: "Thou Shall NOT drink Milk" is the most effective strategy for putting an end to the barbaric way the dairy industry exploits and abuses cows.

NOT VEGANS, COW PROTECTORS

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy Sivarama Swami

You don't need to say, "Oh welll, I'm a Hare Krishna, I've offered it to Krishna, and therefore I'm free from the reaction." It is questionable if you're free from the reaction. Why? Srila Prabhupada has made it clear that our duty is cow protection.
