Because, \u201cBhakti-yoga that is performed for the satisfaction of the Supreme Lord Vasudeva brings about detachment from all things unrelated to Him and gives rise to pure knowledge that is free from any motive for liberation and directed exclusively towards the attainment of Him\u201d Srimad Bhagavatam, 1.2.7)<br \/>\nB) ABHIDHEYA &#038; cow protection:<br \/>\n(I) Gomata &#8211; a partner in Vaidhi-sadhana-bhakti:<br \/>\n(a) 10th principle of Vaidhi-sadhana-bhakti (Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu,1.2.110_:<br \/>\nas\u0323vattha tulasi dhatri go bhumis sura vais\u0323n\u0323avah\u0323<br \/>\npujitah\u0323 pran\u0323atah\u0323 dhyatah\u0323 ks\u0323apayanti nr\u0323n\u0323am agham<br \/>\nIn the Skanda Puran\u0323a it is directed that a devotee should offer water to the tulasi plant and Amalaka trees. He should offer respect to the cows and to the brahman\u0323as and should serve the Vais\u0323n\u0323avas by offering them respectful obeisances and meditating upon them. All of these processes will help the devotee to diminish the reactions to his past sinful activities.<br \/>\n(b) Srimad Bhagavatam, Go-seva:<br \/>\nuktam bhagavatam nityam kr\u0323tam ca hari cintanam<br \/>\ntulasi pos\u0323an\u0323am caiva dhenunam sevanam samam<br \/>\nReciting Srimad Bhagavatam daily, remembering Lord Hari constantly, nourishing the tulasi plant, protecting and caring for the cows, are all equally beneficial (because these acts are pleasing to Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a) (Bhagavata mahatmya, verse 40).<br \/>\n\u00a9 Daivi-sampat qualitites imbibed due to association of mother cow<br \/>\ndhairyam<br \/>\n dhr\u0323tisca santisca pus\u0323t\u0323irvr\u0323ddhih\u0323 tathaiva ca<br \/>\nsmrtirmedha tatha lajja vapuh\u0323 kirtistathaiva ca<br \/>\nvidya santirmatiscaiva santatih\u0323 parama tatha<br \/>\nyatra gavastatra laks\u0323mih\u0323 sankhyadharmasca sasvatah\u0323<br \/>\n(Varaha Puran\u0323a, 206.34-35)<br \/>\nBy associating with the cows, by serving the cows and by consuming milk and milk products, it is said that one will be endowed with fearlessness, tolerance, peacefulness, strength, sharp memory, intelligence, shyness to act irreligiously, humility, health, fame, knowledge and progeny. Wherever there are cows, there is all prosperity and eternal spiritual knowledge.<br \/>\n(d) Dasyam (of sadhana bhakti) and cow protection:<br \/>\nkarma svabhavikam bhadram (Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu, 1.2.185)<br \/>\nTo follow svabhava-karma (Daiva varn\u0323asrama dharma) for pleasure of Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a. Varn\u0323a-samanya-dharma (common dharma for all is \u2018cow protection\u2019 and &#8216;growing food\u2019 (meaning, not for trade but for self-sufficiency. Trade is exclusive domain of mercantile class)<br \/>\nkr\u0323s\u0323istu sarva varn\u0323anam<br \/>\n samanyo dharma ucyate<br \/>\nkr\u0323s\u0323rbhr\u0323tih\u0323 pasupalyam sarves\u0323am<br \/>\n na nis\u0323idhyate<br \/>\nAgriculture and cow protection are common duty for all the varNAs and they are not prohibited for anyone (Vr\u0323ddha Harita Smr\u0323ti)<br \/>\n(II) Gomata &#8211; a partner in Raganuga sadhana bhakti<br \/>\n tat-prapty-utkan\u0307t\u0323ayam ekadas\u0323i-janmas\u0323t\u0323i-karttika-vrata-bhoga-tyagadini tapo-rupan\u0323i tathasvattha-tulasy-adi-sammananadini tad-bhavanukulany eva<br \/>\nThe observance of Ekadasi, Janmas\u0323t\u0323ami, Kartikka vrata as well as the renunciation of sense pleasures and other austerities, offering respect to tulasi, the banyan tree, cows etc.; all of these activities executed with eagerness for attaining one\u2019s most cherishable relationship with the Desired Object, because they are helpful and favourably disposed towards the attainment of this bhava are called bhavanukula sadhana (Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu Bindu, Srila Visvanatha Cakravarthi T\u0323hakura)<br \/>\nA devotee may be desiring to associate with the Personality of Godhead as His cowherd friend. He will want to serve the Lord by assisting Him in controlling the cows in the pasturing ground. This may appear to be a desire to enjoy the company of the Lord, but actually it is spontaneous love, serving Him by assisting in managing the transcendental cows (Srila Prabhupada, Nectar of Devotion, Chapter 15)<br \/>\n(III) Gomata &#8211; a partner in Bhava-bhakti<br \/>\nImpetus (Uddipana) &#8211; \u201cUddipana-vibhava to bhava bhakti<br \/>\nye kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323as smarayanti te uddipana vibhava<br \/>\nRefers to all those things which stimulate remembrance of Sri Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a such as His dress and ornaments, the spring season, the bank of the Yamuna, forest groves, cows, peacocks, and so on.\u201d (Srila Visvanatha Cakravarthi T\u0323hakura, Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu Bindu)<br \/>\nC) PRAYOJANA &#038; cow protection:<br \/>\n(IV) Gomata &#8211; a partner in Prema-bhakti<br \/>\nSanta-rasa and cows:<br \/>\n(a) Impetus for santa-rasa and cows:<br \/>\nparvata-saila-kananadi-vasi-jana-san<br \/>\nga-siddha-ksetradayah\u0323 uddipana-vibhavah\u0323<br \/>\nTo live in pure and natural atmosphere devoid of crowded congestion of cities. Such places are known as vivikta-desa full of trees and natural surroundings (just like forests of Vrindavan).<br \/>\n(Of with course cows in such peaceful living. After all, that is how great rs\u0323is lived in the past).<br \/>\nCows gave pleasure to Sri Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a in Santa-rasa (Hence worthy of our service):<br \/>\nThe land, the grass, the trees, the plants, fruits, or the cows in the transcendental world are supposed to be situated in the santa-rasa. As spiritual beings, they are all conscious of Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a, but they prefer to appreciate Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a\u2019s greatness remaining as they are (Srila Prabhupada, Letter to Rupanuga, 12 Mar, 1968).<br \/>\n(b) Impetus for Dasya-rasa and cows:<br \/>\nReverential affection to see Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a as a cowherd boy:<br \/>\n\u201cWhen will that glorious day in my life come when it will be possible for me to go to the bank of the Yamuna and see Lord Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a playing there as a cowherd boy?\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a9 Impetus (Vibhava) and Anubhava in Sakhya-rasa and cows:<br \/>\n\u201c Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a going into the forest to tend the cows\u201d is an impetus for saakhya-rasa.<br \/>\nvrndaran\u0323ye samastat surabhin\u0323i surabhivr\u0323ndaraks\u0323avihari (Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu, 3.3.66)<br \/>\nAnubhava symptom in sakhya-rasa and cows:<br \/>\npuras tairyatrikam<br \/>\n tasya gavam\u0307 sambhalanakriyah\u0323<br \/>\n\u201cHelping Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a herd His cows\u201d (Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu, 3.3.95)<br \/>\n(d) Vatsalya-rasa and cows<br \/>\nAccording to Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti T\u0323hakura the cows loved Lord Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a in vatsalya-rasa, or the love of parents for a child, because the cows were always supplying milk to Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a.<br \/>\nImpetus for vatsalya-rasa and cows\/calves:<br \/>\nvatsaraks\u0323a vrajarbhyen\u0323a (Bhakti Rasamr\u0323ta Sindhu, 3.4.32)<br \/>\nKr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a protecting and herding calves in the forests, is an impetus for Vatsalya-rasa.<br \/>\n(e)  Impetus for Madhurya rasa and cows:<br \/>\nThe impetuses of conjugal love are Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a and His very dear consorts, such as Radharan\u0323i and Her immediate associates (who are all gopis, or cowherd women).<br \/>\n\u201cDear Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a, what woman in all the three worlds wouldn\u2019t deviate from religious behavior when bewildered by the sweet, drawn-out melody of Your flute? Your beauty makes all three worlds auspicious. Indeed, even the cows, birds, trees and deer manifest the ecstatic symptom of bodily hair standing on end when they see Your beautiful form.\u201d (Srimad Bhagavatam, 10.29.40)<br \/>\n\u201cWhen one gopi perfectly imitated how Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a would call the cows who had wandered far away, how He would play His flute and how He would engage in various sports, the others congratulated her with exclamations of \u201cWell done! Well done!\u201d (Srimad Bhagavatam, 10.30.18)<br \/>\n\u201cYour lotus feet destroy the past sins of all embodied souls who surrender to them. Those feet follow after the cows in the pastures and are the eternal abode of the goddess of fortune. Since You once put those feet on the hoods of the great serpent Kaliya, please place them upon our breasts and tear away the lust in our hearts\u201d. (Srimad Bhagavatam, 10.31.7)<br \/>\n\u201cDear master, dear lover, when You leave the cowherd village to herd the cows, our minds are disturbed with the thought that Your feet, more beautiful than a lotus, will be pricked by the spiked husks of grain and the rough grass and plants\u201d (Srimad Bhagavatam, 10.31.11)<br \/>\nD) Tending cows &#8211; natural occupation of Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a in Goloka Vr\u0323ndavana<br \/>\ncintaman\u0323i-prakara-sadmas\u0323u kalpavr\u0323ks\u0323a-<br \/>\nlaks\u0323avr\u0323tes\u0323u surabhir abhipalayantam<br \/>\nlaks\u0323mi-sahasra-s\u0323ata-sambhrama-sevyamanam<br \/>\ngovindam adi-purus\u0323am tam aham bhajami<br \/>\n\u201cLord Kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a is situated in a spiritual abode made of transcendental gems. In that abode he is surrounded by millions of desire fulfilling trees (kalpa-vr\u0323ks\u0323a), and he takes pleasure in tending the divine cows. He is always being served with great reverence and affection by hundreds of thousands of devotees.
