Friends of Vrindavan has been implementing the waste management practices in Vrindavan from last one decade. The consistent efforts of this organization have brought a big change in Vrindavan, which encouraged the local government to improve its system and the other philanthropic organizations has followed the footsteps. Many international devotees and pilgrims have realized Vrindavan looks far cleaner than what it looked seven years back. One can easily compare Vrindavan with the adjoining cities of Mathura, Agra and Aligarh. In an interview several citizen have admitted that their medical bill has been reduced over last several years, due to the Clean Vrindavan initiative.<\/p>\n
The Clean Vrindavan Programme has covered all spheres of waste management in the town. Apart from the street cleaning and the management of the domestic wastes, the Bio Medical Waste Management has been one of the major programmes of the organization. The waste is collected from more than hundred hospitals and clinics of Vrindavan and Mathura. The hospital staffs are trained to segregate the waste at the source in different colored plastic bags. The waste is then collected in a van of the organization and is ultimately disposed in the common facility in Agra owned by its partner M\/s Datt Enterprises Ltd. This facility is one of the best facilities in the country. The proper segregation and disposal of hospital waste has minimized the health threats. It is no more dumped in the Yamuna bank, but is disposed safely after proper treatment.<\/p>\n
To enhance this programme more collection vans are needed as only half the job is done and there are many other areas in Vraj where this system has to be initiated. More cooperation and support is anticipated from the medical community of the region as well as the kind hearted donors for the scaling up of the programme.<\/p>\n
