In 2001 I received one of the greatest opportunities in my life: the chance to reside in Govardhana and study the Bhagavad Gita with His Grace Gopiparanadhana Prabhu. Now up until that point I had read the Bhagavad Gita several times and had even memorized quite a few of its slokas, but after going through the text with this exalted and most humble Vaishnava, I discovered that my studies had been at best rather perfunctory. He opened up my eyes to the deep truths that were readily present in the pages of this wonderful text if read with the proper mood and understanding. Since that time, my appreciation and comprehension of this most beautiful book has never been the same.<\/p>\n
That was many years ago and for so long I have desired to immerse myself in that study once again. Unfortunately, though, we no longer have the physical assocation of His Grace Gopiparanadhana Prabhu. However, we still have the years of instruction that he gave us and I would like the opportunity to give other devotees the wonderful gift that he bestowed upon me. Therefore, I am going to be holding a one month gurukula in order to conduct classes in the same way that Guruji did in his humble home in Govardhana. Every day we will slowly and methodically go through the Bhagavad Gita, studying the Sanskrit and the commentaries of the acharyas, and by the end of the month we will not only have memorized a complete chapter of Krishna’s instructions, but we will also understand them at a much deeper level. In addition, every day we will chant with each other, honor prasada with each other, sing the songs of Vaishnava acharyas with each other, and thus also build loving Vaishnava relationships that will last us a lifetime. <\/p>\n
So if this is something you would like to do, please contact me. No money is required on your part, only a commitment to come and stay one month with us in the beautiful city of Detroit and a letter of recommendation from a close friend or perhaps an authority. We read the Bhagavad Gita every day and try to live our lives by its precepts. Why not spend one good month of your life really trying to grasp the innermost part of its message? After all, if you are going to commit to something, you might as well go all the way with it. <\/p>\n
