Srimad Bhagavatam 3.26.62-71 – Mukunda Goswami – 22 Jan 2026.

by Administrator / 24 Jan 2026 / Published in testing  /

The speaker explains how the presiding deities of the senses sequentially enter the Virat Purusha—speech, smell, sight, hearing, touch, procreation, excretion, movement, circulation, hunger, mind, intelligence, and ego—yet none can awaken Him. Only when the Supersoul (the inner controller, consciousness itself) enters does the cosmic being arise. This illustrates that neither senses, mind, nor intelligence can awaken spiritual life; only divine consciousness and devotional service can do so. The key conclusion is that material activities cannot link one to the Supreme; only devotion combined with detachment can.

The lecture then expands into broader philosophical and practical themes drawn from Bhagavad Gita and Srila Prabhupada’s teachings. The speaker discusses:

The importance of acting according to one’s nature (varna) rather than imitating others.

The idea that no occupation is abominable if performed in service to Krishna.

Apparent contradictions in scripture, such as truthfulness versus occupational duties (e.g., merchants telling lies), emphasizing the need for intelligence, context, and discernment.

Examples and anecdotes (monkey-and-wedge story, Arjuna’s duty as a kshatriya, merchants, brahmanical truthfulness) to show the dangers of imitation and misapplied principles.

The concept that the material world is real but temporary, like a dream, and that scripture sets very high ideals that may not be immediately attainable by everyone.

The discussion also touches on varnashrama dharma, the idea of training institutions (varnashrama colleges), and the gradual realization of Srila Prabhupada’s vision through existing educational programs within ISKCON. Questions from devotees address topics such as white lies, the nature of the Virat Purusha, purification of false ego through devotional service, and whether following one’s natural inclinations in service leads to purification. The overall tone stresses humility, patience, and sincere devotional engagement over rigid literalism.
