\nDear well wishers, God-brothers, God-sisters, and friends,
\n\u00a0
\nPlease accept my most humble obeisances. \u00a0All glories to Srila Prabhupada. \u00a0All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga.
\n\u00a0
\nAs we all know, Janmastami is a wonderful festival in which we celebrate the descent of Lord Krishna into this world.\u00a0 Lord Krishna performs His lilas, and mercifully blesses all of us with his causeless mercy.
\n\u00a0
\nOn such a joyous occasion, I am reluctant to convey, with a heavy heart, the news that our dear God-brother, H.G. Sankirtan Prabhu has left the world.\u00a0Digesting this news, on such an auspicious occasion, has been the toughest.
\n\u00a0
\nToday is Lord Krishna\u2019s appearance day and by His will, it is also Sankirtan Prabhu\u2019s disappearance day.
\n\u00a0
\nSankirtan Prabhu left his body in Switzerland, at his sister\u2019s house who too is a devotee, with all auspiciousness around him.\u00a0 As it was a regular practice for him, while departing too he was listening to a lecture of Srila Prabhupada.\u00a0His sister will be sending some pictures and information too on this subject.
\n\u00a0
\nJust a couple of days ago, HH Lokanath Swami Mahraj ( my Gurumahraj) and I communicated with him, and Sankirtan Prabhu was saying that there was some hope, and he would try eating again.\u00a0 He tried to stay on, however, it was Lord Krishna\u2019s will that Sankirtan Prabhu left us.
\n\u00a0
\nYesterday, I was fortunate to receive a phone call from Gurumaharaja, who broke the news to me.\u00a0 As soon as I heard Gurumaharaja\u2019s voice, I knew what he was going to say.\u00a0 His voice was heavy with emotion. Gurumaharaja shared with me that he had received the news around\u00a01:30 pm, India time.\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nAs our conversation progressed, Gurumaharaja shared the following thoughts with me:
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cI was reading Srimad Bhagavatam, 1st\u00a0Canto this morning, about the departure of Grandfather Bishma.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I was absorbed with.\u00a0 He was with Lord Krishna at the time of his departure.\u00a0 He was offering his prayers to the Lord, and his heart was full of the remembrance of the Lord.\u00a0 I was thinking to somehow share this with Sankirtan Prabhu.\u00a0 I wanted to read it over the phone to him, or somehow get him to hear it.\u00a0 As he was departing there, I was reading this here.\u00a0 And remembering him.\u201d
\n\u00a0
\nMaharaja also shared:
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cThis morning I was giving class in Delhi temple, and I was remembering Sankirtan Prabhu.\u00a0 I was speaking about how the Lord takes birth, in order to kill our death.\u00a0 mrityur mrityum namamy aham.\u00a0 The Lord is the death of death personified.\u201d
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cI was thinking this might happen.\u00a0 With these auspicious days coming up; Janmastami, Srila Prabhupada\u2019s Appearance Day, and Radhastami, I was thinking that Sankirtan Prabhu might leave.\u201d
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cWe offered Sankirtan Prabhu at Lord Krishna\u2019s lotus feet and His appearance day.\u00a0 This is my offering.\u00a0 I offered Sankirtan Prabhu to the Lord.\u00a0 May he continue to serve His lotus feet eternally.\u201d
\n\u00a0
\nI shared with Gurumaharaja that I met someone today whose sister had given birth this morning.\u00a0 Gurumaharaja mentioned that this is happening; birth is happening, and death is happening.
\n\u00a0
\nSankirtan Prabhu, as a sannyasa candidate was approved by the GBC to take sannyasa.\u00a0 Gurumaharaja was planning to give sannyasa to Sankirtan Prabhu in Kartik in Sri Vrndavana Dhama.\u00a0 Gurumaharaja remarked that Sankirtan Prabhu has renounced everything, including his body.\u00a0 He did not undergo the formality of taking sannyasa, yet, his consciousness and actions are that of a sannyasi.
\n\u00a0
\nIn conclusion, Gurumaharaja sends his Janmastami greetings to all.
\n\u00a0
\nFrom my humble perspective, the situation reminds me of how precious and rare devotees are, and I am grateful for the association I received from Sankirtan Prabhu.\u00a0 We are all blessed to have such exalted souls on the planet with us.
\n\u00a0
\nAll glories to Gurumaharaja.
\n\u00a0
\nAll glories to Srila Prabhupada.
\n\u00a0
