Please accept my humble obeisances. All glorious to Srila Prabhupada Gopal Bhatta Prabhu!
It’s nice to see you!
Thank you very much for honoring me by letting me come on to your program!
Oh no, it’s our honor and thank you so much for devoting your valuable time. I think that you know and maybe many of our audience know, but just in case, the GBC SPT has started all the way back in February 19th with a portrayal of celebrating Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita headed toward the Gaura Purnima and we have all of these events going on.
Click here to read the rest of the transcription

Already we’ve probably conducted maybe 20 25 of them i think maybe 50 to 55 events during this period of time and we’re trying to understand and dig deeper into the sri caitanya charitamrita and today we start a series with you trying to understand the internal mood of lord caitanya trying to understand how we must approach caitanya mahaprabhu and Nityananda prabhu to able to be able to approach radha krishna kind of going into the deeper parts of the philosophy of caitanya charitamrita so we want to encourage our audience to log on to all the events that we have leading up to gaura purnima you of course are a pretty well known devotee you’ve been the devotee what since 71 or something where where did you join chicago chicago that’s right done an awful lot of things movies lot of service over the years um but I’d like to just by way of introducing you introduce the sabha which you were honored to be the chairman of and just for the for the sake of our audience to understand more about the sabha just tell us for a minute or two about the sabha and what that is and what it’s doing i’d be very much interested to have our audience understand that well the subway was created in 2018 by a gbc resolution we are the spiritual advisory bhagavat assembly sabha and what we have been created to do is be a check and balance on the gbc and present also issues and proposals to the gbc body without the need to gain sponsors in order to do so this emulated the desire of srila prabhupada who established the temple presidents back in late 1970s to provide the same function they were to meet after the meetings reviewed the resolutions and send back any resolutions with which they had trouble this came out of property’s dissatisfaction with the gbc at that time and that group of temple presidents from around the world continued to meet for a number of years before it just kind of dissipated and was lost and the sabab basically was created through the aegis of the org dev to revive that principle that srila prabhupad wanted for his gbc and how many members are part of the sabah well the full membership is 35 we have membership from geographical locations from sannyasi gurus from vaishnavis from youth and from women ministry youth ministry so like that we have a different profiles from all over the world and they’re elected by some of the ministries or by the sggs accordingly they’re nominated and elected for four-year terms and um there’s you know a whole litany of right of rules about the sabah which are in our founding document which can be seen on our site iskansabad.com and the sggs that is a an acronym for the sangha of gbc’s gurus and sannyasis just so that people might not be aware of the sggs yeah I do remember because I always get it mixed up wonderful wonderful service um a very very important service so on to chaitanya chardon rita maybe before we begin we’re talking about today the internal mood but just give us a few minutes on the external mood just so that we have the juxtaposed between external and internal okay so um before I attempt to access any of these secrets I first want to pray to the lotus feet of sri caitanya mahaprabhu so much of what is existing in the caitanya terra tamrita is is founded on respect and honoring of the vaishnavas so we always and and krishna’s kaviraj who wrote the caitanya tom rita his his entire reason for doing so was at the request of the vaisnavas which we’ll review in a little bit let’s look at let’s look first since the chaitanya charitamrita is our basic fountain of knowledge about caitanya mahaprabhu let’s look at that a little bit of the history of that hey geography that that krsna’s kavi raj made first of all vrndavandas wrote of course the the the caitanya bhagwat and when and he was a contemporary of lord caitanya whereas krishna’s kaviraj was not so what happened was vrndavan got so um absorbed in describing nichinanda’s act lord chaitanya’s activities that many events mentioned in the outline when he was going to write the book were left out of the final version especially the later years of mahaprabhu’s life so long after mahaprabhu’s departure the brandavan devotees approached krsna’s kabhiraj whom they recognized as a very pure soul and they asked him to write down the full version of the pastimes because otherwise it would be forgotten and he then thinking himself very unqualified and knowing he had to take the mercy of the lord and the vaisnavas he went to the deity of madon mohan and he asked permission to do as he been asked and then in front of everyone when he was taking this permission a garland fell from the lord’s and and everyone took it that oh that means you’re supposed to write the biography so so then um they took that garland they placed it on krsna’s chest he took it as a symbol of the deities wishes and with great humility he began to write this biography and he said that it was dictated to him by madan mohan now why do I why do I bring the this history up because it’s very important to understand who the source is of this writing so that we can have faith we can have shraddha that this personality is giving us the the the real stuff um he said he said my writing is like the repetition of a parrot he said I write as as the lord orders me and he reminded me how srila prabhupad would say to us that krishna has dictated his books and he gives the example of that he’s like a wooden marionette made to dance by a puppeteer so and that’s that’s stated within the chaitanya charitamrita itself so the unrecorded the heretofore unrecorded pastimes illustrating this rasa philosophy of mahaprabhu became more widely known because they were not present in the caitanya bhagavata very much and we’re going to approach this inner mood as we converse about a very very delicate subject which will see really can only be understood by the mercy of the lord so with folded hands I um i I will offer whatever I can i’ll offer the view a a peek into that absolute world world a peak I say because i’m i’m looking through his eyes i’m looking through prabhupada’s eyes my eyes are simply covered by material lust but we have those eyes of them that are smeared with the ointment of love so that that door that you the prophet cracked open um that that we’re going to approach and and that curtain that he pulled that curtain of illusion we’re gonna let that performance be begin by tugging on those pulleys of that veil by the world’s greatest in impresario himself ac now one thing that comes up is that prabhupad’s lecture on the out of abi leo he said on one five he says you cannot understand god or krishna without being a faithful servant this is the secret and if we become faithful under the guidance of the proper spiritual master we can understand what is krishna what is prabhuman and what his loving affairs with radharani what is what is sri krishna caitanya mahaprabhu these things are revealed it’s not acquired by so-called mundane knowledge that’s not possible so we should always remain faithful servant to krishna krishna is within everyone’s heart he’ll be pleased by our service he’ll reveal himself and what he is otherwise it’s not possible and as I read what prabhupad said just then i’m reminded of the fact that radharani herself is the queen of all the devotees so understanding her relationship to krishna to whatever degree we we are capable that reveals to us our ability and our realizations of of who we really are what is our citadel what is our actual relationship with krishna but it’s our own level of advancement very much that determines the depth of our understanding which is why i shouldn’t be really lecturing on this exalted subject but but you invited me so I have a rule that you know go where you’re invited don’t go where you’re not invited and I have to say I do stay a lot I stay home a lot in these days ago i’ve copied okay wow a lot already let’s just quickly cover the external mood and then let’s get into the internal mood what is the external mood of caitanya mahaprabhu okay it’s really important thank you very much for that question because it’s you know in order to differentiate what’s external and what’s internal it’s probably easiest for us to see first what’s external and by the process of perhaps elimination we’ll know what you know what is more internally understood from at least our ability to understand it so um how to say this krishna um well in in the in the adi leela 3 13 to 17 krsna’s is said to that he enjoys his transcendental pastimes as long as he wishes and then he disappears and after disappearing he thinks you know for a long time i’ve not this this is from prabhupada’s purport i’ve not bestowed unalloyed loving service to me among the inhabitants of the world without such loving attachment the existence of the material world is useless everywhere in the p in the world people worship me according to scriptural injunctions but simply by following such regular principles one cannot attain the loving sentiments of the devotees knowing my opulences the whole world looks upon me with awe and veneration but devotion made feeble by such reverence does not attract me this is krsna’s thinking this is actually part of his internal mood by performing such regulated devotional service in on veneration one can go to vaikunta and attain the four kinds of liberation my plenary portions can establish the principles of religion for each age no one but me however krishna can bestow the kind of loving service performed by the presidents of raj therefore he’s thinking in the pres in the company of my devotees I shall appear on earth and perform various colorful pastimes and think thinking thus the personality of godhead sri krishna himself descended at nadia early in the age of kali so you know this is this is the kind of the first what is considered actually an external reason in one sense now to inaugurate the the yugo dharma for the kali yuga prabhupad gives us the second external reason in the cc and three adilia 358 by performing the sacrifice of congregational chanting of the holy name learned scholars in the age of kali worship lord krishna who is now non-blackish because of the great upsurge of feelings of srimati rattarani he’s the only worshipable deity for the paramahansas who have attained the highest stage of sennyas the fourth order may that supreme personality of godhead lord caitanya show us his great causeless mercy so there’s the second external reason and the third is something I would have never guessed and i I found it as i you know was doing some research for this talk that he actually responds to the desire of his devotees so even though this devotee is an incarnation of krishna he comes as a devotee and that is sria deutsche acharya and it’s described in the adilila in 96 98 and 108 to 11 in this way advaitacarya having appeared found the world devoid of devotional service to shri krishna because people were engrossed in material affairs you got to think to yourself this is in the 17th century actually he was 52 and lord caitanya appeared so so maybe that was even in the 14th 15th 16th yeah 15th century and so he said um no one was interested in transcendental service of the lord which can give total relief from the repetition of birth and death seeing the activities of the world the acharya felt compassion and began to ponder how he could act for the people’s benefit he can’t thinking of the lotus feet of sri krishna he constantly offered tulsi buds and water from the ganges he appealed to shri krishna with loud calls and thus made it possible for krishna to appear therefore the principal reason for sri chitanya’s dissent in this appeal is this appeal by advaitacharya so this is the third external reason the lord appeared because his devotee called him the lord the protector of religion appears by the desire of his devotee now by the way in the caitanya bhagwat it’s described that one time srinivas acharya had a dream about shia dwaytocharya and in that dream srinivasa chariot was mesmerized by the beauty of ajwaite acharya who’s who had the phys you know golden physique and gorgeous arms and and you know like a mountain he was painted t-lock on his forehead a garland a tulsi around his neck long arms like the trunk of an elephant and you know this is this is we shouldn’t think of shreya dwight this is an old man with a beard or sometimes as people say without a beard at least on the deity something this is the pastime that is just him appearing as an older man although he wasn’t that old when the lord appeared he’s he is an incarnation of the maha vishnu and the sata shiva but um his voice as a dwacharya pierced the universal covering and was heard in the spiritual world calling lord caitanya to come and relieve the humanity of its suffering wonderful our celebration of the chaitanya charter breed actually began with sri advaita’s appearance today on february 19th radhanath maharaja went and elaborated on the pastimes of sridhara calling the lord so okay I think this is a good review of the external um let’s do could you shift into the internal mood of chaitanya mahaprabhu i’ll try um this is very advanced and I i feel very um inadequate but i’ll do my best so again we’re gonna look at the cc and audi leela 248 to 50 and 62 to 69 where it says my eyes are fully satisfied when I look upon shimata radharani but by looking upon me she becomes even more advanced in satisfaction i’m always eager to taste the joy that radharani derives from me in spite of various efforts i’ve not been able to taste it but my desire to relish that pleasure increases increases as I smell its sweetness formally i appeared in the world to taste mellows and I tasted the mellows of pure love in various ways i taught devotional surface that springs from the devotee’s spontaneous love by demonstrating it with pastimes we’re all familiar with those pastimes the lord came 5000 years ago but these three desires of mine krsna says we’re not satisfied for one cannot enjoy them in a contrary position unless i accept the luster of the ecstatic love of sri radhika these three desires cannot be fulfilled and therefore assuming radharani’s sentiments and bodily complexion i shall descend to fulfill these three desires so in this way the lord came to a decision and simultaneously the time came for the incarnation of this age recalling so those three desires are to look upon himself as radharani looks at him to taste the joy that radharani desires from him and the desire to relish that pleasure increasingly as he smells its sweetness now I don’t pretend to you know really comprehend all of what that means but this is how it’s stated this is how it’s given to us so I know in due course of time one one lifetime maybe in a million in the future I will be able to fully you know under you know get what what’s being said but they’re the these three inner desires these desires of the the inner moods of lord caitanya the essence the the rasa of his appearance and basically everything else pales in comparison even his saving the conditioned souls pales in comparison to his fulfilling those inner desires but you know for our for our mission our duty that srila prabhupada has given us saving conditioned souls is the it is the same kind of taste that will appear the same kind of bliss that exists from the lord when he’s experiencing these inner moods that’s the most amazing thing that we get let’s just repeat these three that you just said slowly again we really want to capture this he wants to look upon himself as radharani looks at him he wants to taste the joy that radharani desires from him and he wants to relish that pleasure increasingly as he smells its sweetness so so you can you can say if everything else pales in comparison how can god be so selfish and that’s a stumbling block for religionists and i’ll tell you why they want to limit god to their own conception and and we know that god’s not dependent on our idea of him he’s he is truly maram he’s the original self he’s the para operon you can’t constrict him you can’t restrict him but you can in only one instance and that’s what by rendering pure devotional service then he becomes your debtor he’s only controlled by love and the love of whom is the greatest radharani so that brings us to us the recipients of this rare gem of knowledge that some will not recognize as authentic and others will use for their own lusty desires like the sahajas so for us to come to a deeper understanding of these types of topics is it that we have to what do we do do we move beyond just the veidy bhakti position for us to understand this nice try and a lot of people have have taken that idea and run with it and you know put themselves into well like the you know the gross example of those that pretend they’re christian himself and enjoy on the material platform but the the whole idea of bhakti is that one performs one’s duty with the expectation that all of krishna’s all advancement is due to the spiritual master’s mercy and i’m going to get into that in in a little bit if you just if you give me a little wiggle room here we’ll move we’ll move into that idea you’ve kind of by your intelligence you’ve already guessed where i’m headed okay go ahead then all right so um so so some are going to think of this rare gem as like costume jewelry and throw it away and fortunate souls who recognize this value are going to roll in the dust of the pure devotees feet in ecstasy crying govinda and krishna you know we’ve we’ve heard these about pure devotees how they just they just go mad really and we have to you know we have to understand that you know what is good for krishna that is just like caitanya mahaprabhu spent all those years um you know in the gambira basically unto himself did some preaching not much but he was experiencing the ecstasies of love of radharani which is one of the inner moods that he came to experience but what is good for krishna is good for us and that’s sometimes very difficult to understand it’s it’s it’s why for example the highest service is to distribute knowledge all over the world despite the austerities telling everybody you you know you meet about krishna chanting jop out loud so the the trees and the grass and the creepers and the birds and the animals and the humans they can all benefit from just hearing those two sacred syllables krishna and it’s why we chant the panchatapa mantra before kirtan or joppa so we can invoke the mercy of the most munificent munificent incarnation of the lord in his mission and his inner mood of intense love and compassion so to this is this is very different from any other spiritual teaching where it looks like why didn’t caitanya preach those last years that instead of just reclusing himself in in in isolation and enjoying the wonderful pastimes that he was was experiencing with radha and krishna love of separation feelings of ecstasy and it’s this kind of mis it’s a material desire that people have to make god in their own image but in fact he’s not subject to that and that’s one of the great gifts that srila prabhupad gave us is to give us krishna as he is bhagavad-gita as he is and then our vaidhi bhakti by practicing it we come to not only understand krsna as he is but to love krishna as he is it’s a very mystical process so it’s pretty clear that the beginning points of bhakti require regulation the four principles the chanting but then we to gain deeper we have to read we have to associate with those that are more advanced yes that’s part of vaidy bhakti that’s part of our process you know it’s and it’s it and and and so then chaitanya chair naritas who the prophet said is like the advanced study clearly some of the points that you’ve been bringing out are the most advanced of our philosophy to understand them to understand them what do we do well you know I don’t I don’t want to repeat myself too many times but actually repetition is how we learn things the the i’ve seen people who begin to chant radhe ratay or you know they they worship the deity with familiarity although prabhupada has given us the instruction that radhakrishnan is always worshipped with odd reverence we’re not on a platform to you know to worship them and you know in any other mood i’ve seen people devotees my friends um you know kind of go off in different tangents and teachings from other godia teachers etc and i’ve never really seen that it has produced a very good result i remember prabhupad gave the one devotee who wanted to live in radhika and prophet said well okay you can live there but only if you never leave and some years later of course they left because they weren’t advanced and you know it was proud but profit of course he was giving that opportunity but he knew i’m sure that the this devotee was you know not going to be able to live there for his entire life so it’s a very rare thing to understand on the topmost level these relate the relationship of radha and krishna and to to leave the principles of bhakti is to disobey the orders of the spiritual master if you disobey the orders of the spiritual master you get lost you know you’re just going to have to suffer until his mercy comes and picks you up again so that’s my understanding now someone who has you know kind of said well you know prabha just gave us the basics and you know he wanted us to advance and therefore you know it’s okay to to you know sometimes even give up joppa or you know do so many different have some attachments which are not necessarily conducive to devotional service you know I wish you luck but it’s it’s not my understanding nor is it the understanding of most of the devotees that I like to hang out with and I think that you have to pick and choose very carefully the sangha that you have you know so that you don’t get distracted from the essential simplistic process that prabhupad gave us chance 16 rounds a day follow four relive principles tell everyone you meet about krishna you know really kind of simple stuff I don’t think that I certainly know i i’m not capable maybe somebody else is but i’m gonna stick to those i’m gonna keep it simple stupid basically so and in the meantime then we are also studying deeply srila prabhupad’s books and in those books of course he is taking us as far as our realization can go kopal did prabhupad ever I mean on on a very rare occasion you saw prabhupad move into a mood of ecstasy but he he he wasn’t walking around ex you know showing off his level of advancement to everyone he was he was walking with us you know not above us and you know it’s it’s to that example to which i you know I said no we have to we have to follow in powerpod’s footsteps and even if we’re fee even if we are advanced you don’t reveal that to anybody that’s just a no-no because proudpad didn’t do it so so some of this we’re not really qualified to hear yet we are also reading it and hearing it so what how do we make sense of that we’re not qualified to hear yet srila prabhupada is giving it to us how do we make sense of that well it’s just like any education you know if you’re studying us chemistry you’re not qualified math or or any subject you’re not qualified necessarily to understand the material when you’re studying it but the relationship between you the material and the teacher is such that you know through associating in the classroom through your homework through your practice eventually that understanding comes i’ll never forget when I was in middle school and I took a course in solid geometry i would be going home on the bus and I would be thinking of these proofs these long proofs you have to make in order to prove you know that the cosine of something equaled the sign of something else and you know I would just be just kind of meditating on it meditating on it and sometimes just by the by the fact that i was thinking about the answer would appear because you’re associating and then you’re getting that reflected by the teacher some clarification and eventually realization comes so that’s our process it’s it’s not much different than any type of learning process yes a lot of people read bhagavad-gita first time they don’t understand that a lot of things you don’t understand and then you read it again you read it again you read it again you talk to devotees it’s not that you don’t have the material or the the hearing it’s that you um it’s that you stick with it that you’re persistent and that you’re determined and eventually from that enthusiasm develops and then you become niche that you become very steady because you buy oh look I studied this I got this far oh this is now more advanced let me study that I can get that far and you’ll notice prabhupad did the bhagavatam um and he did the he did the he did actually the teachings of lord caitanya as one of his first major heart you know large big books but he contextualized it in a way that you know made it very approachable for us i’ll never forget when I came I was reading that book I think was 71 or 72 and I came across the discussion with ramananda rai all these names were like foreign to me ramanandara okay and I i read that ramen under rai was asked by lord caitanya to you know discuss certain certain philosophical points of the relationship of radha and krishna and ramananda roy said to him he says you’re god what do you need to hear from me and lord caitanya said no because by when you you’re my devotee when your lips touch those words they become sweeter and when i read that something it touched something in me i said okay nothing can be higher than that in a relationship with god no there’s there’s just you can’t go any higher than that where god is pleased because you are are speaking his glories wow i couldn’t think of any theological position that could be greater it was very convincing to although I was already devotee it just it just concretized my faith that much more it’s one of my favorite things so yes we we do learn by association association with prabhupad in his purports association with some of the great vaisnavas of the past through prophet’s references to them it’s all there in the cc which is the postgraduate as we all know the postgraduate study of spiritual life so but I want to kind of come back to the internal internal please do yeah please do so as a hermeneutic principle we we first have to acknowledge our own level of advancement and ability to approach the subject and that requires a self-assessment and like in my own case that’s not too hard I i don’t have any qualification to really understand but um you know it would be like if i’m telling you how to perform open heart surgery but i don’t have training or I don’t even have the aptitude but I can tell you where to learn I can research the best doctors and I can send them to you I can even offer you their qualifications and skill set so in that way I can open the door to your own education so that’s how we help each other we keep opening doors to each other so that we can and you know you may know at one point in life and it may know one doctor that’s good in a different point in life it may know a much better doctor or a much better understanding of who’s someone else who has a much better understanding and we opened the door to those people so you know that that education um is a path and you know we have knowledge obtained through senses so that’s called paryaksha and then there’s knowledge received from others and that’s called projection and you know in the example of learning to be a surgeon you’d gain from a body of knowledge of other doctors so that’s preoccupied it’s a sense perceptuatory experience and beyond that is approacha which is intuition or realization based on that prayaksha and prayoksha so that’s the process of learning and the limitation of that knowledge will get you to wear to the impersonal realization of krishna it won’t get you to krishna or radharani see that’s above the plane of mundane perception and speculation it’s what we call a hokusa and it’s transcendental knowledge so there you can experience vikunta and it it’s that you know personal realization of god in his by quinta features but still still there the curtain hasn’t been fully opened it’s it’s it’s still not the full performance now rupa gosvami he revealed that the rasa theology of the relationships between pure devotees and krishna that they resemble loving feelings that humans experience between one another such as lover and beloved or friend and friend parent and child master and servant we we know these five relationships are rosses um but even in vaikuntha the souls where the you know they’re self-satisfied they are at maram of course and they’re in on reverence but there is so much more and that is the the speciality of caitanya mahaprabhu’s appearance where achinta or inconceivably those there’s those other there are other relationships other than neutrality and the aspiring bhakta becomes enlightened with this knowledge that there’s variety even perfection and that’s the secret recipe that srila prabhupada has delivered and he’s delivered it to whom the pitita pavan the most fallen and the fool number one was me and everybody else of course because prophet said we’re all fool number one we think we’re these bodies and worse we act like we’re these bodies so the first thing we really have to understand about chaitanya’s internal mood is that there is this variety of relationships taught by lord chaitanya himself and the question is are we qualified to hear it like you mentioned earlier are we really called how do we become qualified to hear it and that gets tricky um elaborate on this trickiness well you know the the qualification for understanding is always humility and that you know the first and the first step in humility is to kind of admit that we don’t know we we do not know how to understand and by ourselves so you know that vegan is really only important to one who feels unqualified to hearing and that’s that that’s the treasure of what we what we would say is the ultimate wisdom and i’m going to move into the story of server obama but thicharia who is a contemporary pundit of lord caitanya he you know many of you know the story he was a smart to brahman very puffed up one of the great scholars of the 16th century he was an appointee to the court of the king of orissa and he had this encounter with caitanya mahaprabhu and that meeting of course changed him but how he was a logician he was he was the dean of the state faculty in sanskrit literature he had a speculative mind and a very hard heart and we all know of course that caitanya mahaprabhu dismantled that pride altered his bad position his disposition and converted him into a great devotee of the lord but how how did he do that for sarva boma but acharya god had no concrete personal qualities derived his philosophical knowledge by logical hypothesis for example he reasoned everything’s created so there must be a higher power that’s created the world but that power cannot be a person because persons have limited power now we’re going to be speaking to the issue of the internal mood of lord caitanya through this example of the buddhijari so that liberation of the bhattacharya took place of course in puri and in the temple the juggernaut temple that that deity what is that juggernaut deity it memorializes lord krsna’s pastimes as the king of dwarka five thousand years ago and when caitanya mahaprabhu entered the temple for the first time he saw the temp the deity of juggernaut sarva obama happened to be by krsna’s arrangement he happened to be present and he witnessed caitanya mahaprabhu becoming overwhelmed and and the love of god and falling on the floor unconscious so you know he wanted to scrutinize the symptoms and he knew that charlatans would sometimes feign a trance just to attract innocent people and take advantage of them so in this case the symptoms appeared to be quite genuine he wasn’t able to detect any movements of chaitanya’s abdomen the beating of the heart the breathing all the bodily activities were in complete suspension but multiple symptoms of ecstatic trance the that’s called the sedipa savika were visible in his body and although he was surprised he understood in light of his vedic right certain vedic writings that those symptoms could be exhibited only by an externally liberated soul so you know chaitanya mahaprabhu was only 24 at the time he just had recently entered the sunyas ashram he had been traveling with his companions who he had left behind when he saw the temple forget the name of that bridge the dun dun dun dun du something bridge forget that name and he ran to the temple and his friends arrived after he had already fallen conscious and you know by at that moment um gopinathacharya arrived also at the temple and he happened to be sarah obama’s brother-in-law so he took the pilgrims to see caitanya and they revived him by chanting very loudly the holy names of the lord and at batachara’s request they all bathed in the sea and went to his house for lunch so this is the way in which the bhattacharya met caitanya mahaprabhu and he asked him you know please you know you’re a teacher of a dante philosophy um you you please I mean chaitanya mahaprabhu said to him you’re you’re this teacher of the philosophy and well-wisher i’m a young sunyasi he said I actually don’t know what’s good what’s bad he was being very exemplary very humble and i’m asking to take shelter of you he said to serve obama and accepting you as a spiritual master as a shikshi guru so he he experienced the very exemplary behavior of a sunnyasi whose duty is to study the vedanta philosophy and for seven days he sat in sarvo boma’s class um and listen to this impersonal philosophy that kind of was out of this 9th century buddhist flood of buddhism that had come across india at that time prior to this and then proliferated around and infiltrated penetrated into vedanta philosophy and so anyway one time when they met at the temple at that at that in those seven days caitanya mahaprabhu then denounced all of the philosophy in very scholarly ways and gave many rebuttals and refuted all the arguments and established the three truths that krsna’s the the central point of all relationships and devotional services everyone’s real occupation and life’s goal is to love krishna and um he you know it wasn’t accepted fully by the bhattacharya and so he this this incident it elicited the bhattacharya’s admiration but he was such a dry speculator that even gopinas quoting scriptural references was was fruitless so this is when the this is the the lesson to be learned no matter how hard how how hard-hearted is an individual by the lord’s mercy they can become in alignment with lord jacob one of lorcan one of lord caitanya’s inner moods which was to liberate all the people of the world and give them krishna praying so how could he do that was with a person who was so invested like the buddha chariot and i’m now going to ask to show a quick three four minute video from the very famous film that prabhupad watched and liked called nila chala mahaprabhu made in 1957 or 59 and in there is that scene in which the lord gives the full mercy to serve abu mabatacharya and then i’m going to tell you why I showed that the clip so and before we before we do that let me just ask our facilitator are we able to go over our time limit um because I know that we may have another event coming up hey christian pro I think this is the last event for the night we had one be prior to this so we can’t go over all right so we can we can yes then let’s show this video and um and then when we come back we’ll we’ll look to you nishinganda prabhu to do a wrap up on where we’re at i’ll unpack the sarvabova yes unpack it yeah so go ahead sakshi prabhu let’s show the the video [Music] foreign is [Music] foreign [Music] i foreign foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] my so what where did you get that oh the film of lord caitanya there’s two films actually that were done in the late 50s one is called nila chal mahaprabhu that’s the second half of the life of lord caitanya the first one was called nadar nimai that was from the time of of his appearance until the time he took sinaias it includes the very moving scene when he leaves his wife um prabhupad saw those films and i i had heard about that in the early 80s but those films were not manifest anywhere so i I spent quite a bit of time in kolkata with one now deceased bengali mataji who um she and I traipsed up and down the stairs of all the film distributors um looking for these two films that we’d heard about and finally we found some old copies so I went back to states and the next year I came back with a synchronous projector a back projection screen tapes video the whole thing we had 20 minute tapes in those days and i transferred both films and brought them back and the rest is history amazing yeah they’re beautiful we should we should do a conclusion to to your talk oh my god not even one third of the way through then we’ll have to schedule another time i mean I don’t know what to tell you i guess i guess the depths of this go deeper and deeper as we talk well it it really does I mean you gave me a i mean I took on I should say a very esoteric subject um that when I began to explore it I became more and more enthusiastic about it and you know you you keep discovering more in prabhupad’s books as you read them and when you have a talk scheduled when you do your research on that talk it’s almost like a detective search it is exhilarating I i mean of course i waited until the last minute but then once I started I was up to the wee hours and i got a couple hours of sleep got up early to finish it up it you know it’s a very exciting thing and I don’t feel tired at all because that’s the nature of devotional service you just when you really get excited about something when you get close to it and you also feel you’re on the trail of something it it is exhilarating to say the least so I want to thank you then I would suggest since you know our time is pretty much up that you just speak a little bit more on this topic of how you started to look into the chaitanya chair and amrita to understand this and how you kept moving forward let me just say what you said in a little bit more detail because this is the type of study that we need to do and it’s not just reading brawlpod’s books it’s studying them and deepening it and I don’t I don’t necessarily know how to do that so well and I think many of our viewers don’t do that so give us give us this experience again speak it again how did you go about doing this how did you go deeper into this um thank you for that question and maybe you’ll have me come back i’ll do the other i’ll do the other part of this talk sometime after corporeme but the because I i i we move into the actual racica part of what is that inner mood of chaitanya mahaprabhu enjoying his relationship knowing what is it that radharani feels for him and experiencing that but you know i started on this this learning how to do this research which I don’t think is anything new when I got into the book changes issue i started to say okay what is the context of this change and I started then you know you start looking at different editions start trying to find what’s in what what was what does this word really mean how does prabhupad use it you go to bonniepedia thank you vishnu murthy prabhu you go to bonnypedia and you begin to do a search just on let’s say the word rape you know you want to find out how did prabhupad use it and how many times did he use it or when prabhupad uses a blessed lord did he use it other than the way hari grieva put it in in the in the addition did he like it turns out he did the bhagavatam and the cc without even any reference to the gita and you find you know begin to go on this detective search and all of a sudden you reveal things can become as revealed knowledge like vegan and you have a deeper and more profound understanding of of everything then when you do something like a subject like this okay so then you go okay where can i start to find with these you know inner moods of so the first thing I do is go on google and I immediately you know research inner moods so lord caitanya and what comes up you know lots of lectures a lot of cc verses you start looking through there’s a whole there’s a whole um chronology that someone compiled of lord chitanja’s life and when you look at this year this year that you know you go oh you know you start to see things much differently and that comes into the mix and you you realize okay the cc is divided into three sections you know and and the the the there’s not much about caitanya’s relationship with krishna except in the third you know it’s really that’s really what it’s more about and you you just begin to branch out into the history of sarvabauma bhattacharya what he did who he was and that’s called hermeneutics that’s the process and then you’re also processing it through your own lens so you’re gone i’m constantly going through a self-assessment am I awake enough to do this am I um have I do I understand what the word means do I understand the underlying impact of that word how does prabhupad use this word rasa how does he you know where does he use it in what context is how many meanings does he give it you just go off into so many tangents it’s like it’s like going from one website to another you just get oh here I found this here oh that looks interesting let me find this here let me find that there and pretty soon you’re living in this whole world and that’s the the what the um the devotees who are working on bonniepedia do that’s that’s how they bring you a whole subject fully and not entertained but but full of references to one thing so you can really explore the bonnie that’s why it’s called bonniepedia and that’s what we have to do prophet said he followed his gurusvani that was bhakti siddhanta’s instruction go preach krishna consciousness in the west prophet calls it his bonnie and that’s what we have to do and it’s an exciting journey but I only find it exciting for myself when I am tested okay what are you going to what what is it that you have to explain well I i better I better have a fairly deep fund of knowledge about what i’m explaining because i’m only going to be able to explain it for a short period of time so I have to have a deeper realization of what it is and obviously I failed in this one i thought I had an hour and a half actually but I failed this hour that far but that’s probably because there was just so much well we look we you covered a lot don’t be the least bit you know upset that you know you didn’t quite finish all of what you had studied we’ve you know we’ve done very well in trying to understand this topic so you know I thank you so much on it and thank you for our hour and a half we’ve never done what I don’t know i guess we could have should have or would have but you know we have to leave it at that yeah very wonderful talk you really speaking deeply on these topics um maybe we’ll come back again if we have time i’ll ask my colleagues if we can maybe have a part two we’ll see thank you very much cole pabato for all the work you and the strategic planning team have done continue to do it’s revolutionary it has opened the eyes of devotees all over the world it’s gotten everyone to increase their world com their international community of devotees i think you’ve you’ve turned the ship in a direction that it’s heading of course i’ve not done this but we do have a wonderful team and it’s you know it’s 13 14 devotees all working very hard trying to serve the devotional community it’s really just been a joy this last year being part of it and and i’m happy that you’re pleased and i’m happy that many of the the devotees are pleased I i know that they are so so thank you for that let’s say goodbye all glorious to srila prabhupada hari krishna glorious you
