By Jambavan Dasa<\/strong><\/p>\n Last year myself and my good friend Yugala-kisora Prabhu decided to do something most people would consider completely insane\u2014namely, walk across the city of Detroit. Well, we did it and we lived to tell the tale! I shouldn\u2019t scare you because actually it was an incredible experience. Despite all of the bad things you hear about the city in the media these days, Detroit still has many wonderful qualities. For me I feel that its greatest attribute is its people. Despite the persistent crime that pervades the city, the people are generally very pious and God fearing. As we walked across the city in our dhotis and kurtas, people came out to talk to us, asked us questions, and expressed their appreciation that two priests would take to the streets to spread the word of God. We got out there to preach as Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu instructed and we felt the reciprocation.<\/p>\n \tThe only complaint I think either of us had was that we wished more devotees could have shared in this nectar. So this year we are extending an invitation to all the Vaishnavas. How would you like to throw off the chains of modernity and take up a simple life of renunciation for just two days? After all, is not austerity the wealth of the brahmanas? Leave your cell phones, credit cards, car, cameras, and laptops behind and just come with us. Pick up your japa beads, a couple of books, and a pair of kartals and set out with us on the morning of May 11th for a transcendental adventure. During the day we will say \u201cHare Krishna\u201d to as many people as we can, in the evening we will use our arms as pillows as we sleep underneath the stars, and in the morning we will end our pilgrimage at Belle Isle where Srila Prabhupada used to take his morning walk. On the island the devotees will be waiting for us with kirtan and an excellent feast. <\/p>\n \tIf I\u2019ve convinced you to come distribute the holy name with us, contact me for more details.
