Currently there is a tremendous argument raging. This argument is over the location of the earth planet.<\/p>\n
The favor of the argument has gained pitch with various arguments drawn entirely from Youtube videos making claims of a Flat Earth Conspiracy and NASA fabrications.<\/p>\n
Just today one young devotee declared that a NASA document has proved Flat Earth. The irony was not lost on me. How can we say on one hand NASA cannot be trusted and on the other hand use NASA to prove anything?<\/p>\n
Very quickly I will address some logical problems for a flat earth.
\n1) The northern stars circle the North Pole star. They travel counter clockwise.
\nThe southern pole stars circle in an area called the Southern Cross. they travel clockwise.<\/p>\n
If we were on a flat planet ( or area ) we logically would have northern stars but no southern stars. The land of Jambudvipa itself would block our sight of anything in the southern sky.<\/p>\n
2) Eclipses present the shadow of a globe passing across sun and moon. In the Commentaries of the Acharyas to 5th Canto published by G Danavir Gosvami we find that beginning in chapter 9 the Acharyas confirm Rahu is eclipse. ( whether it is ALSO a planet is discussed in chapter 9 text 1 )<\/p>\n
Fortunately we are not dependent on logic only. Sukadeva Gosvami in chapter 6 gives us a greatest distance and a middle distance from earth planet to sun. ( A third can be worked out mathematically )<\/p>\n
These distances give us declination also. Since sun has north and south movements called ayanas earth planet must be situated in the center of an x where the highest movement of the sun reaches and the lowest movement of the sun reaches.<\/p>\n
An interesting movie has recently been released called The Principle which notes this.<\/p>\n
Again this change of southern and northern movement is seen from earth at sunrise during the year. Logic then is not challenged.<\/p>\n
In my videos on Youtube entitled Distances to the Planets ( No. 2 deals with this ) I use Sukadeva Gosvami’s verses to show how the movement of the sun can be diagrammed and we can establish the necessary placement of earth which allows for us to view the southern stars.<\/p>\n
