By Mayesvara Dasa<\/strong> ACBSP<\/p>\n Everyone has become very secretive about not sharing any personal data related to their medical or banking records because identity theft is at epidemic levels because. <\/span>Many people are not even comfortable about publishing their address in the local telephone book and some even block their caller ID signal. <\/span>That\u2019s because they feel more protected when the bad guys can\u2019t get easy access to this type of information. <\/span>These are examples of how how keeping something secret <\/span>implies that it is hidden. <\/span><\/p>\n A hidden treasure or a cryptic code are classic similar examples of things that are secret, <\/span>If we want to find the treasure or understand a cryptic message, we need specific knowledge. <\/span>To locate the treasure we need a reliable map that will take us to it. <\/span> <\/span>If we want to decipher a secret message we need the algorithm or hash key to convert it back into a language we can understand. <\/p>\n Chapter nine of the Bhagavad Gita is referred to as: <\/span>\u201cThe Most Confidential Knowledge\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span>and in the first two verses Lord Krishna tells Arjuna:<\/p>\n \u201cThe Supreme Personality of Godhead said: <\/span>My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge <\/span>and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence. <\/span>This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. <\/span>It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.\u201d <\/span>\u2013 Bhagavad Gita As It Is; <\/span>Chapter 9, <\/span>\u201cThe Most Confidential Knowledge,\u201d Text 1 & 2. <\/span><\/span>LINK:<\/span><\/b> http:\/\/www.vedabase.com\/en\/bg\/ <\/span>Here Krishna tells Arjuna that he is going to share with him knowledge related to how he can become free from the miseries of material existence and he unambiguously says this information is: \u201cghuya-tamam\/confidential\u201d <\/span>and \u201craja ghuyam\/most secret.\u201d <\/span><\/span>Yet everything Krishna instructs Arjuna is clearly recorded in the Bhagavad Gita, so how secret could it be?<\/p>\n Large corporations get into serious legal problems when confidential information about their clients get hacked by cyber thief\u2019s. <\/span> <\/span>Governments spend huge amounts of money keeping all sorts of information secret from the public for a variety of reasons. <\/span>Long standing careers of politicians, athletes and celebrities are often ruined very quickly when someone discloses secrets about their personal life. <\/span>This very thing just recently happened to Bill Cosby & Hillary Clinton. <\/span>Similar disgraces have wreaked havoc in the lives of Arnald Swartznegger, numerous senators and most notoriously President Nixon in regards to the Watergate scandals. <\/span>Some secrets are so important that when they get revealed there are serious consequences. The freedom of former CIA employee Edward Snowden is dependent on him being granted political asylum from other governments because in 2013, he leaked classified information from the U.S. National Security Agency and is now a fugitive.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bhagavad-Gita was originally spoken 120,000,000 years ago to the Sun God Vivisvan, (BG. 4.1) <\/span>and it was then republished 5000 years ago when Krishna spoke it again to Arjuna. <\/p>\n The Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku. This supreme science was thus received through the chain of disciplic succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that way. But in course of time the succession was broken, and therefore the science as it is appears to be lost. \u2013 Bhagavad Gita As It Is; <\/span>Chapter 4, <\/span>\u201cTranscendental Knowledge,\u201d Text 1 & 2. <\/span>LINK:<\/span><\/b> http:\/\/www.vedabase.com\/en\/bg\/ Those facts alone make the content of the Gita the oldest and most widely dispatched conversation in the entire cosmic creation! <\/span>More recently, since the late 1960\u2019s, there has been a nonstop fleet of devotees going out to invite the public to please take a copy of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is and read it. <\/span>When anyone says \u201cHare Krishna\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span>to a baby-boomer they think of airports, or eccentric kids who wore bed sheets, shaved their heads, banged on tambourines and chanted in the streets. <\/span><\/p>\n Unlike other highly suspicious \u201cSecret Organizations\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span>such as The Knights Templar, The Freemasons, the Illuminati, and the Bildenburg group there is nothing \u201csecret\u201d about the Hare Krishna movement. <\/span>We aggressively distribute literature explaining what our mission is, what we teach, and what we believe. <\/span>We request donations to defer the costs for distributing our unsurpassed world class translations of Vedic knowledge, but a lot of our sacred scriptures are also given away freely. <\/span>We have thousands of temples and centers all over the world where we invite the public on a regular basis to come enjoy our vegetarian food, daily classes in the Vedic science of the soul, and the famous Hare Krishna mantra all for free! <\/span>We hold numerous large public events in prominent parks and host huge parades down the biggest streets in cities all over the world. <\/span> <\/span>The effort of a relatively small group of dedicated devotees is so ubiquitous that we often fool the public into thinking that there are many more hundreds of thousands of active followers of Krishna then there actually are! <\/span>(Although those numbers are increasing exponentially especially in the recently liberated countries of Eastern Europe) <\/p>\n Everyone has something to say about the Hare Krishna movement,.. so how can Krishna accurately state that what he taught Arjuna is a secret?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The answer can be understood when we consider that there are many examples of how sometimes might be right in front of us, but we just don\u2019t notice it because our attention is on something else. <\/span>It is said that when a man walks down the street, the hair dresser will see his hair, the tailor will notice his clothing, and the pick pocket will know exactly where his wallet is! <\/span>We see the things we are familiar with or what we are looking for. <\/span><\/p>\n This occurs so naturally we hardly realize it and that is why we are so fascinated by magicians! <\/span>We know that what the prestidigitator does right in front of our eyes is not possible, yet even with that advanced understanding we still can\u2019t figure out how he got the elephant from one side of the stage to the other with the snap of a silk curtin! <\/span>If we want to know how the illusion works we have to inquire from the slight-of-hand <\/i>artist how the trick works and if he is agreeable he will reveal the secret behind the trick. <\/span>Of course there are a whole lot of people who are so consumed with earning a living, raising their family, paying their bills, keeping their car running and cleaning their home they don\u2019t have the time or interest in studying the art of magic.<\/p>\n Yet this is exactly the same reason why so many people only see the strange dress and the banging of hand symbols and drums when they are in the presence of devotees chanting the names of God. <\/span>Few have the time or interest to inquire why devotees make such a spectacle of themselves. <\/span>This is because they don\u2019t realize how they are under the influence of the greatest master magicians illusionary skills. <\/span>The Sanskrit word for illusion is maya, and it refers to Gods ability to elude us by the three modes of nature, Goodness Passion & Ignorance.<\/p>\n \u201cThis divine energy of Mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature (maya), is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me can easily cross beyond it.\u201d \u2013 Bhagavad Gita As It Is; <\/span>Chapter 7, <\/span>\u201cKnowledge of the Absolute,\u201d Text 14. <\/span>LINK:<\/span><\/b> http:\/\/www.vedabase.com\/en\/bg\/ The three modes of nature can be compared to the three small cups used by the street trickster. <\/span>He asks someone to follow the marble placed under a one of them, then shuffles them around right in front of the eyes of his audience. <\/span>We commonly referred to this as the \u201cShell Game.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Some people are so expert at this form of deception they can actually earn quite a bit of pocket cash from proud individuals who think they can follow the shuffling process. <\/span>The street magician knows he will earn his days income when he meets the individual who believes he can win at this game from the expert who is actually controlling it. <\/span>This is similar to how the conditioned individual thinks he can just step out of his own material trauma and figure out who God is on his own. <\/span>In both cases the one who is in being fooled is the proud individual. Even though they have no training or expertise in the deceptive art of the Shell Game or how the three modes of nature have bound him with material conditioning, still he thinks he can beat the system which is stacked against him! <\/span><\/p>\n This is the reason why the message Krishna taught Arjuna remains secret despite how obviously we shout it from the street corner or how earnestly we try to explain it to people. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBewildered by false ego, strength, pride, lust and anger, the demons become envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in their own bodies and in the bodies of others, and blaspheme against the real religion.\u201d <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>Bhagavad Gita As It Is; <\/span>Chapter 16, \u201cThe Divine and Demoniac Faith,\u201d Text 18. <\/span><\/span>LINK:<\/span><\/b> http:\/\/www.vedabase.com\/en\/bg\/ Krishna reserves the right to not reveal himself to those who are envious or proud therefore they can\u2019t see the reality of their own very fragile positon which is right in front of them all the time!<\/p>\n \u201cI am never manifest to the foolish and unintelligent. LINK:<\/b> <\/span>http:\/\/www.vedabase.com\/en\/bg\/ <\/span><\/p>\n Western culture in particular has breed false pride into everyone from birth with mantras like: \u201cDo our own thing. <\/span>Think for yourself. <\/span>Don\u2019t let anybody tell you what to do!\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/span>This may sound like good advice in a dog-eat-dog world where we must stand out in front of the crowd to get the job, win the prize, or earn a scholarship. <\/span>But thinking one can sort out the mysteries of life on one\u2019s own is the biggest illusion we can fall into.<\/p>\n We see the rugged individual as a folk hero and we hardly notice those who humbly go about their business quietly. <\/span>We idolize, artists, athletes, movie stars and the rich even though many of them are terrible role models, egocentric narcissists, and in some cases even violent or remarkably selfish. <\/span>Problem solving and thinking outside of the box is not unilaterally wrong, but when it\u2019s time to get something done it behooves us to ask what is it we are attempting to do, for who, and why? <\/span>Is it simply to fuel our relentlessly unchecked demanding senses in a new and improved way? <\/span>Are we being forced to act helplessly driven by our own egocentric desires for some flavor of profit adoration or distinction? <\/span>If so we are acting in the mode of ignorance and it is that ignorance which becomes the veil of maya that makes it impossible for one to understand just how out of touch and self-deluded they are. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI am the lord of everything. I am the enjoyer. I am perfect, powerful and happy. I am the richest man, surrounded by aristocratic relatives. There is none so powerful and happy as I am. However for those who are willing to objectively look for it, there is a lot of evidence that confirms how the majority of the population is totally trapped in their own over-evaluated opinion of themselves. <\/span>Just see all the fanfare that surrounds all the televised awards shows, the hype regarding halls of fame and the absurdities recorded in the Gunnies Book Of World Records!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the Vedas, human life is not meant just to experience a bunch of sensuous thrills. <\/span>It is awarded to us for the purpose of understanding how to get out of the cycle of material suffering. <\/span> <\/span>Due to the influence of this great material illusion maya and the three modes of nature, we lose track of the suffering just like we lose track of the hidden marble in the Shell Game. <\/span>We get distracted by God\u2019s beautiful assistant called \u201cMaya\u201d <\/span>in the same way the magician\u2019s attractive assistant distracts us from seeing what is really going on. <\/span> <\/span>In the West we tend to call her \u201cMother Nature\u201d and she can be so enchanting that we miss the fact that the soothing sound of the ocean waves are also responsible for drowning many people! <\/span>We all marvel at a beautiful sunset but few stop to realize that if big enough, the danger of massively exploding sun-spots could wipe out all life on earth! <\/span>We love the beauty of spring but forget that all of this is just Krishnas (Gods) inferior energy distracting us from the harsh realities of birth, old age, disease and death. <\/span><\/p>\n When that forget that this temporary world is not a proper home for the soul, we become entrapped in the God\u2019s correctional institute by his mystical potency in the form of this grand material illusion. <\/span>The beauty of a blossoming lotus captivates us in the same way we are captivated by the stage magician while he cuts his stunning assistant in half. <\/span>Only the foolish think what he has done is real, those who are intelligence know it is just a trick even if they don\u2019t know how it works. <\/span><\/p>\n In a similar way we can use our intelligence to understand the throwing potency of God\u2019s external illusionary energy in the form of this material world. <\/span>The Vedas unequivocally declare that the soul has its own spiritual form, is eternal, happy and full of knowledge. (Sat, Cit, Ananda, Vigraha) <\/span>Yet every day the news reminds us that we are currently stationed in a place that is temporary and filled with a lot of fear, suffering and ignorance. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span>\u201cFear arises when a living entity misidentifies himself as the material body because of absorption in the external, illusory energy of the Lord. When the living entity thus turns away from the Supreme Lord, he also forgets his own constitutional position as a servant of the Lord. This bewildering, fearful condition is effected by the potency for illusion, called maya. Therefore, an intelligent person should engage unflinchingly in the unalloyed devotional service of the Lord, under the guidance of a bona fide spiritual master, whom he should accept as his worshipable deity and as his very life and soul.\u201d <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>Srimad Bhagavat Purana; Canto 11 \u201cGeneral History,\u201d <\/span>Chapter 2, \u201cMaharaja Nimi Meets the Nine Yogendras,\u201d <\/span>Text 37. <\/span>LINK:<\/span><\/b> http:\/\/www.vedabase.com\/en\/sb\/ The blossoming lotus we experience in this world is very temporary and in the process of dying regardless of how wonderful it may appear at the early stage of that cycle. <\/span> <\/span>The harsh fact is that no matter how wonderful anything is in this world may appear\u2026it is temporary, and therefor incongruent with the eternal nature of the blissful soul. <\/span>The lotus blossom in the spiritual world is not only gorgeously captivating; it is eternally beautiful. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Those who are have become enamored by the activities in this temporary world will tend to only see a bunch of strange bald headed weird-O\u2019s when they meet devotees. <\/span>Enamored by their own extremely limited intelligence they don\u2019t inquire about what the devotees are doing or why. <\/span> <\/span>Few stop to even consider how handicapped they are to understand anything properly on their own because of their conditioning, their bias prejudices, distractive habits, and proud nature <\/span>So no matter how long they try, or how often they are given an opportunity to inquire nicely about the meaning of the Hare Krishna mantra, few ever take the opportunity to do so. <\/span>That\u2019s why the message of Godhead remains an open secret to the majority of the population despite how much it has been broadcast for approximately the last 1,546,000,000,000,000 years! (Calculation based on the last time Lord Brahman exhaled and our universe came into existence om this occasion!)<\/p>\n \u201cOtherwise, a person who acts whimsically falls down due to false prestige<\/b>. Thus he becomes involved in the laws of nature, which are composed of the three qualities [goodness, passion and ignorance]. In this way a living entity becomes devoid of his real intelligence and becomes perpetually lost in the cycle of birth and death.
