{"id":50278,"date":"2017-08-26T14:11:11","date_gmt":"2017-08-26T12:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dandavats.tumblr.com\/post\/164631996266"},"modified":"2017-08-26T14:11:11","modified_gmt":"2017-08-26T12:11:11","slug":"kingston-uk-prepares-to-get-colorful-with-the-hare-krishna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=50278","title":{"rendered":"Kingston, UK, prepares to get colorful with the Hare Krishna&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-50277\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads6\/tumblr_ovakinsquV1sbj0vuo1_500.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tumblr_ovakinsquV1sbj0vuo1_500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tumblr_ovakinsquV1sbj0vuo1_500-251x187.jpg 251w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kingston, UK, prepares to get colorful with the Hare Krishna festival.<br \/>\nMembers of the Hare Krishna movement are teaming up to get the public in Kingston all spiritual for a different type of festival next month.<br \/>\nWell known all over the world for their shaven heads, bright saffron robes and their famous mantra the International Society for Krishna Consciousness are inviting residents to join in the Hare Krishna festivities, on September 7, at the Mayo Centre, Eden Street.A free day filled with meditative music, spiritual dance, a free vegetarian meal and an insight into the philosophy and culture associated with the movement.<\/p>\n<p>Giridhari Das, a Hare Krishna monk who heads up the UK festival team, said: \u201c\u201cProbably best known from the Glastonbury Music Festival or for singing in the streets of central London, as the Hare Krishna Festival team we tend to appear all over the place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether local carnivals, theatres or town halls we like to be with the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hare Krishna movement became popular in the 1960\u2019s when its message was brought to western countries by A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada \u2013 an Indian guru, aged 70, who left Vrindavan, India, and set sail for the United States in 1965 with just a few dollars in his pocket.<\/p>\n<p>The movement follows ancient teachings of devotional yoga with roots in the Vedic culture of India, dating back over 5,000 years.<\/p>\n<p>Within a year of the Indian\u2019s arrival he set up ISKCON and today the movement has more than 700 temples and centres worldwide, including 60 farm communities, 50 schools and 90 restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the movement celebrated the 50th anniversary since its inauguration in New York by Srila Prabhupada in 1966.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to The Beatles and in particular George Harrison\u2019s involvement, \u2018Hare Krishna\u2019 has become a household name.<\/p>\n<p>Narada Das, who looks after PR &#038; Communications at ISKCON Festivals, added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur philosophy is very rich and attractive to many people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a world that\u2019s becoming increasingly competitive, and has people believing they\u2019ll only be happy through material gain, we\u2019re showing a deeply positive alternative.<\/p>\n<p>The Krishna Consciousness message is for everyone &#8211;
