Long long ago appeared a Lord\u2019s devotee
\nFamous was he for his serving attitude and purity
\nMadhvendra Puri was his name
\nIn his dream Lord Gopal came<\/p>\n
\u201cI am suffocated in jungle beneath
\nPlease excavate so that I can breathe
\nTo relief from this heat, bring sandalwood from Malaya hill
\nAnd smear it all over my body\u201d-with him Lord shared his will<\/p>\n
When Madhvendra got up from sleep
\nHis desire to please the Lord was very deep
\n Headed towards Puri when he reached Gopinath temple
\nTwelve pots of kheer, in front of Deity Pujari did assemble<\/p>\n
To taste the kheer was his little desire
\nFor the same his Gopal can admire
\nHe realized an offence he has been committing
\nBy trying to think of tasting the Lord\u2019s offering<\/p>\n
Thinking this way, from Gopinath temple, he left
\nHe chanted and chanted in a land bereft
\nAt night, in the pujari\u2019s dream the Lord appear
\nAsked him to steal the kheer for his devotee so dear<\/p>\n
The Lord instructed to take to Madhvendra Puri
\nIn all surprise and fear the Pujari did agree
\nHonoring by MadhvendraPuri the same kheer pot
\nWith tears in his eyes, he realized the mercy of His Lord<\/p>\n
He got up from his sleep the very next day
\nThe news of Kheer Chor Gopinath was all along the way
\nThe Pujari took him to Jagannath Puri\u2019s king
\n37kilos of sandalwood the king did bring<\/p>\n
By serving the devotee, the king got satisfied
\nIn this way, everyone associated got deeply purified
\nTaking leave Madhvendra Puri set about his place
\nIn a dream, he saw Lord Gopal\u2019s beautiful face<\/p>\n
Applying chandan to Gopinath or Me is same
\nIt is nothing but a difference of mere name
\nTo Gopinath MadhvendraPuri applied chandan
\nThis is how the Chandan Yatra was begun<\/p>\n
