BE SPREAD EVERYWHERE.

In New Vrndavana on September 5th 1972, Srila Prabhupada was lecturing on Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.6. “One who is engaged in devotional service of the Lord in love and devotion. What is the symptom of love? The symptom, the prime symptom, most important symptom of love is that the devotee wants to see that his Lord’s name, fame, etc. become widespread. He wants to see that “My Lord’s name be known everywhere.” This is love. If I love somebody, I want to see that his glories are spread all over the world. And Krsna also says in the Bhagavad-gita, na ca tasmat manusyesu kascit me priya-krttamah, anyone who preaches His glory, nobody is dearer to Him than that person..”

We hear a lot about the need to be loved. Interestingly enough there are few references to the need for this but quote after quote stating our need is to love. The nature of the soul is to love. What better and easier way to express and develop this than to give the holy names to others. “In every town and village my holy names shall be heard and chanted”.
golokera prema-dhana hari-näma-sankirtana rati nä janmila kene täya

“My dear Lord, You have given us the medicine of hari-näma-sankirtana, the chanting of Hare Krsna. Unfortunately, I have no attraction for Your holy names.”

iti sodasakam nämnäm kali-kalmasa-näsanam nätah parataropäyah sarva-vedesu drsyate

“Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Räma, Hare Räma, Räma Räma, Hare Hare. These sixteen names composed of thirty-two syllables are the only means of counteracting the evil effects of the Kali-yuga. After searching through all the Vedic literature, one cannot find a method of religion for this age so sublime as the chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra” (Kali-santarana Upanisad).

World Holy Name Day is fast approaching – September the 17th. –Just 2 months away. It’s a Monday so it may not be practical for most devotees who are working etc. that’s okay – we can celebrate the day on the 15th or 16th or someday close to the actual date. The 17th is the western calendar date for Prabhupada’s arrival in Boston.

We have received many letters of interest in the event. From Balabhadra prabhu in Atlanta: “I am so excited about this program for the World Holy Name Day and I have already started promoting it to some devotees. I would like to help in the national promotion as much as possible. ……I am very inspired by the idea of creating a World Holy Name Day, I think this is long overdue. The need in the world today is for the unlimited blessings of the Lord’s holy names. I would very much like to participate in some way in organizing this and other events……. I coordinate a monthly kirtan program at a local Indian mall as well as a monthly harinam in downtown Atlanta and I am just getting ready to start another monthly harinam program at a park near the temple. This harinam will be promoted as a monthly “Community Harinam”.

I think that we can suggest to temples to:

*Hold a 24 hour kirtans
*Dedicate a few Sunday lectures leading up to the event, to discuss the importance of Harinam Sankirtan
*Send out press releases stating that the purpose of the World Holy NameDay is to purify the atmosphere and help to bring peace to society.
*Harinam in downtown areas as well as Harinam at major parks with prasadam”

From Bhakta Robert in Exeter UK: “This year on Monday, 17th September, ISKCON will stage the first ever World Holy Name Day, marking the date of the arrival of Srila Prabhupada to the USA on board the Jaladuta. We’ll be holding special events at a Bournemouth church in the morning and at our Exeter Centre in the evening on Sunday 16th, along with a series of harinams on 17th itself.

We really want to make this a special occasion. Many devotees will be considering how to put their energies into making this as big a day as possible both within our community and in the eyes of the wider public. We hope to persuade some of the devotee communities outside of London to arrange a sequence of harinam processions from their home town along a route into the capital, converging there in the evening time for an all-night celebration. What an amazing day that would be!”

HARINAMA PRABHU KI JAYA WORLD HOLY NAME DAY KI JAYA

Your servant, Janananda Gosvami (janananda.gosvami@pamho.net)

By Janananda Gosvami

World Holy Name Day is fast approaching – September the 17th. –Just 2 months away.
