{"id":11958,"date":"2013-10-09T12:48:10","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T11:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=11958"},"modified":"2013-10-09T15:40:51","modified_gmt":"2013-10-09T14:40:51","slug":"world-holy-name-week-celebrations-2013-gauranga-centre-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=11958","title":{"rendered":"World Holy name Week Celebrations 2013 &#8211; Gauranga Centre, Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Sudama Vipra Das<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World Holyname Week is celebrated throughout ISKCON fraternity every year to propagate congregational chanting of the holy name.<\/p>\n<p>To fulfill Srila Prabhupada\u2019s greatest desire &#8211; to spread the chanting of the Holy Names all over the world, the Governing Body Commission (GBC) of ISKCON established World Holy Name Day to commemorate Srila Prabhupada Arrival anniversary to the west, during Srila Prabupada\u2019s Centennial in 1996. The observance of World Holy Name Day, an annual ISKCON event is to be held in connection with the anniversary observances of Srila Prabhupada\u2019s arrival in the USA Sept. 17, 1965 \u2013 (GBC resolution 2006)<\/p>\n<p>On seeing the tremendous success and potential of this event, in 2008 GBC resolved \u2018World Holy Name Day\u2019 into \u2018World Holy Name Week\u2019 and to celebrate this event for an extended period of time.  The period starts on the appearance day of Srila Bhaktivinod Thakura and also includes the disappearance day of Srila Namacarya Haridas Thakura, Sri Visvarupa Mahotsava, Acceptance of sannyasa by Srila Prabhupada and ends on the Vedic calendar date for Srila Prabhupada, the greatest ambassador of the holy names, arrival in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Most temples and communities arrange special nama-yajnas throughout the entire period. Some arrange whenever possible. The intention is that the performance of sankirtan in its many forms, including japa, all over the world to encourage all people of all faiths to participate to create auspiciousness over the whole planet.<\/p>\n<p>We celebrated the world holy name week at the Gauranga centre from 17th Sep to 28th September by immersing the devotees in the nectar of Harinaam Sankirtan for two hours every day. The beginning of the Harinaam week saw an overwhelming participation of quite a large crowd of devotees. Various devotees took turns in leading the harinaam through out the ten day period and it was quite encouraging to see devotees joining the wonderful harinaam sankirtan inspite of it being a working week.<\/p>\n<p>Kind arrangement of prasadam for devotees ensured that the devotees were encouraged to join and sing and glorify the lord for 10 full days. Devotees were so attached to the singing that we had an extended run of Harinaam on the 28th as well , where matajis led kirtan all the way till shayan aarti.<\/p>\n<p>Our heartfelt thanks to one and all devotees who encouraged us by participating in glorifying the Lord and making the material world a better place to live.<\/p>\n<p>Attached below are few photographs of the same.
