Taking a ball of fresh butter to lure Him over, a<br \/>\ngop&#299; called Him: &#8220;O Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava . . .&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(9)<br \/>\nvicitra-var&#7751;&#257;bhara&#7751;&#257;bhir&#257;me-<br \/>\n-bhidhehi vaktr&#257;mbuja-r&#257;ja&#7717;a&#7745;se<br \/>\nsad&#257; mad&#299;ye rasane &#8216;gra-ra&#7751;ge<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>O my tongue, since my mouth has become like a lotus by dint of the presence<br \/>\nthere of these eloquent, ornamental, delightful syllables, you are like the<br \/>\nswan that plays there. As your foremost pleasure, always articulate the<br \/>\nnames, &#8220;Govinda,&#8221; &#8220;D&#257;modara,&#8221; and &#8220;M&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(10)<br \/>\na&#7749;k&#257;dhir&#363;&#7693;ha&#7745; &#347;i&#347;u-gopa-g&#363;&#7693;ha&#7745;<br \/>\nstana&#7745; dhayanta&#7745; kamalaika-k&#257;ntam<br \/>\nsambodhay&#257;m &#257;sa mud&#257; ya&#347;od&#257;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>The one and only Lord of Lak&#7779;m&#299;dev&#299;, as an inconspicuous little cowherd<br \/>\nbaby, was seated in the lap of mother Ya&#347;od&#257;, drinking her breast-milk.<br \/>\nMerged in bliss, she addressed Him as &#8220;Govinda,&#8221; &#8220;D&#257;modara,&#8221; and &#8220;M&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(11)<br \/>\nkr&#299;&#7693;antam antar-vrajam &#257;tmana&#7745; sva&#7745;<br \/>\nsama&#7745; vayasyai&#7717; pa&#347;u-p&#257;la-b&#257;lai&#7717;<br \/>\nprem&#7751;&#257; ya&#347;od&#257; prajuh&#257;va k&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>In Vraja-dh&#257;ma, K&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a was playing with His playmates, the boys of His age<br \/>\nwho protected the animals. With great love, mother Ya&#347;od&#257; called out to her<br \/>\nown son, &#8220;O Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(12)<br \/>\nya&#347;oday&#257; g&#257;&#7693;ham ul&#363;khalena<br \/>\ngo-ka&#7751;&#7789;ha-p&#257;&#347;ena nibadhyamanam<br \/>\nruroda manda&#7745; navan&#299;ta-bhoj&#299;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>Being firmly tied up to the grinding mortar with a cow&#8217;s rope by mother<br \/>\nYa&#347;od&#257;, the plunderer of butter softly whimpered. &#8220;Govinda, D&#257;modara,<br \/>\nM&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(13)<br \/>\nnij&#257;&#7749;ga&#7751;e ka&#7749;ka&#7751;a-keli-lola&#7745;<br \/>\ngop&#299; g&#7771;h&#299;tv&#257; navan&#299;ta-golam<br \/>\n&#257;mardayat p&#257;&#7751;i-talena netre<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>In His own courtyard, K&#7771;s&#7751;a was carelessly playing with a bracelet. So the<br \/>\ngop&#299; took a ball of butter to Him, and shutting His eyes with her palm, she<br \/>\ndistracted Him, &#8220;O Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava . . .(Guess what I have for<br \/>\nyou!)&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(14)<br \/>\ng&#7771;he g&#7771;he gopa-vadh&#363;-kadamb&#257;&#7717;<br \/>\nsarve militv&#257; samav&#257;ya-yoge<br \/>\npu&#7751;y&#257;ni n&#257;m&#257;ni pa&#7789;hanti nitya&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>In house after house, groups of cowherd ladies gather on various occasions,<br \/>\nand together they always chant the transcendental names of K&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a&#8211;&#8220;Govinda,<br \/>\nD&#257;modara, and M&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(15)<br \/>\nmand&#257;ra-m&#363;le vadan&#257;bhir&#257;ma&#7745;<br \/>\nbimb&#257;dhare p&#363;rita-ve&#7751;u-n&#257;dam<br \/>\ngo-gopa-gop&#299;-jana-madhya-sa&#7745;stha&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>His face is pleasing, and the flute at His lips is filled with Divine sound.<br \/>\nAmidst the cows, gopas, and gop&#299;s, He stands at the base of a coral tree.<br \/>\nGovinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava!<\/p>\n<p>(16)<br \/>\nutth&#257;ya gopyo &#8216;para-r&#257;tra-bhoge<br \/>\nsm&#7771;tv&#257; ya&#347;od&#257;-suta-b&#257;la-kelim<br \/>\ng&#257;yanti proccair dadhi-manthayantyo<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>Having risen early in the Brahma-muh&#363;rta, and remembering the childish<br \/>\nactivities of the Son of mother Ya&#347;od&#257;, the gop&#299;s loudly sing while churning<br \/>\nbutter&#8211;&#8220;Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(17)<br \/>\njagdho &#8216;tha datto navan&#299;ta-pi&#7751;&#7693;o<br \/>\ng&#7771;he ya&#347;od&#257; vicikitsayant&#299;<br \/>\nuv&#257;ca satya&#7745; vada he mur&#257;re<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>Having churned and then set aside a fresh lump of butter in the house,<br \/>\nmother Ya&#347;od&#257; was now suspicious&#8211;it had been eaten. She said, &#8220;Hey&#8211;Mur&#257;ri!<br \/>\nGovinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava, now tell me the truth . . .&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(18)<br \/>\nabhyarcya geha&#7745; yuvati&#7717; prav&#7771;ddha-<br \/>\n-prema-prav&#257;h&#257; dadhi nirmamantha<br \/>\ng&#257;yanti gopyo &#8216;tha sakh&#299;-samet&#257;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>Having finished worship at home, a young gop&#299;, (like) a strong current of<br \/>\nlove for K&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a, churned the butter, and then joins together with all the<br \/>\ngop&#299;s and their friends and they sing, &#8220;Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(19)<br \/>\nkvacit prabh&#257;te dadhi-p&#363;r&#7751;a-p&#257;tre<br \/>\nnik&#7779;ipya mantha&#7745; yuvat&#299; mukundam<br \/>\n&#257;lokya g&#257;na&#7745; vividha&#7745; karoti<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>One time, early in the morning, just as a girl had put aside her churn in a<br \/>\npot full of butter&#8211;she saw Mukunda. She then began to sing songs in various<br \/>\nways, about Govinda, D&#257;modara, and M&#257;dhava.<\/p>\n<p>(20)<br \/>\nkr&#299;&#7693;&#257;para&#7745; bhojana-majjan&#257;rtha&#7745;<br \/>\nhitai&#7779;i&#7751;&#299; str&#299; tanuja&#7745; ya&#347;od&#257;<br \/>\n&#257;j&#363;havat prema-pari-plut&#257;k&#7779;&#299;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>(Without having even bathed or eaten,) K&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a was absorbed in play.<br \/>\nOverwhelmed with affection, mother Ya&#347;od&#257;, who thought only of her son&#8217;s<br \/>\nwelfare, called out, &#8220;Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava! (Come, take your bath and<br \/>\neat something.)&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(21)<br \/>\nsukha&#7745; &#347;ay&#257;na&#7745; nilaye ca vi&#7779;&#7751;u&#7745;<br \/>\ndevar&#7779;i-mukhy&#257; munaya&#7717; prapann&#257;&#7717;<br \/>\nten&#257;cyute tanmayat&#257;&#7745; vrajanti<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>Deva&#7771;&#7779;i N&#257;rada and other Munis are always surrendered to Lord Vi&#7779;&#7751;u, who<br \/>\nrests upon His couch. They always chant the names of &#8220;Govinda,&#8221; &#8220;D&#257;modara,&#8221;<br \/>\nand &#8220;M&#257;dhava,&#8221; and thus they attain spiritual forms similar to His.<\/p>\n<p>(22)<br \/>\nvih&#257;ya nidr&#257;m aru&#7751;odaye ca<br \/>\nvidh&#257;ya k&#7771;ty&#257;ni ca vipramukhy&#257;&#7717;<br \/>\nved&#257;vas&#257;ne prapa&#7789;hanti nitya&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>After giving up sleep at dawn, having completed their ritualistic duties,<br \/>\nand at the end of their Vedic chanting, the best of the learned br&#257;hma&#7751;as<br \/>\nalways loudly chant, &#8220;Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(23)<br \/>\nv&#7771;nd&#257;vane gopa-ga&#7751;&#257;&#347; ca gopyo<br \/>\nvilokya govinda-viyoga-khinnam<br \/>\nr&#257;dh&#257;&#7745; jagu&#7717; s&#257;&#347;ru-vilocan&#257;bhy&#257;&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>In V&#7771;nd&#257;vana, seeing &#346;r&#299;mat&#299; R&#257;dh&#257;r&#257;&#7751;&#299; overwhelmed with separation from<br \/>\nGovinda, groups of gopas and gop&#299;s sang, with tears in their lotus eyes,<br \/>\n&#8220;Govinda! D&#257;modara! O M&#257;dhava!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(24)<br \/>\nprabh&#257;ta-sa\u00f1c&#257;ra-gat&#257; nu g&#257;vas<br \/>\ntad-rak&#7779;a&#7751;&#257;rtha&#7745; tanaya&#7745; ya&#347;od&#257;<br \/>\npr&#257;bodhayat p&#257;&#7751;i-talena manda&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>The cows having already gone out to graze early in the morning, mother<br \/>\nYa&#347;od&#257; gently roused her sleeping son with the palm of her hand, softly<br \/>\nsaying, &#8220;Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(25)<br \/>\nprav&#257;la-&#347;obh&#257; iva d&#299;rgha-ke&#347;&#257;<br \/>\nv&#257;t&#257;mbu-par&#7751;&#257;&#347;ana-p&#363;ta-deh&#257;&#7717;<br \/>\nm&#363;le tar&#363;&#7751;&#257;&#7745; munaya&#7717; pa&#7789;hanti<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>With long, matted hair the color of coral, and bodies purified by eating<br \/>\nonly leaves, water, and air, the sages sit beneath the trees and chant,<br \/>\n&#8220;Govinda,&#8221; &#8220;D&#257;modara,&#8221; and &#8220;M&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(26)<br \/>\neva&#7745; bruv&#257;&#7751;&#257; virah&#257;tur&#257; bh&#7771;&#347;&#257;&#7745;<br \/>\nvraja-striya&#7717; k&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a-vi&#7779;ikta-m&#257;nas&#257;&#7717;<br \/>\nvis&#7771;jya lajj&#257;&#7745; rurudu&#7717; sma su-svara&#7745;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After speaking these words, the ladies of Vraja, who were so attached to<br \/>\nK&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a, felt extremely agitated by their imminent separation from Him. They<br \/>\nforgot all worldly shame and loudly cried out,&#8217;O Govinda! O D&#257;modara! O<br \/>\nM&#257;dhava!'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(27)<br \/>\ngop&#299; kad&#257;cin ma&#7751;i-pi\u00f1jara-stha&#7745;<br \/>\n&#347;uka&#7745; vaco v&#257;cayitu&#7745; prav&#7771;tt&#257;<br \/>\n&#257;nanda-kanda vraja-candra k&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes a gop&#299; is engaged in teaching a parrot within a jewelled cage to<br \/>\nrecite names like: &#8220;&#256;nanda-kanda&#8221; (source of bliss), &#8220;Vraja-candra&#8221; (moon of<br \/>\nVraja), &#8220;K&#7771;&#7779;&#7751;a,&#8221; &#8220;Govinda,&#8221; &#8220;D&#257;modara,&#8221; and &#8220;M&#257;dhava.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(28)<br \/>\ngo-vatsa-b&#257;lai&#7717; &#347;i&#347;u-k&#257;ka-pak&#7779;a&#7745;<br \/>\nbadhnantam ambhoja-dal&#257;yat&#257;k&#7779;am<br \/>\nuv&#257;ca m&#257;t&#257; cibuka&#7745; g&#7771;h&#299;tv&#257;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>The lotus-eyed Lord was tying the &#347;ikh&#257; of a cowherd boy to the tail of a<br \/>\ncalf when His mother caught Him, lifted up His chin, and said, &#8220;Govinda!<br \/>\nD&#257;modara! They addressed the unlimited,<br \/>\nprimeval Personality of Godhead, &#8220;Hey, Govinda, D&#257;modara, M&#257;dhava!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(30)<br \/>\njal&#257;&#347;aye k&#257;liya-mardan&#257;ya<br \/>\nyad&#257; kadamb&#257;d apatan mur&#257;re<br \/>\ngop&#257;&#7749;gan&#257;&#347; cakru&#347;ur etya gop&#257;<br \/>\ngovinda d&#257;modara m&#257;dhaveti<\/p>\n<p>When Lord Mur&#257;ri jumped from the Kadamba branch into the water to chastise<br \/>\nthe K&#257;liya serpent, all the gop&#299;s and cowherd boys went there and cried out,<br \/>\n&#8220;Oh! Govinda! D&#257;modara! Jaya D&#257;modara!
