{"id":110228,"date":"2023-07-13T17:14:37","date_gmt":"2023-07-13T15:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=110228"},"modified":"2023-07-13T17:14:37","modified_gmt":"2023-07-13T15:14:37","slug":"midsummer-at-stonehenge-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=110228","title":{"rendered":"Midsummer at Stonehenge 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sakshi Gopal das<\/p>\n<p>There were pagans and potheads<br \/>\nand Indian chiefs<br \/>\nThere were druids and hippies<br \/>\nand mounted police<br \/>\nThere were drinkers and smokers<br \/>\nand drummers galore<br \/>\nWho played on through the night<br \/>\n&#8217;til their fingers were sore<\/p>\n<p>There was dancing, while some<br \/>\nstood around on the grass<br \/>\nSome huddled in blankets,<br \/>\nsome sat on their ass.<br \/>\nSome filmed the proceedings<br \/>\nwith smart mobile phones<br \/>\nAs everyone gathered<br \/>\naround the great stones&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>That have witnessed the turning<br \/>\non Salisbury Plain<br \/>\nOf season and century,<br \/>\nsunshine and rain<br \/>\nWitnessed chieftains and druids<br \/>\nand Celts offer thanks<br \/>\nWitnessed farmers and hippies<br \/>\nand soldiers in tanks&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Have seen tourists and picnickers,<br \/>\nbikers in leather<br \/>\nAnd ancient oak avenues<br \/>\npass into heather<br \/>\nSeen wars and invasions,<br \/>\nthe triumph of thieves<br \/>\nHave seen lovers and losers\u2013<br \/>\nbut who could believe&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>That the stones were now witness<br \/>\nto God\u2019s holy name<br \/>\nAs the chanters in saffron again and again<br \/>\nSang their mantra and danced<br \/>\nto the cymbal and drum\u2014<br \/>\nThat the people here gathered<br \/>\nwould eagerly come<br \/>\nTo celebrate KRISHNA! and R\u0100M! and HARE!<br \/>\nAs they waited for sunrise<br \/>\non Midsummer&#8217;s Day&#8230;?<\/p>\n<p>The floodlights shone out<br \/>\n&#8216;cross the fields as they came<br \/>\nin their hundreds and hundreds<br \/>\nlike moths to a flame<br \/>\nPast the wall-to-wall vehicles<br \/>\nrow upon row<br \/>\nTo the people who joined<br \/>\nin the throng that helped tow<br \/>\nOn the ropes of the chariot<br \/>\nyellow and red<br \/>\nof the Lord of the Universe<br \/>\n(so the man said)<\/p>\n<p>The procession proceeded<br \/>\napace through the fields<br \/>\nAs a BBC journalist<br \/>\nsaw the the appeal<br \/>\nAnd recorded the party<br \/>\n\u201cYou&#8217;ll see it next year\u201d<br \/>\nSo she captured some footage<br \/>\nand then disappeared<\/p>\n<p>There were takeaways lined up along the field edge<br \/>\n(From the smell of their cooking it sure wasn&#8217;t veg)<br \/>\nBut the hunger for food<br \/>\nand the hunger for love<br \/>\nAnd the hunger for sharing<br \/>\nThe Gift From Above<br \/>\nsaw FOOD FOR ALL<br \/>\ndishing out hot dahl and rice<br \/>\nAnd those freshly fried papadams,<br \/>\ncrispy and nice<\/p>\n<p>So the people queued up<br \/>\nwith their spouses and mates<br \/>\nAnd feasted from biodegradable plates<br \/>\n&#8216;Til the buckets were empty,<br \/>\nthe tubs were scraped clean &#8211;<br \/>\nAfter two thousand servings, a satisfied scene<br \/>\nAnd they called upon<br \/>\nKRISHNA and R\u0100M and HARE<br \/>\nAs they welcomed the sunrise<br \/>\non Midsummer&#8217;s Day<\/p>\n<p>Did they each feel their sanctity<br \/>\nsomehow restored &#8211; ? &#8211;<br \/>\nIn divine celebration<br \/>\nthey danced and adored<br \/>\nWith a jubilant heart<br \/>\nand a spiritual eye<br \/>\nThe rhythm and mantra<br \/>\nas old the sky&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>HARE KRISHNA<br \/>\n(they chant)<br \/>\nHARE KRISHNA<br \/>\n(they pray)<br \/>\nKRISHNA KRISHNA<br \/>\n(they follow with loud&#8230;)<br \/>\nHARE HARE<br \/>\nHARE R\u0100MA<br \/>\n(the song)<br \/>\nHARE R\u0100MA<br \/>\n(the hymn)<br \/>\nR\u0100MA R\u0100MA<br \/>\nHARE HARE<br \/>\n(to drumbeat and ring&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Of the karatal cymbals, percussion of old The mantra of angels<br \/>\nconnecting the soul<br \/>\nWith the Lord of Existence<br \/>\nbelow and above<br \/>\nReuniting the spark with the fire of His love<br \/>\nStill awaiting within us<br \/>\nif we could but see<br \/>\nThat flows like a river<br \/>\nwithin you and me.<\/p>\n<p>Some say we are energy,<br \/>\nspiritual light<br \/>\nAdrift from an ocean<br \/>\nof endless delight &#8211;<br \/>\nYet energy means<br \/>\nthat we&#8217;ve come from a source:<br \/>\nAnd primal<br \/>\nOriginal Person,<br \/>\nof course<\/p>\n<p>His realm of transcendence<br \/>\nis where we belong<br \/>\nWhere each step is a dance<br \/>\nand each word is a song<br \/>\nLet us chant the vibration &#8211;<br \/>\nR\u0100M!
