Śrī Lalitā-devī
Her Appearance: Śrī Lalitā-devī is twenty-seven days older than Śrīmatī Rādhikā. She has a beautiful golden complexion that surpasses the radiance of gorocana. Her face outshines the full moon, and her eyes are restless like those of a startled doe. She is adorned in a splendid peacock-colored sari, an exquisite kañculī, red sindūra in the parting of her hair, and beautiful jeweled ornaments.
Her Qualities: Lalitā-devī is endowed with countless sweet and divine qualities. She is naturally expert in all the arts and is a treasure-house of feminine virtues. She is bold, intelligent, affectionate, and the foremost among the beloved sakhīs of Śrīmatī Rādhikā.
Her Loving Mood: She is completely absorbed in sauhṛda-rasa, always thinking of the happiness of her intimate friend, Śrīmatī Rādhikā. She is the very life of Rādhikā and Śrī Krishna and is also the recipient of Yaśodā-devī’s parental affection.
Her Role Among the Sakhīs: Lalitā-devī is the guru of the sakhīs, guiding them in the art of intimate friendship and service. When she finds a maiden in Vraja who is favorably inclined toward Rādhikā, she brings her to Rādhā’s party, svapakṣa, thereby fulfilling her desires.
Her Service: Her foremost service is arranging the meetings of Śrī Rādhā and Mādhava. She is expert in dressing and decorating Rādhikā and lovingly cares for every detail of Their meetings. Even wiping the perspiration from Their lotus feet becomes an expression of her loving service.
Her Greatest Joy: Lalitā-devī finds her greatest happiness in bringing Śrī Rādhā and Govinda together. Her sevā of arranging Their meetings and increasing Their pleasure is dearer to her than all the festivals of Vraja combined.
Gaura-līlā Identity: In Gaura-līlā, Śrī Lalitā-devī appears as Śrī Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī, serving as the intimate associate of Lord Caitanya. He assists Lord Caitanya in relishing and tasting the highest mellows of pure devotional service.
