The distinction between matter and spirit is an exact science. Srila Prabhupada told us, we should learn to not compromise and also not offend. That is an art. Realization is required to develop this art. To achieve realization we must accept inconvenient truths. In other words, spiritual facts which are opposed to popular ideas. One of these is the the truth about the climate.
\nSrimada Bhagavatam says sinful activities burden the Earth. Natural disturbances are the karmic reaction. The remedy is to reduce sinful activities and increase sacrifices for Krishna’s pleasure.
\nMaterialists think we can avoid the collective karma by developing new forms of energy, even if we continue to utilize the new energy for billions of sinful activities every day. But it is not possible to overpower the laws of karma. About 75 years ago Srila Prabhupada wrote an essay describing those who attempt this. It is found in Renunciation Through Wisdom 1.3.
\nThe Real Cause of Natural Disturbances:

\nWhen there are natural disturbances like blowing cyclones, too much heat or snowfall, and uprooting of trees by hurricanes, it is to be understood that the demoniac population is increasing and so the natural disturbance is also taking place. There are many countries on the globe, even at the present moment, where all these disturbances are current. This is true all over the world. There is insufficient sunshine, and there are always clouds in the sky, snowfall and severe cold. These assure that such places are inhabited by demoniac people who are accustomed to all kinds of forbidden, sinful activity.( End Quote).
\nMother Earth told Maharaja Prthu,
\nSB 4.18.7.
\nMy dear King, not only are grains and herbs being used by nondevotees, but, as far as I am concerned, I am not being properly maintained. Indeed, I am being neglected by kings who are not punishing these rascals who have turned into thieves by using grains for sense gratification. Consequently I have hidden all these seeds, which were meant for the performance of sacrifice.( End Quote).
\nThe Attitude Of Powerful Secular Planmakers:

\nIn the past, R\u0101va\u1e47a attempted to build a stairway to heaven, claiming this was for humanity’s benefit. Actually, he was trying to cheat the Supreme Lord, R\u0101macandra. But he was unsuccessful. History repeats itself, for now we find that R\u0101va\u1e47a’s descendants are attempting to cheat the Lord in the name of planning to benefit society…Every demon is vainly proud, thinking no one is more intelligent and esteemed than himself. Therefore the overpowering desires that urge him on to perform various activities are, according to him, ultimately beneficial for human society. In the end, of course, it is inevitably revealed that all his aspirations were illusory and unrealistic. Yet despite this revelation, the demons continue to influence the populace through manipulations and lies… His desires are insatiable, and so even billions of dollars cannot appease them.( End Quote).
\nLike Ravana, planmakers today think they are acting for the benefit of society. But their latest technology cannot nullify collective karma of billions of sinful activities commited on the Earth daily. . They cannot solve the problem of natural disturbances because they only acknowledge physical laws. They dont know how the world actually operates. They dont understand that using grains for sense gratification, without first offering them in sacrifice for Krishna, is violence which burdens Mother Earth.
\nLet’s look at one prominent plan maker. An apocalyptic style documentary on climate change titled “An Inconvenient Truth” came out in 2006. It was produced by Al Gore. He won an Oscar for it in 2007. The same year, Gore and a UN panel on climate change jointly received a Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel committee praised them for increasing worldwide knowledge on the issue.
\nGore then co- founded ” Generation Investment Management”. This is an investment firm which increases profits by promoting businesses as environmentally conscious. From this he has made millions, if not billions, of dollars. He charges about $100,000 for a speaking engagement. As described by Srila Prabhupada 75 years ago, Gore is pursuing fame, power, and exorbitant wealth, while thinking his activities are benefiting the world.
\nBut what are the actual effects? Schools throughout the world, showed students the documentary. It purposely instills a sense of impending doom. This has the greatest effect on the most conscientious. ISKCON also wants to reach the most conscientious. These are people who can understand the fact that death is inevitable and lasting peace is unattainable while identifying with a temporary material body. This is the real inconvenient truth. But ISKCON has the solution.
\nThe documentary simply disturbs peoples minds. It doesn’t give the real solution to environmental disturbances. It doesnt adress the bigger problem- we are all doomed to die. It promotes feverish activism for a material means to avoid doom. This reinforces the fundamental illusion of material existence. It tends to increase the attitude that material activism is morally superior to activities aimed at saving souls.
\nThus, propaganda is being used by powerful individuals to incresse their wealth, power, and fame. For this end they drag people toward the darker regions of material illusion.
\nEven within ISKCON some devotees began to say it is irresponsible to focus exclusively on saving souls. They said we must agree with the solution given by the materialists. Then we must join the fight to avoid imminent apocalypse. Being swayed by fallacious idealism, they ignored the real cause of natural catastrophes.
\nAs time passes, the ability to manipulate the masses, regarding a specific issue, decreases. As Srila Prabhupada explained, the billionaire planmakers perpetually devise new ways to manipulate.
\nFor years, Bill Gates was a prominent activist for reducing climate change. However, in October 2025 he wrote a public paper which he intends to present to the UN.
\nToward the beginning he wrote:
\n“There\u2019s a doomsday view of climate change that goes like this:
\nIn a few decades, cataclysmic climate change will decimate civilization. The evidence is all around us\u2014just look at all the heat waves and storms caused by rising global temperatures. Nothing matters more than limiting the rise in temperature.

\nGates goes on to describe the poorest countries as the greatest victims of climate change. He says we must now focus on eliminating poverty in these countries. Eliminating poverty, and increasing prosperity, sounds like objective benefits for masses of starving people. But these phrases are ” doublespeak”. They don’t mean what they appear to at face value. Gates is actually talking about developing technology in ” third world” countries. By this he will be in on the ground floor for capilitaizing on large sections of the African continent, and numerous countries elsewhere. (Please take note: there is a strong correlation between developing nations and increases in meat eating).
\nWe shouldn’t be suprised if eliminating poverty, by increasing technology in poor countries, soon becomes the prominent ideal which everyone feels pressured to support
\nDevotees must not be fooled and pressured to adopt ideals manufactured by materialistic planmakers. We must understand that the real cause of suffering is forgetting Krishna, and the real solution is remembering Krishna; despite the inconvenience of this being at odds with ideals which the masses consider sacrosanct.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
