The famous of the Ratha yatra festival was held for the second time in Jember, East Java Indonesia on March 30, 2014. The ratha yatra was done along with the Hindu New Year celebration-a day before silence day in Bali. For the Hindu in Indonesia this time was a time to clean the earth from all bad things. But for devotees this was the perfect time to spread the mercy of Lord Jagannnath. <\/p>\n

That morning in Sukoreno village, Jember, the sun shine brightly and the bird chirping nicely, the weather was so friendly with cool breeze of the fresh air. It was like that the Mother Earth was eager to welcome the Lord on Ratha Yatra festival. The festival was organized by His grace Advaita prabhu and supported by His grace Balaram Bhakta prabhu,his grace Karambhajan prabhu, His grace Sandya Avatara prabhu, His grace Brajanagara Prabhu and all devotees in Jember. <\/p>\n

The Ratha yatra started at 10.00 am local time with Homa yagya. The chariot of the Lord Jagannath was decorated beautifully by devotees the day before. They put so many fruits on the chariot. After the homa, a class about Rathaytra was given by H.H. Subhag Swami Mahraja through teleconference lively from Bangladesh. The devotees was enthusiastically listening the class and their spirit to do the ratha yatra was fire up after heard the class. Srila Prabhupada wrote in a letter \u201c For the present your endeavour should be to make rathayatra festival grand and successful. You should arrange the procession and procedure so nicely that all the neighborhood people may be attracted to join the procession.\u201d<\/b><\/i> (SPL to Upendra, 1st<\/sup>June, 1968).<\/p>\n

The devotees came from around cities in Indonesia such as Bali, Jakarta, Banyuwangi, Malang, Rembang, Surabaya, and Probolinggo. They came by train, bus and other small car with their family and friends. The devotees started pulled the Lord at 07.00 pm. local time. The melodious kirtan brought people from all directions as if eager flocks of swans just discovered a clear reservoir of cool water in hot summer. Very soon the route and the temple became full of people, mostly from other faiths; there were people everywhere \u2013 young and old, and the chariot with the Deities of Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra, who were carved itself by His Grace Brajanagar das from East Java, stood magnificiently like the Sumeru mountain, glowing in the sun. Everyone was eagerly gazing at Gaura Nitai on the palanquin and Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra on the chariot. Everyone present came forward and pulled the chariot to the main road. Security for the Ratha was provided by local authorities and a group of local musicians playing nice tunes followed the chariot. The route of the ratha yatra was crowded by people who wanted to get darsan from the Lord. The devotees distributed the prasadam to the people along the route. They ran out of prasadam to distribute because more people eagerly took prasadam, even the fruits decorated the chariot also ran out taken by the people. They believed that by taking the food offered to the Lord it would bring a fortune in their life. Devotees also did book distribution and many took Prabhupada\u2019s books and everyone happily honoured mahaprasad. When the chariot arrived at temple, there was a huge crowd still following the chariot. An enthusiastic kirtan ensued and all were served mahaprasad. Indeed, those who are unfortunate and would not come to Jagannatha, the Lord Himself goes to give them His mercy and make them fortunatethe I took 4 kilometers around the village.<\/p>\n

We hope that Prabhupad is pleased and bless the devotees who worked so hard and organized such a wonderful Ratha-yatra. Srila Prabhupada mentioned in his letter that \u201c I thank you all very much for making the rathayatra festival so successful. Please convey my gratitude to all the boys and girls who participated in this great transcendental service.\u201d<\/b><\/i>(SPL to Upendra, 4th<\/sup> July 1968). He also blessed all devotees as he stated in his other letter that \u201c\u2026may Krishna bless you all for your sincere service that you may all go on making more and more advancement in Krishna Consciousness.<\/b><\/i>\u201d (SPL to Jayananda das, 19th<\/sup> July, 1976).<\/p>\n
