He was born in a <span class=\"SpellE\"><span class=\"GramE\"><i>vaisya<\/i><\/span><\/span>     family in a small village beside Padma River in Bangladesh. Following his father, he earned his livelihood by selling grains. He was devotionally inclined from childhood and spent many hours singing <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>bhajans<\/i><\/span> and hearing     <i>Krishna-<span class=\"SpellE\">katha<\/span><\/i>. He was married very young but when his wife died in 1849, he immediately left home and went to <span class=\"SpellE\">Vrindavan<\/span>. For the next 30 years he lived in <span class=\"SpellE\">Vrindavan<\/span>    wandering around the forests and pastime places of Srimati Radharani and Lord Sri Krishna while absorbed in chanting Holy Names:          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;color:green\">HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA <span class=\"SpellE\">KRISHNA<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">KRISHNA<\/span> HARE <span class=\"SpellE\">HARE<\/span>|<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;color:green\">HARE RAMA HARE RAMA <span class=\"SpellE\">RAMA<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">RAMA<\/span> HARE <span class=\"SpellE\">HARE<\/span><\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;color:green\">||<\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\"><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">He would lie prostrate, offering his humble obeisances to the residents of <span class=\"SpellE\">Vraja<\/span>, considering them as embodiments of Lord Krishna. During this time he took <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> initiation from Bhagavata dasa, a disciple of Srila Jagannatha dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span>.          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> was a renunciation personified. He chanted 200,000 names of Lord each day and stayed in isolated places, eating only what would come of     its own accord and sleeping wherever he found himself at night time. He had very few possessions: <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>Tulasi<\/i><\/span><i>-mala<\/i> (<span class=\"SpellE\"><i>Tulasi<\/i><\/span> beads) around his neck; another <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>Tulasi<\/i><\/span><i>-mala<\/i>    on which he chanted; and a few books such as <i>Narottama Dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Thakura&#8217;s<\/span> Prarthana<\/i> and <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>Prema<\/i><\/span><i> Bhakti <span class=\"SpellE\">Chandrika<\/span><\/i>. He refused service from anyone and     would not let anyone serve him, though many tried.     <span style=\"color:#000033\"> <\/span>In 1894, he heard that Lord <span class=\"SpellE\">Caitanya\u2019s<\/span> birthplace has been discovered and so he came to     <i>Navadvipa-Mayapur Dhama<\/i>, knowing the two <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>Dhamas<\/i><\/span> are non-different.          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">In Navadvipa-Mayapur, he again wandered around the places of the Lord\u2019s pastimes absorbed in ecstasy of separation. <i>His renunciation was intense and genuine. He would dress himself in the discarded cloth used to dress corpses, beg rice from householders, and cook with discarded earthen pots. He would dance on the banks of the Ganges chanting the Holy Names of Krishna; at other times he would lie on the ground unconscious. Others tried to imitate Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji\u2019s<\/span> renunciation wanting to gain fame for <span class=\"GramE\">themselves<\/span>, but they all fell away into disgrace<\/i>.          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">In 1908 Srila Gaura <span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> Dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> lost his sight. He refused attempts to take him to an eye specialist, preferring instead to chant and worship Lord Krishna. He     stopped travelling at this point. He would sit in his <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>bhajana-kutir<\/i><\/span> deeply absorbed in Krishna&#8217;s pastimes.          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;color:#C00000\">ANYTHING TO AVOID MATERIALISTS<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">Srila Gaura <span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> Dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> encountered many disturbances to his <i>Hari-<span class=\"SpellE\">bhajana<\/span><\/i> from the materialists who sought benedictions from     him. They all received heavy instructions from <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span>, but very few were able to understand that these instructions were actually for their eternal benefit.          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">One time <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> Maharaj arrived at the house of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura dressed in very expensive clothes. When asked about this, he explained people would think he is bogus and so not come     to him for benedictions.          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">At other times he sat on the porch of a prostitute\u2019s house to avoid people, and lived under an upturned boat hoping no one would find him there. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">During the last 6 months of his life, he resided in an abandoned latrine (converted into a room) in a <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>dharmasala<\/i><\/span> to avoid the materialists and concentrate on chanting the Holy Names: <\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA <span class=\"SpellE\">KRISHNA<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">KRISHNA<\/span> HARE <span class=\"SpellE\">HARE<\/span> \/ HARE RAMA HARE RAMA <span class=\"SpellE\">RAMA<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">RAMA<\/span> HARE <span class=\"SpellE\">HARE<\/span><\/span><\/i>     <span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">. He left this world at this <\/span><span class=\"SpellE\"><i><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">dharmasala<\/span><\/i>         <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\"> on 19 November 1915 on <span class=\"SpellE\">Utthana<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">Ekadasi<\/span>, at the end of the <span class=\"SpellE\">Kartika<\/span>         <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>vrata<\/i><\/span>.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><span style=\"font-size:8.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><span><!--[if gte vml 1]&gt;   &lt;![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"755\" height=\"567\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads3\/SRILA%20GAURA%20KISORA%20DASA%20BABAJI_files\/image005.jpg\" alt=\"Srila Gaura Kisora Dasa Bhajana Kutir.JPG\"><!--[endif]--><\/span>     <span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;letter-spacing:.3pt\">                  <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span style=\"color:#C00000\">SRILA GAURA KISORA DAS BABAJI\u2019S BHAJAN KUTIR <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span style=\"color:#C00000\">AT \u201c<\/span><\/b><b><i><span style=\"color:#7030A0\">SVANANDA SUKHADA KUNJA<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span style=\"color:#C00000\">\u201d, THE HOUSE OF SRILA BHAKTIVINODA THAKURA <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><span class=\"GramE\"><b><span style=\"color:#C00000\">at<\/span><\/b>     <\/span><b><span style=\"color:#C00000\"> Godrumadvipa, Navadvipa-Mayapur<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;color:#C00000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;color:#C00000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"text-align:center\"><b><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;color:#C00000\">THE DISAPPEARANCE OF SRILA GAURA-KISORA BABAJI<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">On 19 November 1915, on <span class=\"SpellE\">Utthana<\/span>     <span class=\"SpellE\">Ekadasi<\/span> in the <span class=\"SpellE\">Kartika-vrata<\/span>, Srila <span class=\"SpellE\">GauraKisora<\/span> dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> re-entered into his eternal loving pastimes with the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna.     After Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura had heard of his disappearance, he went to the place where Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> lived. At that time different persons from different temples in the area began to fiercely     <span class=\"GramE\">argued<\/span> to claim the spiritual body of Srila <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span>. But Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura obstructed them from doing so. The inspector of the police of Navadvipa arrived at the scene.                  <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">Srila Bhaktisiddhanta in a voice as deep as thunder said, &#8220;<b><i>I am the only disciple of <span class=\"SpellE\">Paramahamsa<\/span>     <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> Maharaja. Even though I have not accepted <span class=\"SpellE\">sannyasa<\/span>, I am a celibate <span class=\"SpellE\">brahmacari<\/span> and by the grace of <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> Maharaja I am not secretly     addicted to abominable habits or involved in fornication as some monkey-like people <span class=\"GramE\">are<\/span>. If there is someone amongst the people here present who is a <span class=\"SpellE\">renunciate<\/span> of stainless character, then he     can have <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> Maharaja&#8217;s <span class=\"SpellE\">samadhi<\/span>. We have no objection to that. He, who within the last year, or the last six months, three months, one month or at least within the last three days, has not     had illicit connection with a woman will be able to touch this spiritual blissful body. If anyone else touches it he will be completely ruined.<\/i>     <\/b>\u201d          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">Hearing this, the superintendent of police said, &#8220;How is it that he can prove this?&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Thakura replied, &#8220;<i>I have faith in their word<\/i>&#8220;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><i><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">At this, one-by-one all the bogus <span class=\"SpellE\">babajis<\/span> slipped away without a word. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati then claimed the <span class=\"SpellE\">samadhi<\/span><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">After this, several persons approached Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura and said, &#8220;<i>Before Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> disappeared, he requested that his body be bound with ropes and be dragged through the streets of Navadvipa Dhama, and thus, be bathed in the dust of the Dhama. Therefore, we should follow     these instructions of Srila <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> Maharaja     <\/i>.&#8221;          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">Then Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura spoke up and said, &#8220;My spiritual master, on whose shoulders reside the Supreme Lord <span class=\"SpellE\">Krishnacandra<\/span>, has said this in a very, very deep mood of humility in order to destroy the pride of those persons who are opposing the Supreme Lord. Even though we are inexperienced, foolish and offensive, still, I will     not let his instruction be misinterpreted. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu took the spiritual body of Srila Haridasa Thakura, when he disappeared, on His lap and began to dance. Just see how his glories have been described. So therefore, we are also following     in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya. Place the transcendental body of Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> above our heads.&#8221;          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">According to the regulations from the <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>Samakara<\/i><\/span><i> <span class=\"SpellE\">Dipika<\/span><\/i>, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura with his own hands prepared the <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>samadhi<\/i><\/span>    of his spiritual master. His Samadhi was on the western bank of the Ganga in <span class=\"SpellE\">Kuliyagrama<\/span> at the place called <span class=\"SpellE\">Mutanchada<\/span> in the present town of Navadvipa. Later on, by the desire of Srila Gaura    <span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span>         dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span>, the place of his <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>samadhi<\/i><\/span> gradually became engulfed by the changing current of the Ganga. When the <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>samadhi<\/i><\/span>        was within very close proximity to Ganga Devi, in 1932, his <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>samadhi<\/i><\/span> was moved under the instructions of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, from that place to a place in         Sri Mayapur Dhama where the Caitanya Math is presently situated. Next to Sri <span class=\"SpellE\">Sri<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">Gandharvika<\/span>-Giridhari Temple inside the Sri Caitanya Math campus is the Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span>        Dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji\u2019s<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>samadhi<\/i><\/span> temple.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:Consolas\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Consolas\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"color:green\">Directions to Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> Dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji<\/span> Samadhi:<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color:green\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">#1) Srila Gaura-<span class=\"SpellE\">Kisora<\/span> dasa <span class=\"SpellE\">Babaji\u2019s<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\"><i>samadhi<\/i><\/span> is at Sri Caitanya Math on Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Marg, which is about 3kms from ISKCON Sri Mayapur <span class=\"SpellE\">Candrodaya<\/span> Temple or half km from <span class=\"SpellE\">Srivasa<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">Angan<\/span>    (the house of <span class=\"SpellE\">Srivasa<\/span> <span class=\"SpellE\">Pandita<\/span>).          <\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt\">#2) Sri Caitanya Math is a stopover during \u201cNavadvipa-Mandala Parikrama\u201d which is organized every year about 2 weeks before <span class=\"SpellE\">Guara-Purnima<\/span> Festival at <span class=\"SpellE\">Sridham<\/span> Mayapur.
