Sannyasa means to give up all activities not favorable to Krishna consciousness.

One of the inner truths of World Holy Name Week is to put aside all activities not related to Krishna consciousness. This is an opportunity to increase our chanting and hearing. Cultivate those items favorable for the outreach effort of Krishna consciousness. And also cultivate those items favourable for the inreach effort of Krishna consciouses.

H.H. Satsvarupa Goswami Maharaja explains that when we chant more ourselves, we are more ready and eager to speak about the glories of chanting to others. A preacher must have taste and realization to move forward and share what he or she has tasted with others.

“You must take sannyasa to preach!”, one of Srila Prabhupada’s godbrothers exclaimed. And also Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur beckoned to him in dreams.

“How horrible!” was the reaction of our own dear Srila Prabhupada. Yet, Srila Prabhpuada sacrificed for you and me. He accepted the saffron cloth of a mendicant, the danda, and the renounced lifestyle. He had no home, but the world was his home. As a result he built a house in which the whole world can live. And that house continues to expand both ISKCON’s outreach activities. And to strengthen the foundation of that house, we have inreach activities.

World Holy Name Week is constituted of both outreach and inreach activities. For outreach, we have so many World Holy Name Week initiatives like Harinam Sankirtan with Srila Prabhupada’s transcendental book distribution.

One of World Holy Name Week’s inreach programs, is the World Holy Name Week Japa Marathon or “Japathon”.

Often when I travel, devotees ask me where I live. As I am generally moving from place to place for Krishna conscious programs, I don’t always know what to say. But one day I had a realisation. My hand was in my japa bag, fingering my japa beads. I explained to the devotee that whenever my hand is in my japa bag, then I feel am at home. I am at home with Lord Krishna in the form of His Holy Names.

A Japathon is an opportunity for all devotees to spend more time at home with the Holy Names by taking a pledge to either begin chanting or, if they are already chanting, to increase the quantity and quality of their rounds.

Please click on this link to join the japathon.

http://www.worldholynameweek.com/16-weeks-chanting-challenge/

The “16-Weeks chanting challenge” throws the following challenge to its participant:

◦ If you are not chanting, then during the challenge is to start chanting, say, 1 round every day and then try to increase the number of rounds every week.

◦ If you are already chanting but not chanting minimum 16 rounds every day, then challenge yourself to reach minimum 16 rounds by the end of challenge, by steadily increasing the daily rounds chanted every week.

If you are already chanting 16 or more rounds, then the challenge is to increase the quality of chanting by attentively chanting and then to go beyond, as much as possible every day, without compromising your other services.

And here are score cards to keep track of your japa. Congregations can make goals with each member contributing to that goal.

http://www.worldholynameweek.com/japathon-cards/

Srila Prabhupada’s Sannyasa is a great opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the essence of Krishna consciousness – the Chanting of the Holy Names!

Chant Hare Krishna and Be Happy!

By Ekalavya das

As World Holy Name Week 2014 progresses from day 4 to day 5, I contemplate the supreme sacrifice made by Srila Prabhupada to take sannyasa.
