I felt unwell, should I go on Harinam? The mind was flickering. Should I go or stay in the comfort of my home.I thought of all the precious devotees who viewed the Harinama with my previous live recordings. I started to see their disappointed faces, but at the same time, I’d realized that they would want me to do what is best for my health. The mind was still wavering. After all it is cold and dark, if I get further sick, I could end up in hospital. All such thoughts came floating within my mind, like rivers to the bay.

Fortunately, I had finished my rounds so my mind’s old excuse would not distract me. I started thinking about Srila Prabhupada and all his sacrifices, all the pain and suffering he endured, but despite his age, he still went to the west to distribute the ultimate truth to all. Still my mind flickered, the mind is more difficult to control than the wind. At that moment, the phone rang and Vasudeva my old friend asks me if I am going out on Harinama, I replied with a definite no. Vasudeva asked again, he can be quite pushy at times. I said no once again, but internally I wished to go, this was the reality, but I knew it was not practical for me to go, because I was feeling some pain. After some time, I decided to forget my pains and surrender to the devotees wishes.

Vasudeva kindly offerred to drive me into the city. As we reached the Harinam, I saw Govinda Prabhu leading the Harinama, at the time only a few devotees were initially present. My initial thought was that we needed many more devotees to make a wonderful harinama. I soon reprimanded my mind, it doesn’t matter if four devotees go out or four hundred go out, every Harinama is so special.

All of a sudden more devotees appeared, we had Rubin Prabhu, Parividha Prabhu, Sakshi Gopal Prabhu, Govinda Prabhu and Jivana Prabhu. Together with all the special souls the excitement of going out built up. I started to see passers-by join in. It was so amazing to see them dancing. I meditated on Lord Caitanya together with Lord Nityananda, I felt their strong presence. We made our way to Chinatown, I could see the smiling faces of all the passers-by, so many were waving at us with enthusiasm and eagerness to visualise the harinam party. What would I have done at home, missing this experience.

I felt the glow of the Harinama, I was excited to think I will be sending the footage to many people around the world on facebook. We slowly approached Chinatown with our strong presence. I could see Vayu prabhu with his pile of books, talking to the passers-by, they looked so appreciative, as they received a book. Srila Prabhupada’s books will most certainly change their lives. I felt so much gratitude to witness such an auspicious event.

A man approached me during the harinam, I asked him where he was from, he replied that he was a local resident who owns a restaurant in Chinatown, he explained to me that he felt so much peace by witnessing the Harinama. For many years he was observing the weekly harinam, and felt impelled to speak to me, after seeing me film the harinam on several occasions. The highlight of his week is to see the devotees enter Chinatown in a grand way, he felt it was so auspicious. I felt his appreciation for the devotees, and gave him an ‘On Chanting pamphlet.’ As he held the pamphlet tightly, I invited him to our temple, which was a few minutes away from Chinatown. He excitedly said that he would visit one day.

As the harinam proceeded, we stopped in one place, I’d noticed a family who were gazing with amazement. At one point one of the family members were standing next to Sakshi Gopal, who was singing at the time. This particular family member was a young women from Spain, she was so excited and overjoyed, memerised by the chanting and started to dance with the devotees. One of the devotees gave her the maha mantra on a card, she started to read the maha mantra and pointed the card to her family. These are the moments that we are always reminded off, as such moments will change the hearts of so many innocent souls.

I am am so sorry Srila Prabhupada for sometimes I follow my wicked mind, all I know there is nothing left for me, but to go out on the streets with all the exalted souls, and chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
