Archak Das: This is an open appeal to any person residing in Vrindavan. You must have noticed by now that even before the winter has set in, 60% of cows of Vrindavan are missing. Where are they? You must have wondered. But we all know the answer to that question. They have been taken by butchers. Demons in the garb of men have taken them to slaughter houses where they been first seperated from their calves and there after been given a slow and extremely painful death. SB 1.17.3, Translation:<\/p>\n
Although the cow is beneficial because one can draw religious principles from her, she was now rendered poor and calfless. Her legs were being beaten by a Sudra. There were tears in her eyes, and she was distressed and weak. She was hankering after some grass in the field. This verse describes the very essence of the suffering of cows in this age of Kali. We see cows in this condition everyday. Everywhere we can find them roaming, suffering, being beaten by sudras and miserably calfless. The mother suffers on the streets while we lie down on our beds, comfortable and warm. Thus they are being taken away in large numbers while our neglect knows no bounds. We worship the Supreme Cowherd Boy of Vrindavan while demons chew on the bones of those very cows of Vrindavan that are the dearest to Krishna. The demons munch on the flesh of cows with least bit of worries of our resistence. Their boldness has taken them to extent of threatening us with guns. So strong is their greed for cows flesh, the flesh of our mother. But is there not even a single sincere soul that can come forward and take charge of Krishna’s cows? I believe there are many of us who see the necessity of the time and take the responsibility. If you see what I see, if believe in the sanctity of cows and the great need to give them shelter and protection then come on out in our support. We can change the situation by taking the responsibility to ensure that the incidence of 23rd October is never repeated when over 12-15 cows were taken from Chaitanya Vihar by butchers brandishing guns. We here at Cow Protection Team, Vrindavan (Gau Raksha Dal, Vrindavan) are dedicated to serve mother cow day and night. All of us have pledged to give unconditional service to cows. We are engaged in this as the sole purpose of our life and are not bound by considerations of time or weather. We therefore invite anyone and everyone to kindly come forward and join hands. You can help in any capacity suitable to you that may be o Calling us whenever you see cow\/s in need of protection, shelter, medical attention or any other need ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT.( even 1am ,2am ,3am any time we are ready) o Personally serving in any of these services. o Spreading awareness about our cause and service amongst devotees. o Sharing our phone number among your acquaintances and spreading the word to call us for the sake of cows.<\/p>\n
We patrol the streets of Vrindavan every night from 11:00PM to 4:00AM. We welcome anyone with both arms open if you would like to help in this service. As Srila Prabhupada has said:<\/p>\n
SB 9.2.3 Purport One who becomes virdsana takes the vow to stand all night with a sword to give protection to the cows. Because Prsh was engaged in this way, it is to he understood that he had no dynasty. We can further understand from this vow accepted by Prshadhra how essential it is to protect the cows. Some son of a kshatriya would take this vow to protect the cows from ferocious animals, even at night. What then is to he said of sending cows to slaughterhouses? This is the most sinful activity in human society. We conclude this appeal with a heartfelt prayer to Lord Gopal to give the requisite intelligence to worthy people so that they see merit in our call and do the needful at the earliest. We would like to send out a special appeal to our foreigner devotees whom we have found to be far more sincere in the matter of cow protection, to take the responsibility of this great cause and set an example for the rest of us.<\/p>\n
